  • In this paper we consider technological requirements of the on-channel repeater to broadcast the terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) signals using single frequency networks (SFN) and propose the configuration and implementation method of the equalization on-channel repeater (OCR) that meet such requirements. The proposed equalization OCR not only has short time delay, but shows high output power and good quality of output signal by removing a feedback signal due to incomplete antenna isolation and multipath signal existing between the main transmitter and the OCR. In addition, computer simulations and laboratory tests results are provided to figure out performance of the proposed equalization OCR.

  • Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) is a channel access scheme adopted by the IEEE 802.11e draft standard for QoS-enabled wireless local area networks. It classifies traffic into separate Access Categories (ACs) and achieves service differentiation by allowing each AC to have its own values of channel access parameters. This paper proposes a scheme to dynamically adapt the EDCA parameters to traffic environment so that they both maximize the throughput of non real-time traffics and meet the delay and throughput constraints of real-time traffics. For this purpose, we develop a design algorithm for efficient exploration of the EDCA parameter space. Using the algorithm, we derive a Pareto curve fur delay-throughput trade-off in each anticipated traffic environment. The Pareto database can then be used to optimally adjust the parameter according to the traffic environment and administrative policies. Simulation results show that compared with the default parameter configuration, the proposed scheme is better for delay, throughput guarantee and can improve the throughput of non real-time traffics by 12% on average.

  • The goal of this study was to analyze the effects of genistein, a widely used tyrosine kinase inhibitor, on cloned Shaw-type $K^+$ currents, Kv3.1 which were stably expressed in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, using the whole-cell configuration of patch-clamp techniques. In whole-cell recordings, genistein at external concentrations from 10 to $100{\mu}M$ accelerated the rate of inactivation of Kv3.1 currents, thereby concentration-dependently reducing the current at the end of depolarizing pulse with an $IC_{50}$ value of $15.71{\pm}0.67{\mu}M$ and a Hill coefficient of $3.28{\pm}0.35$ (n=5). The time constant of activation at a 300 ms depolarizing test pulses from -80 mV to +40 mV was $1.01{\pm}0.04$ ms and $0.90{\pm}0.05$ ms (n=9) under control conditions and in the presence of $20{\mu}M$ genistein, respectively, indicating that the activation kinetics was not significantly modified by genistein. Genistein $(20{\mu}M)$ slowed the deactivation of the tail current elicited upon repolarization to -40 mV, thus inducing a crossover phenomenon. These results suggest that drug unbinding is required before Kv3.1 channels can close. Genistein-induced block was voltage-dependent, increasing in the voltage range $(-20\'mV{\sim}0\'mV)$ for channel opening, suggesting an open channel interaction. Genistein $(20{\mu}M)$ produced use-dependent block of Kv3.1 at a stimulation frequency of 1 Hz. The voltage dependence of steady-state inactivation of Kv3.1 was not changed by $20{\mu}M$ genistein. Our results indicate that genistein blocks directly Kv3.1 currents in concentration-, voltage-, time-dependent manners and the action of genistein on Kv3.1 is independent of tyrosine kinase inhibition.

  • The implementation possibility and increasement of transmission distance of 1 Tbps WDM transmission systems through the applying optical link configuration with inline dispersion management (DM) and optical phase conjugator (OPC) is investigated. When the considered optical link configuration is applied into $26{\times}40$ Gbps WDM transmission system and the optimal net residual dispersions (NRDs) depending on transmission length are decided, the effective transmission distanceis highly increased than that resulted in same system with fixed 0 ps/nm NRD in all transmission length. And, design rule of inline DM optical link is also shown through inducing the effective range of precompensation and postcompensation depending on transmission distance and launching power of WDM channel.

  • Optimal design of an air-to-liquid finned plate heat exchanger is considered theoretically in this study. Based on existing correlations for the pressure loss and the heat transfer in channel flows, the optimal configuration of the plate heat exchanger including the optimal plate pitch and the optimal fin pitch is obtained to maximize the heat transfer within the limit of the pressure drop for a given flow depth of the plate heat exchanger. It is found that the optimal fin pitch is about one ninth of the optimal plate pitch. In the optimal configuration, the flow and thermal condition in the channels is just at the boundary between the laminar developing and laminar fully developed states. It is also found when reducing the flow depth of plate heat exchangers for compactness, the heat transfer performance can be maintained exactly the same if the geometric parameters such as the plate thickness, plate pitch, fin thickness, and fin pitch are reduced proportional to the square root of the flow depth as long as the flow keeps laminar within the heat exchangers.

