Students' protocols obtained from audio/video taping of small cooperative group problem solving processes were analyzed in the aspectsof verbal behaviors. The frequencies of the behaviors were com-pared by students' previous achievement level. Students' involvement in the verbal interaction for each level of students in each small group were also investigated. High-ability students ebility students and medium-or low-ability students. No significant differences were found in the subcategories of 'receiving information' or 'asking'. 0nly 3 small groups among 12 groups studied were found tobe bal-anced in students' involvelment. lnvolvement of medium-ability studentstended to be lower than that of high-and low-abilit students.
In this study, high school students' problem-solving strategy-performing ability was measured by an essay-type test. The relationship between students' logical thinking ability and strategy-performing ability was also investigated. Four classes (N=187) were selected from two high schools in Seoul, and the strategy performance ability test and the Group Assessment of Logical Thinking (GALT) were administered. Evaluation scheme for strategy-performing ability consists of 7 subcategories - understanding given of problems, recalling related law, setting up subgoals, deriving physical quantities, logical progress, mathematical execution, and reviewing. The intercoder agreement for scaling was .92, which indicated substantial strength of agreement. The results revealed that students' ability of understanding given of problems and mathematical execution was relatively high. However, their ability of setting up subgoals and reviewing was very low. The total scores of the strategy performance ability test and all of the scores of each subcategory were significantly correlated with the GALT scores.

Recently, the necessity and importance of entrepreneurship education in universities in terms of nurturing creative talents and career paths have been emphasized. This study attempted to examine the mechanism of how the effectiveness of entrepreneurship education affects career maturity by dividing it into theoretical education and practical entrepreneurship education with problem-solving competency rather than a single dimension. This study performed an empirical analysis using Smart PLS for 153 college students. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, it was found that theoretical and practical entrepreneurship education had a significant positive (+) effect on problem-solving ability. Second, theoretical entrepreneurship education had a positive (+) effect on career maturity. but practical entrepreneurship education did not have a direct significant effect on career maturity. Third, problem-solving ability had a positive (+) effect on career maturity. Finally, the mediating effect analysis revealed that problem-solving ability had mediating effects on both entrepreneurship education and career maturity of college students. In conclusion, this study has its significance in that it presents the effectiveness and direction of entrepreneurship education both in theory and practice at a time when it is urgent to foster inspiring and creative talent in universities to meet the demands of the times. In particular, it was analyzed that entrepreneurship education conducted at universities is required to upgrade the curriculum, content, methodology, and subject design of practical entrepreneurship education, and there is an urgent need for improvement so that the effect of practical entrepreneurship education can have a significant effect on career maturity.

The purpose of this study was to identify the problems faced by students in sub-microscopic representation of acid-base reactions. Herein, we selected 30 students of 12th grade science classes, who had studied various acid-base models. In order to investigate the sub-microscopic representation ability of the students, we developed nine items related to various contexts, such as one type of solute and solvent, two types of solutes and solvent, cases with water as solvent or with nonaqueous solvents. For all items, we consistently observed lack of concept of chemical change. In context of aqueous and nonaqueous solutions, the frequency of lack of concept of chemical bonding was high if ammonia was the solute or solvent. Moreover, the frequency of lack of concept related to the degree of electrolytic dissociation was high. Therefore, chemistry teachers should understand that students' ability to sub-microscopic representation of acid-base reactions can be enhanced by analyzing the difficulties faced by the students in solving diverse acid-base problems.

