Medium Voltage Power Supply with Enhanced Ignition Characteristics for Plasma Torches

  • This paper investigates a power supply of medium voltage with enhanced ignition characteristics for plasma torches. A series resonant half-bridge topology is presented as a suitable ignition circuitry. The ignition circuitry is integrated into the main power conversion system of a multi-phase staggered three-level dc-dc converter with a diode front-end rectifier. A plasma torch rated at 3MW, 2kA and having a physical size of 1m is selected to be the high enthalpy source for a waste disposal system. The steady-state and transient operations of a plasma torch are simulated. The parameters of a Cassie-Mary arc model are calculated based on 3D magneto-hydrodynamic simulations. The circuit simulation waveform shows that the ripple of the arc current can be maintained within ${\pm}10%$ of its rated value under the presence of a load disturbance. This power conversion configuration provides a high enough ignition voltage, around 5KA, during the ignition phase and high arc stability under the existence of arc disturbance noise resulting in a high-performance plasma torch system.

  • Metalization technology of the fine patterns by electroless plating is required in place of electrodeposition as high-density printed circuit boards (PCB) become indispensable with the miniaturization of electronic components. Electroless nickel plating is a suitable diffusion barrier between conductor metals, such as Al and Cu, and solder is essetional in electronic packaging in order to sustain a long period of service. Moreover, Electroless nickel has particular characteristics including non-magnetic property, amorphous structure, wear resistance, corrosion protection and thermal stability. In this study fundamental aspects of electroless nickel deposition were studied with effect of complexeing agents of different kinds. Then, the property of electroless deposit are controlled by the composition of the deposition solution, the deposition condition such as temperature and pH value and so on. the characteristics of the deposits has been carried out.

  • Energy foundations and other thermo-active ground structure, energy wells, energy slab, and pavement heating and cooling represent an innovative technology that contributes to environmental protection and provides substantial long-term cost savings and minimized maintenance. This paper focuses on earth-contact concrete elements that are already required for structural reasons, but which simultaneously work as heat exchangers. Pipes, energy slabs, filled with a heat carrier fluid are installed under conventional structural elements, forming the primary circuit of a geothermal energy system. The natural ground temperature is used as a heat source in winter and heat sink in summer season. The system represented very high heating and cooling performance due to the stability of EWT from energy slab. Maximum heat pump unit COP and system COP were 4.9 and 4.3.

  • Design and performance of 18 GHz phase locked dielectric resonator oscillator(PLDRO) for Point-to-point radio link using analog phase locked loop is described which achieve high stability and low SSB phase noise. The module consists of an 18 GHz voltage controlled dielectric resonator oscillator(VCDRO), buffered amplifier, analog phase detector which are integrated to form a miniature hybrid circuit. In addition, containing a low phase noise VHF PLL has been designed to lock any other conventional N times frequency of crystal oscillator. The module achieves stable phase locked state, exhibits output power of 21 dBm at 18.00 GHz, -34 dBc harmonic suppression and -75 dBc/Hz phase noise at 10 kHz offset frequency from carrier.

  • The objectives of this paper are to demonstrate the electrical degradation phenomena with Si atom's behaviors in the grainboundary of semiconducting ZnO ceramics. The ZnO ceramic devices used in this investigation were fabricated by standard ceramic techniques. Especially, $SiO_2$ were added to analyze the degradation characteristics with Si and sintered in oxygen ambient at $1300^{\circ}C$. The conditions of DC degradation test were $115{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ for 13h. Using XRD and SEM, the phase and microstructure of samples were analyzed respectively. E-J analysis was used to determine $\alpha$. Frequency analysis was accomplished to understand $R_g$ and $R_b$ at the equivalent circuit. Electrical stability improved as the amount of $SiO_2$ addition increased. This results were explain by the quantitative analysis and the line scanning method of EPMA.