  • Millimeter wave (mmWave) communication based on the wide bandwidth of >28 GHz is one of the key technologies for cellular-connected unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The selection of mmWave beams in such cellular-connected UAVs is challenging and critical, especially when downlink transmissions toward aerial user equipment (UE) suffer from poor signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) more often than their terrestrial counterparts. This study proposed a coordinated mmWave beam selection scheme using fingerprint for cellular-connected UAV. The scheme comprises fingerprint database configuration and coordinated beam selection. In the fingerprint database configuration, the best beam index from the serving cell and interference beam indexes from neighboring cells are stored. In the coordinated beam selection, the best and interference beams are determined using the fingerprint database information instead of performing an exhaustive search, and the coordinated beam transmission improves the SINR for aerial UEs. System-level simulations assess the UAV effect based on the third-generation partnership project-new radio mmWave and UAV channel models. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can reduce the overhead of exhaustive search and improve the SINR and spectral efficiency.

  • Recently flexible mobile terminals which can freely change the shape of their device are coming out with the development of the flexible display, high capacity memory and system integration technology. The display and the antenna configuration of the future terminals will be altered according to the QoS (quality of service) and the communication environment of users. In particular, we present the new emergence of a multimedia language for human and system to communicate over subjective concepts, intention of users. The intension of users is expressed by changing the shape of their mobile terminal. In addition, antenna configuration is also related to shape of terminal and QoS of users. Therefore, we set up a specific usage scenarios for future mobile terminals and propose an adaptive MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) schemes that can maximize channel capacity and fit to QoS of users simultaneously.

  • I/O processing speed of relatively sluggish storage devices incurs overall performance degradation in computer systems. As a solution to improve the situation, SAN(Storage Area Network) has been proposed. In order to utilize a SAN system more effectively, where storage devices are directly connected with a high speed network such as Fibre Channel, a proper management tool is needed. In this paper, we present a design and implementation of a performance monitoring and configuration management tool for the SANtopia system which supports global file sharing in the SAN environment The developed tool is to monitor the performance of the Linux hosts composing the SANtopia system and to manage the configuration of the hosts and storage devices. It also supports GUI(Graphic User Interface) environment using the JAVA programming language.

  • The transmit/receive(T/R) module is a key component in the active phased array system. The brick-type T/R module has been widely used and the miniaturization has been an important factor to get the flexibility of the system configuration. For the miniaturization, multi-function chips(MFC) having a common leg configuration are suitable to reduce the number of required MMICs and a high isolation between transmit and receive paths is necessary for the high gain T/R modules. In this work, we propose a bias timing scheme for the compact T/R module and show the optimum timing based on measurements, in order to improve the feed-back path loop problem and the consequent isolation problem of the common leg configuration. We have implemented high power(7 W/channel) and high T/R gain(35 dB transmit and 30 dB receive gains) within the half size($140{\times}80{\times}16mm^3$) of the conventional T/R modules.

  • Numerical analysis by SIMPLE algorithm has been performed to predict the characteristics of flow and heat transfer in channels between the printed circuit boards of an electronic cabinet. It is assumed that the electronic parts release uniform heat flux per unit axial length to the cooling air. The air flow between channels is assumed fully developed laminar, incompressible, and mixed convective. In this study, the electronic parts are mounted on both sides of the prinked circuit boards by two kinds of configuration such as the zig-zag and the symmetric one. The Rayleigh numbers ranging from 0 to 10$^{6}$ are considered to predict the characteristics of the main flow and the secondary flow occurred by natural convection, the temperature distribution in channel, the heat transfer rate from heated electronic parts and the increase of friction factor by natural convection. As the results of numerical calculation, several conclusions are drawn as follows. The influence of natural convection on the flow characteristics appears strong when the Rayleigh number is above 10$^{4}$. The main axial flow rate decreases by a half or more at the Rayleigh number of 10$^{6}$ . Although the friction factor increases as Rayleigh number increases, the increasing rate of heat transfer is higher than that of the friction factor. The cooling efficiency of the zig-zig-configuration is superior to that of the symmetric configuration at same Rayleigh number.
