  • Recently, with the expanding market for electronic devices and electric vehicles, secondary battery usage has been on the rise. Lithium-ion batteries are particularly popular due to their fast charging times and lightweight nature compared to other types of batteries. A secondary battery consists of four components: anode, cathode, electrolyte, and separator. Generally, the positive and negative electrode materials of secondary batteries are composed of an active material, a binder, and a conductive material. Acetylene Black (AB) is utilized to enhance conductivity between active material particles or metal dust collectors, preventing the binder from acting as an insulator. However, when recycling waste batteries that have been subject to high usage, there is a risk of fire and explosion accidents, as accurately identifying the characteristics of Acetylene Black dust proves to be challenging. In this study, the lower explosion limit for Acetylene Black dust with an average particle size of 0.042 ㎛ was determined to be 153.64 mg/L using a Hartmann-type dust explosion device. Notably, the dust did not explode at values below 168 mg, rendering the lower explosion limit calculation unfeasible. Analysis of explosion delay times with varying electrode gaps revealed the shortest delay time at 3 mm, with a noticeable increase in delay times for gaps of 4 mm or greater. The findings offer fundamental data for fire and explosion prevention measures in Acetylene Black waste recycling processes via a predictive model for lower explosion limits and ignition delay time.

  • An active-matrix LCD using thin film transistors (TFT) has been widely recognized as having potential for high-quality color flat-panel displays. Pixel-Design Array Simulation Tool (PDAST) was used to profoundly understand the gate signal distortion and pixel charging capability, which are the most critical limiting factors for high-quality TFT-LCDs. Since PDAST can simulate the gate, data and pixel voltages of a certain pixel on TFT array at any time and at any location on an array, the effect of the resistivity of gate line material on the pixel operations can be effectively analyzed. The gate signal delay. pixel charging ratio, level-shift of the pixel voltage were simulated with varying the parameters. The information obtained from this study could be utilized to design the larger area and finer image quality panel.

  • With increasing interests in renewables, more consumers are installing an energy storage system (ESS) in their backyards, and thus, the ESS will play a critical role in the emerging smart grid. Due to mechanical properties, however its operational dynamics must be well understood before connecting the ESS to the smart grid (and eventually to an IT system). To this end, we investigate charging and discharging processes in detail. This paper, then, proposes methods for four type tests (state of charge test, conversion efficiency test, response time test, and ramp rate test) that can assess the dynamics of the ESS. The proposed methods can capture accurate delay values of mechanical processes in the ESS, and it is expected for those values to help design real-time communication systems in the smart grid involving the ESS.

  • A simple two-terminal cyclic current0voltage(I-V) technique was used to measure the current-transients in metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitors. Distinct charging/discharging currents were measured and analyzed as a function of the hold time, the delay time, the gate polarity during the FNT electron injection, the injection fluence and the annealing time after the injection had stopped. The charge-exchange current was distinguished from total current-transients containing the displacement current components. Charging/discharging current caused by the charge exchange was strongly dependent not only on the density of positive charges in the $SiO_2$, but also on the density of interface traps generated during the FNT electron injection. Several tentative mechanisms were suggested.

  • In this paper two new non-inverting type BiCMOS drivers are proposed. These are characterized by the use of pMOSFET's in charging the bases of pull-down bipolar transistors. The delay time in pull-up transition of the proposed drivers is 20%-47% shorter than that of the drivers of current using. The proposed drivers use 1-3 fewer MOSFET's in comparison with the drivers of current using.

  • In recent times, motion capture technology using inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors has been actively used in sports. In this study, we developed a canoe paddle, installed with an IMU and a water level sensor, as a system tool for training and calibration purposes in water sports. The hardware was fabricated to control an attitude heading reference system (AHRS) module, a water level sensor, a communication module, and a wireless charging circuit. We also developed an application program for the mobile device that processes paddling motion data from the paddling operation and also visualizes it. An AHRS module with acceleration, gyro, and geomagnetic sensors each having three axes, and a resistive water level sensor that senses the immersion depth in the water of the paddle represented the paddle motion. The motion data transmitted from the paddle device is internally decoded and classified by the application program in the mobile device to perform visualization and to operate functions of the mobile training/correction system. To conclude, we tried to provide mobile knowledge service through paddle sport data using this technique. The developed system works reasonably well to be used as a basic training and posture correction tool for paddle sports; the transmission delay time of the sensor system is measured within 90 ms, and it shows that there is no complication in its practical usage.

  • In this paper, we present a systematic method of extracting the input parameters of poly-Si TFT(Thin-Film Transistor) for Spice simulations. This method has been applied to two different types of poly-Si TFTs such as ELA (Excimer Laser Annealing) and SMC (Silicide Mediated Crystallization) with good fitting results to experimental data. Among the Spice circuit simulators, the PSpice has the GUI(graphic user interface) feature making the composition of complicated circuits easier. We added successfully the poly-Si TFT model of AIM-Spice to the PSpice simulator, and analyzed easily to compare the electrical characteristics of pixels without or with the line RC delay. In the comparative results, the ELA poly-Si TFT is superior to the SMC poly-Si TFT in the charging time and the kickback voltage for the TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display).

  • The turn-to-turn contact resistance of 2G high temperature superconducting (HTS) coils with metal insulation (MI) is closely related to the stability of the coils, current charging rate and delay time [1]. MI coils were fabricated using five kinds of metal tapes such as aluminum (Al) tape, brass tape, stainless steel (SS) tape, copper (Cu)-plated tape and one-sided Cu-plated SS tape. The turn-to-turn contact surface resistances of co-winding model coils using Al tape, brass tape, and SS tape were 342.6, 343.6 and $724.8{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, respectively. The turn-to-turn contact resistance of the model coil using the one-sided Cu-plated SS tape was $ 248.8{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, which was lower than that of Al and brass tape. Al or brass tape can be used to reduce contact resistance and improve the stability of the coil. Considering strength, SS tape is recommended. For strength and low contact resistance, SS tape with copper plating on one side can be used.

  • An experimental study was carried out to obtain the fundamental data about the effects of radical ignition on premixture combustion. A CVC(constant volume combustor) divided into the sub-chamber and the main chamber was used. Numerous narrow passage holes are arranged between the main chamber and the sub-chamber. The products including radicals generated by spark ignition in tile sub-chamber derives the simultaneous multi-point ignition in the main chamber. We have examined the effects of the sub-chamber volume, the diameter and number of passage holes, and the equivalence $ratio({\Phi})$ on the combustion characteristics by means of burning pressure measurement and flame visualization. In a CVC, the overall burning time including the ignition delay became very short and the maximum burning pressure was slightly increased by the radical ignition(RI) method in comparison with those by the conventional spark ignition(SI) method. Combustible lean limit by RI method is extended by ${\Phi}=0.25$ compared with that by SI method. Also, In cases of charging the number and the diameter for the fixed total cross section of the passage holes, combustion period increased significantly at a sub-chamber with a single hole, but those of the other conditions had almost a similar tendency in the sub-chamber with 4 or more holes. regardless of equivalence ratio. Therefore, it was Proved that a critical cross section exists with the number of passage holes.
