  • We evaluated the effects of pre-cooking methods on the quality of reheated marinated pork loin. Frozen marinated pork loins cooked using various methods (boiling, grilling, pan frying, infrared cooking, and superheated steam cooking) were reheated in a microwave, and their pH, color, cooking loss, re-heating loss, total loss, thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) value, sensory properties, and shear force were determined. Although all parameters varied with different cooking methods, lightness values and TBARS values showed the tendency to decrease and increase, respectively, after reheating. Superheated steam-cooked samples showed the lowest values of cooking loss, total loss, TBARS value, and shear force (p<0.05) and the highest lightness, redness, and yellowssness values and juiciness, chewiness, and overall acceptability scores (p<0.05). These results show that pre-cooking with superheated steam maintains the quality characteristics of marinated pork loin upon reheating. Therefore, pre-cooking with superheated steam may be beneficial for the commercial distribution of frozen cooked marinated pork loin.

  • Development trend of modern HSDI diesel engine is now focusing on low fuel consumption and emission because of strong interest in global environmental protection. Two big branches of criteria for modern diesel engine development are down sizing and down speeding. Down sizing keeps engine operation condition to the direction of higher load and thus pursuing for better thermal efficiency. But this may cause degraded vehicle dynamic performance because of reduced back up torque. Down speeding keeps engine operation condition to the direction of slightly higher load and lower engine speed. Therefore reduction of back up torque can be limited within flat torque area. This study analyzed fuel economy effect of down speeding on a vehicle powered by HSDI diesel engine in aspect of engine friction work, intake and exhaust pumping work, exhaust hat loss and thermal loss of fuel leakage of fuel injection system. Contribution factor of each engine and vehicle related parameters under basic and down speeding condition were compared and work balance of down speeding during NEDC was analyzed.

  • According to flow of energy, the loss occurs through walls, roofs, windows and so on. Among these case, most of the loss that is about 45% occurs through windows. windows's U-value is six times higher than wall's one according to Building code, so the loss through windows accounts for very much rates. Currently, Exterior wall's U-value about building envelope is 0.35~0.58W/ mK, but windows's one is 3.3W/ mK. It means that the loss through windows occupy very much amounts relatively. Therefore, the solution is required to reduce energy loss and increasing displeasure caused by excessive influx of solar energy through windows, to solve the problems Like decoloration on indoor furniture an clothes by harmful ultraviolet rays, air conditioning and increased cost. Therefore, on this paper, Thermal Performance was evaluated through actual test about high insulation Super Window which can improve thermal performance and the Simulation result was compared with actual resul by using Simulation program WINDOW and THERM.

  • Most modern adults are overweight or obese. Health services are troubling to overcome the large number of individuals in need of weight loss. Music therapy is emerging as a new option. Among various music therapy methods, it studied various treatments through Korean traditional music, and it is thought that Korean traditional music is a good therapy for diet. The present review focused on find the most useful condition for weight control by using Korean traditional music. National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts measured the dB of Korean traditional music, In the next, listen to other dB's music while eating and compared energy intake, water intake, duration of meals, number of servings, number of bites, eating rate (bites per minute), and bite size (grams). As a result of the exhibits, differences in food intake were also found in the difference of dB. 60 dB of music showed a decrease in energy intake. It suggests that Korean traditional music belonging to 60 dB brings weight loss effect. As a result, the effect of weight loss is shown by use Korean traditional music. However, future studies should be performed to reduce the energy intake by increasing the exposure period to Korean traditional music

  • Soil degradation has become a major worldwide environmental problem, particularly in arid and semi-arid climate zones due to irregular rainfall and the intensity of storms that frequently generate heavy flooding. The main objective of this study is the use of geographic information system and remote sensing techniques to quantify and to map the soil losses in the Wadi Saida watershed (624 ㎢) through the revised universal soil loss equation model and a proposed model based on the surface erosive runoff. The results Analysis revealed that the Wadi Saida watershed showed moderate to moderately high soil loss, between 0 and 1000 t/㎢/year. In the northern part of the basin in the region of Sidi Boubkeur and the mountains of Daia; which are characterized by steep slopes, values can reach up to 3000 t/㎢/year. The two models in comparison showed a good correlation with R = 0.95 and RMSE = 0.43; the use of the erosive surface runoff parameter is effective to estimate the rate of soil loss in the watersheds. The problem of soil erosion requires serious interventions, particularly in basins with disturbances and aggressive climatic parameters. Good agricultural practices and forest preservation areas play an important role in soil conservation.

