  • This study is tried to determine the probability rainfall-depth of Seoul, Daegu and Mokpo easily by using a regression line. The correlation between the probability rainfalldepth of each duration from 10-minute to 120-minute and return period is derived so as to become the linear least squares curve fit, and the analytical method that the probability rainfall-depth about the given duration is able to be gotten directory on it is studied. In this research, fair correlation among them is shown, and when the variables are transformed suitably, the application of this method to other points besides three cities are considered to be possible.

How Distinct are Technology-Based Start-Ups in India? Features, Policies and Evolving Ecosystems

  • Tech start-ups and their ecosystems are gaining increasing prominence globally and so are in India, due to their potential to contribute to employment generation, innovations, productivity, national income and exports. Against this backdrop, this article analyzes the key characteristics of tech start-ups relative to traditional start-ups and modern start-ups in India. Further, the salient features of tech start-up promotion policies initiated by the government of India and government of Karnataka as well as the current regional and sectoral distribution of start-ups is elucidated. Subsequently, the structure and components of entrepreneurial ecosystems currently under evolution in the metro cities of India are examined. Finally, the key factors contributing to the growth of different ecosystem components and its implications for the future growth of tech start-ups are outlined.

Simulation of Urban Expansion Causing Farmland Loss and Sprawl Phenomena with Cellular Automata Technology

  • A spatial simulation model for rural and urban sprawl phenomena was developed with GIS and cellular automata techniques. The model finds out built-up areas invading toward rural areas required for development of existing urban area. Probability of land use change for optimizing the development area was determined using a land suitability analysis method interfaced with GIS methods, based on several criteria in terms of geographic and accessibility factors such as slope of land and distance from city center. Weighting values of the criteria were quantified by an analytic hierarchy process method. For model applicability test, the parameters of criteria were calibrated based on the changes in time series land use data of the test city for 1986, 1996, and 2000, which were classified by remote sensing techniques. Simulated and observed areas in land use maps for city shape of 1996 showed good similarities with each other through a morphology verification method. The model enabled us to evaluate the spatial expansion phenomena of cities considering boundary conditions, and also to simulate land use planning for rural areas in urban fringe.

  • This research attempts to consider disasters and calamities in the process of urban planning and road design. It presents a model that copes with disaster response. This model is an integrated system that performs the collective evaluation of roads, shelters, storage reservoirs and evacuation route systems. Consequently, this research attempts to discuss major issues to apply this system to cities.

  • Recently, The world is faced with the very serious problems related to the increasing use of the conventional petroleum fuels. The air pollutions in big cities have been occurred by the exhaust emissions from automobiles. Many researchers have been attracted various oxygen-enriched for the measure of these problems. In this study, Oxygen-enriched air supplied to a diesel engine has significant benefits in reducing the particulate matter emission but detects in increasing the NOx. This study concluded that the oxygen-enriched and cooled-EGR might be a good measure to reduce smoke, particulate emission and NOx in diesel engine.

  • Aggravation of natural environment, improvements in income, internet diffusion, spread of five-day work a week, and population aging seem very different from each other. However they boil down to consumption. These culture patterns are changing into environment-friendly and productive housing culture. In other words, people might tend to have frequent contacts with not only environment-friendly housing in bustling cities but also woods that is environment friendly materials in their leisure time. In the period of people young and old alike are in favor of woodcrafts, this study was conducted for giving information to who speicalized in woodcrafts. Furthermore, the study shows that other countries also added grain and figure to woodcrafts for visually appealing.

  • This study examined the equivocalness of the standard legislation regarding the present situation of the sunshine-related law to reduce the trespass of the right of sunshine. In order to make more specific standard about that law, it was intended to suggest the distance ratio between apartment houses by the regional groups, the angle of building's direction and the gradient of the ground with the process of subdividing the existing regulation.

  • After latter half of the 1990 it has come out urban decline in big and middle & small cities. The purpose of this study is to review the methods of resident participation for community revitalization in civil renaissance through literature study. This study is divided into fourth parts. In the first part, the history of civil renaissance in Japan, German and England for getting grip on the situation is studied. In the second part, concepts of resident participation and community is dealed with. And the tendency of resident participation for community revitalization in civil renaissance is investigated through preceding researches. The third part and the last one are methods and conclusons and suggestions of resident participation revitalization in civil renaissance.

Korean Household’s Level and Standard of Consumption: For Developing Sustainable Lifestyle (한국가계의 소비수준 및 표준:지속가능한 생활양식의 실현 모색)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify household’s level and standard of consumption and their related variables in order to derive some useful implications for developing sustainable lifestyle. Data were collected from 567 household wives living in Seoul and the five Metropolitan cities in Korea. The results showed that most households owned such goods as central heating system, shower and bath, refrigerator, microwave oven, vacuum cleaner, washer. TV video player, personal computer, mobile phone, and car. They thought that most of the goods were necessary for the desired level of living and has a strong aspiration to buy those goods. This implied a tendency of uniformity in need perceptions and consumption patterns among Korean households. However, level and standard of consumption measured in selected living area differed according to age. education family size, household income, occupation, and the size housing, which showed that different approach was needed for developing sustainable lifestyle according to these variables.

  • According to the increasing power demands for the power transmission of major cities, HTS power cables which have large current capacity and low power loss will be needed. In this paper we have studied breakdown voltage properties of paper/liquid composite insulating system for HTS cable insulation. And we measured the dielectric loss(tan$\delta$) of mini-model cable. From results, the insulation paper-ice composite insulation system is thought to be one of good candidate for the electrical insulating system at cryogenic temperature.