  • In this paper, the design method of asynchronous nonvolatile memory module that can efficiently process and store large amounts of data without loss when the power turned off is proposed and implemented. PSRAM, which takes advantage of DRAM and SRAM, was used for data processing, and NAND flash memory was used for data storage and backup. The problem of a lot of signal interference due to the characteristics of memory devices was solved through PCB design using high-density integration technology. In addition, a boost circuit using the super capacitor of 0.47F was designed to supply sufficient power to the system during the time to back up data when the power is off. As a result, an asynchronous nonvolatile memory module was designed and implemented that guarantees reliability and stability and can semi-permanently store data for about 10 years. The proposed method solved the problem of frequent data loss in industrial sites and presented the possibility of commercialization by providing convenience to users and managers.

A Density Functional Study of Furofuran Polymers as Potential Materials for Polymer Solar Cells

  • The structural, electronic, and optical properties of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) have been comprehensively studied by density functional theory (DFT) to rationalize the experimentally observed properties. Rather, we employed periodic boundary conditions (PBC) method to simulate the polymer block, and calculated effective charge mass from the band structure calculation for describing charge transport properties. The simulated results of P3HT are consistent with the experimental results in band gaps, absorption spectra, and effective charge mass. Based on the same calculated methods as P3HT, a series of polymers have been designed on the basis of the two types of building blocks, furofurans and furofurans substituted with cyano (CN) groups, to investigate suitable polymers toward polymer solar cell (PSC) materials. The calculated results reveal that the polymers substituted with CN groups have good structural stability, low-lying FMO energy levels, wide absorption spectra, and smaller effective masses, which are due to their good rigidity and conjugation in comparison with P3HT. Besides, the insertion of CN groups improves the performance of PSC. Synthetically, the designed polymers PFF1 and PFF2 are the champion candidates toward PSC relative to P3HT.

  • The important parameters deciding the fluctuation of Accumulation style surgical operation of ventriculus laser beam are smoothing capacitor, frequency and he characteristics of laser resonator. In this thesis, we control the fluctuation of medical $CO_2C$ laser in realtime by changing Duty-Ratio of IGBT and switching frequency with fixed the smoothing capacitor to improve the fluctuation of laser beam. We detect the light on laser resonator using a CdS photo sensor to improve ripple factor of laser beam and feedback fluctuated signals refined by a band pass filter into the control circuit to stabilize fluctuation actively. There is much to be desired in the realtime controlling technique of the light on Accumulation style surgical operation of ventriculus laser discharge tube in electrical signal. We propose switching control technique with microprocessor and photo sensing technique by controlling switch devices optimum operation and feedback signals detected by a photo sensor into the laser power supply in order to improve ripple factor of the $CO_2$ laser beam.

  • GPS(Global Positioning System) and GLONASS(GLObal Navigation Satellite System) are basic technologies providing the information of the position and the time, and they have various applications such as navigation, survey, control, and so on. However, each GPS and GLONASS has limited number of visible satellites, and, from the view of strategy, it is undesirable to be heavily dependent on only one system. Thus, GPS/GLONASS combined receiver became required to obtain more precise navigation and system stability. In this paper, the RF front end of GPS/GLONASS combined receiver was fabricated on 130$\times$80 $\textrm{mm}^2$ PCB(Printed Circuit Board), and its system application was shown finally one chip possibility of GLONASS receiver is studied.

  • This paper describes a control system design for the transmission STATCOM by applying a no-linear state feedback, and the performance analysis of the control system by simulations and scaled-model experiments. A mathematical model for the STATCOM was derived using a 3-phase equivalent circuit and a perturbation state equation with respect to a typical operating point. A transfer function to describe the dynamics of STATCOM was derived by considering nonlinear state feedback. A controller design was completed by analyzing the feedback system stability with root locus method. The performance analysis of the conceived control system was verified by simulations with the EMTP and experiments with scaled model, assuming that the STATCOM is connected to an 154kV transmission system. The results show that the conceived control system has excellent performance to control the reactive power of the transmission system.