  • In this paper, simulations of S-parameter and characteristic impedance for the probe pin are performed and its high-frequency performance is analyzed. The probe pins are arranged with one signal pin in the center and four ground pins on the top, bottom, left and right sides. The insertion loss and return loss of the probe pin are calculated while increasing the separation between the probe pins to 0.35 mm, 0.40 mm, and 0.50 mm, respectively. It is confirmed that the probe pin has different features of the insertion loss due to its periodic resonance phenomenon. Effect of the characteristic impedance on pitch and assignment of the probe pin is also analyzed. It is verified that there are a number of ground pins whose characteristic impedance is close to 50 Ω.

  • Ceramics have high hardness, corrosion resistance, and abrasion resistance, but are easily fractured by micro crack. Many studies on self-healing have been conducted to eliminate the risk of micro crack on the surface. SiO2 is self-healing material, in which Si and O2 are combined. TiO2-added Si3N4/SiC composites were sintered. The SiO2 colloid was coated on the surface, and heat treated. The bending strength and abrasion characteristics were evaluated. The specimen with SiO2 colloid coating had higher strength than that of the uncoated specimen, and the strength of TiO2-added specimen also increased. The friction coefficient and wear loss of SiO2 colloid coated specimens were smaller than those of the uncoated specimens. The friction coefficient and wear loss of TiO2-added specimens were smaller than those without additives. The friction coefficient and wear loss decreased with increasing bending strength. Friction coefficient and wear loss according to the heat treatment temperature showed the reverse tendency to the bending strength. Therefore, TiO2-added ceramic will ensure economic efficiency.

  • This paper presents the effect of scratches on an optical connector interface surface on the insertion loss of optical connectors. We propose a model for calculating the insertion loss of optical connectors. The model is expressed in terms of geometrical parameters of scratches assuming that the transmission coefficient of a light wave on the scratch surfaces is linearly varied as a function of scratch depth. Geometrical parameters of scratches such as location, width, and depth of scratches are measured using 3D optical interferometry surface profiler. We obtain the equation of the transmission coefficient in terms of scratch depth comparing the experimental insertion loss data to the insertion loss data using the model presented in this paper. Using the model and the equation of the transmission coefficient presented in this paper, we present the results of the insertion loss of optical connectors for various geometrical parameters of scratches. Scratches which are located at longer than two times the core radius from the center of the core show negligible effect on the insertion loss of optical connectors.

  • Purpose: To develop and evaluate a simple screening tool to assess hearing loss in newborns. A derived score was compared with the standard clinical practice tool. Methods: This cohort study was designed to screen the hearing of newborns using transiently evoked otoacoustic emission and auditory brain stem response, and to determine the risk factors associated with hearing loss of newborns in 3 tertiary hospitals in Northern Thailand. Data were prospectively collected from November 1, 2010 to May 31, 2012. To develop the risk score, clinical-risk indicators were measured by Poisson risk regression. The regression coefficients were transformed into item scores dividing each regression-coefficient with the smallest coefficient in the model, rounding the number to its nearest integer, and adding up to a total score. Results: Five clinical risk factors (Craniofacial anomaly, Ototoxicity, Birth weight, family history [Relative] of congenital sensorineural hearing loss, and Apgar score) were included in our COBRA score. The screening tool detected, by area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, more than 80% of existing hearing loss. The positive-likelihood ratio of hearing loss in patients with scores of 4, 6, and 8 were 25.21 (95% confidence interval [CI], 14.69-43.26), 58.52 (95% CI, 36.26-94.44), and 51.56 (95% CI, 33.74-78.82), respectively. This result was similar to the standard tool (The Joint Committee on Infant Hearing) of 26.72 (95% CI, 20.59-34.66). Conclusion: A simple screening tool of five predictors provides good prediction indices for newborn hearing loss, which may motivate parents to bring children for further appropriate testing and investigations.
