  • Pulse electrochemical micromachining offers significant improvements in dimensional accuracy as compared with conventional electrochemical machining. One primary issue in pulse electrochemical micromachining is to identify and control machining depth as well as interelectrode gap size. This paper presents an identification method for the machining depth by in-process analysis of machining current and interelectrode gap size. The inter electrode gap characteristics, including pulse current, effective volumetric electrochemical equivalent and electrolyte conductivity variations, are analysed based on the model and experiments.

  • An Area Radiation Monitoring System (ARMS) ionization chamber, which had an 11.8 L active volume, was fabricated and performance-tested at KAERI. Low leakage currents, linearities at low and high dose rates were achieved from performance tests. The correlation coefficients between the ionization currents and the dose rates are 1 at high dose rate and 0.99 at low dose rate. In this study, an integration-type ARMS ionization chamber was tested over a year for an evaluation of its long-term stability at a radioisotope (RI) repository of the Young-gwang nuclear power plant. The standard deviation of dose rate of 1 day data and over a 100-days mean value were 6.2 $\mu$R/h and 2.9 $\mu$R/h, respectively. The fabricated ARMS ionization chamber showed stable performance from the results of the long-term tests. Design and performance characteristics of the fabricated ionization chamber for the ARMS from performance-tests are also addressed.

  • Gate oxide scaling for sub-l00nm CMOS devices has been studied. Issues on the gate oxide scaling are reviewed, which are boron penetration, reliability, and direct tunneling leakage currents. Reliability of Sub-2.0nm oxides and the device performance degradation due to boron penetration are investigated. Especially, the effect of gate leakage currents on the transistor characteristics is studied. As a result, it is proposed that thinner oxides than previous expectations may be usable as scaling proceeds. Based on the gate oxide thickness optimization process we have established, high performance CMOS transistors of $L_{gate}=70nm$ and $T_{ox}=1.4nm$ were fabricated, which showed excellent current drives of $860\mu\textrm{A}/\mu\textrm{m}$ (NMOS) and $350\mu\textrm{A}/\mu\textrm{m}$ (PMOS) at $I_{off}=10\mu\textrm{A}/\mu\textrm{m}$ and $V_dd=1.2V$, and CV/I of 1.60ps (NMOS) and 3.32ps(PMOS).

  • Grounding insures a reference potential point for electric devices and also provides a low resistance path for fault currents in the earth. The ground impedance as a function of frequency is necessary for determining its performance since fault currents could contain a wide range of frequencies. In this paper, the ground impedance of Magic rods which are commercially available has been measured in frequency ranging from 0[Hz] up to 100[kHz] and an equivalent circuit model, transfer function model of the ground impedance are identified from the measured values.

  • Grounding insures a reference potential point for electric devices and also provides a low resistance path for fault currents in the earth. The ground impedance as a function of frequency is necessary for determining its performance since fault currents could contain a wide range of frequencies. A cower rod electrode is the most commonly used grounding electrode in electric distribution systems. In this paper, the ground impedance of cower rods has been measured in frequency ranging from 60[Hz] up to 100[kHz] and an equivalent circuit model, transfer function model of the ground impedance are identified from the measured values.

  • This paper characterizes typical nonlinear loads into two types of harmonic sources, i.e., harmonic voltage source and harmonic current source. A series resonant filter is very effective in harmonic reduction for harmonic voltage source type of nonlinear loads such as personal computer loads with smoothing dc capacitors. A parallel resonant filter is suited for current source type of nonlinear loads such as ac drives with smoothing dc reactors. General compensation characteristics and comparison of series and parallel resonant filters are given analytically and experimentally. Compliance with IEC Std 1000-3-2 has been evaluated for limiting harmonic distortion.

  • Cantilever-shaped lateral field emitters were fabricated and their electrical characteristics were tested. As shown in Fig.1, poly-silicon cantilevers were fabricated by the surface micromachining and they were used to the vacuum magnetic field sensors. The tunneling devices were vacuum sealed with the tubeless packaging method, as shown in Fig.2 and Fig.3. The soda-lime glasses were used for better encapsulation, so the sputtered silicon and the glass layers on the soda-lime glasses were bonded together at 1x10$^{-6}$ Torr. The getter was activated after the vacuum sealing fur the stable emissions. The devices were tested outside of the vacuum chamber. Through vacuum packaging, the tunneling sensors can be utilized. Fig.4 shows that the sensor operates with the switching of the magnetic field. When the magnetic field was applied to the device, the anode currents were varied by the Lorentz force. The difference of anode currents can be varied with the strength of the applied magnetic field.

  • FSSA(Fine Sun Sensor Assembly) is the important sensor for satellite attitude control. FSSA measures the direction of the sun's rays and determines whether the satellite is in the eclipse or not. FSSA for GEO Satellite is also used to acquire the attitude error information in the attitude control reference frame and acquire the Sun direction during transfer orbit or mission Process. This paper shows the configuration of Fine Sun Sensor for LEO and GEO Satellite and their principle of operation that angle measurement is obtained by using the transfer function which is the ratio of the difference between output currents of Solar Cell to the sum of all output currents.

  • Here we present the comparative experimental study of the stability of the superconducting state in 4 mm YBCO tapes with copper lamination against local heat disturbances at 77 K. The samples are either directly cooled by immersing a bare YBCO tape into a liquid nitrogen pool or operate in nearly-adiabatic conditions when the tape is covered by a 0.6 mm layer of Kapton insulation. Main quench characteristics, i.e. minimum quench energies (MQEs) and normal zone propagation (NZP) velocities for both samples are measured and compared. Minimum NZP currents are determined by a low ohmic resistor technique eligible for obtaining V - I curves with a negative differential resistance. The region of transport currents satisfying the stationary stability criterion is found for the different cooling conditions. Finally, we use the critical temperature margin as a universal scaling parameter to compare the MQEs obtained in this work for YBCO tapes at 77 K with those taken from literature for low-temperature superconductors in vacuum at 4.2 K, as well as for MgB2 wires cooled with a cryocooler down to 20 K.