Maker movement is emerging as one of the key areas of the fourth industrial revolution in recent years. The maker movement is to create and share what users need using a variety of inexpensive production tools such as open source software and hardware, 3D printers and laser cutters. We think that the effect would be enhanced if design thinking is applied to elementary and middle school (K-12) class. The purpose of this study is to develop a design thinking-based maker education program and to apply it to classroom for clarify the effect on the creative problem solving ability of elementary school students. In order to verify the purpose of the research, students in the 5th-6th grades of elementary school were divided into a controlled group and an experimental group. The general lecture maker class was applied in the controlled group, and our developed design thinking-based maker class was simultaneously applied in the experimental group. The creative problem solving ability test was conducted before and after the test, and its effectiveness was verified using statistical t-test. In conclusion, this study suggests that design thinking-based maker education program has a positive effect on elementary school students' creative problem solving ability.
This study investigated the condition of chemistry teacher's student competency assessment based on the inquiry report. To this end, an inquiry report was collected for chemistry teachers who took the training at two universities that conducted the 2020 first-class chemistry teacher training. The science subject competencies presented in NAEA analysis framework was used to analyze what kind of competencies teachers assess students through inquiry reports. A total of 63 chemistry teachers submitted inquiry reports, which were analyzed by competency, sub-element of each competency, and detail element to analyze the actual situation. As a result of the study, most chemistry teachers reflected their 'scientific inquiry and problem-solving ability' in their evaluation through inquiry reports. 'Ability to understand and apply scientific principles', which is mainly evaluated through paper-based evaluation, was partially used as confirmation of prerequisite learning at the beginning of the inquiry and the weight of evaluating 'scientific communication skill' was not large. In 'scientific inquiry and problem-solving ability' through inquiry report, 'design and conduct explorations', 'data analysis and interpretation' and 'drawing conclusion and suggesting solution' were mainly assessed. However, 'discover and recognize problems' and 'development and use of model' were hardly assessed.
The study investigates the number and proportion of questions in each area by examining Chemistry I questions from the College Scholastic Ability Test from 2019 to 2022. The analysis was conducted using a three-dimensional framework that included key concepts in chemistry, behavioral domains in chemistry, and behavioral domains in mathematics. The results indicated that Chemistry I questions on the College Scholastic Ability Test had a relatively even distribution of questions across core individual topics, but highly difficult questions were predominantly biased toward stoichiometry. In terms of the behavioral domains in chemistry, there was a remarkably low proportion of questions related to problem recognition and hypothesis establishment, as well as designing research and implementing research. Conversely, highly difficult questions were more inclined towards drawing conclusions and evaluations. Regarding behavioral domains in mathematics, there was a limited number of questions addressing heuristic reasoning and deductive reasoning. On the other hand, high-difficulty questions favored internal problem-solving ability. Additionally, certain key concepts in chemistry and behavioral domains in chemistry exhibited a strong correlation with specific behavioral domains in mathematics. This characteristic was particularly evident in questions that encompassed higher-dimensional behavioral domains in mathematics, which students tend to find challenging.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of PBL (Problem-based Learning) strategy applied to the "Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory" class. Especially, the changes in 'self-directed learning ability' and 'attitudes toward science' of undergraduate students were examined. In addition, perception on PBL problem and the PBL classes were investigated. The results of this study were as follows: First, after the course, 'self-directed learning ability' and 'attitude toward science' of students were significantly improved (p < .05). There were significant improvements in every sub-categories except 'self-confidence as a learner' for 'self directed learning ability' and every sub-categories except 'usefulness of science' for 'attitude toward science'. Second, the students expressed that PBL strategy provided opportunities to learn self-directively and responsibly, but the process of defining the problem was difficult. Finally on the survey toward PBL strategy, the students responded that PBL problems were authentic and helpful to learn problem solving ability. In conclusion, PBL laboratory course is effective for developing self-directed learning ability and positive attitude toward science.

The STEAM education was applied to science high school students, and changes in perceptions of students and teachers were investigated after class treatment. By the results of the student's perception survey, very positive results were found in increasing problem-solving capabilities, educational satisfaction, etc. More than 98% of students said they would continue to participate in STEAM education classes. Meanwhile, the lack of time for class activities put a burden on students to complete the problems during class. Especially nanoscience content and activities were properly organized in consideration of the level of cognitive development of the students. In addition, as a result of a survey of teachers' perceptions for students, more than 80.0% of teachers responded very positively in 'self-directed learning ability' and 'problem-solving capability', etc.

High school students' achievements in algorithmic problems, and figure-formatted and textual-formatted conceptual problems concerning stoichiometry, gaseous state, and solution, were measured by the Chemistry Problem Solving Ability Test. The relationships among the achievement scores in the three types of problems and cognitive variables such as logical thinking ability, mental capacity, and field dependence/field independence were examined. The portion of variance of explanation for each achievement score was also studied by a multiple regression analysis. The results showed that logical thinking ability was significantly correlated with the achievement score in the algorithmic problems, and accounted for the significant portion of the variance of the score. Mental capacity accounted for the significant portion of the variance of the score in the figure-formatted conceptual problems. Although field dependence/field independence was significantly correlated with all the achievement scores, it did not significantly account for any scores in multiple regression analyses. However, the magnitudes of correlation coefficients among the achievement scores were higher than those between the achievement scores and cognitive variables. The best predictor for each score was also found to be one of the other achievement scores. Educational implications are discussed.
