Multivariate or clustered failure time data often occur in many medical, epidemiological, and socio-economic studies when survival data are collected from several research centers. If the data are periodically observed as in a longitudinal study, survival times are often subject to various types of interval-censoring, creating multivariate interval-censored data. Then, the event times of interest may be correlated among individuals who come from the same cluster. In this article, we propose a unified linear regression method for analyzing multivariate interval-censored data. We consider a semiparametric multivariate accelerated failure time model as a statistical analysis tool and develop a generalized Buckley-James method to make inferences by imputing interval-censored observations with their conditional mean values. Since the study population consists of several heterogeneous clusters, where the subjects in the same cluster may be related, we propose a generalized estimating equations approach to accommodate potential dependence in clusters. Our simulation results confirm that the proposed estimator is robust to misspecification of working covariance matrix and statistical efficiency can increase when the working covariance structure is close to the truth. The proposed method is applied to the dataset from a diabetic retinopathy study.
Accurate demand forecasting is a crucial component in revenue management(RM). The booking data of departed flights is used to forecast the demand for future departing flights; however, some booking requests that were denied were omitted in the departed flights data. Denied booking requests can be interpreted as censored in statistics. Thus, unconstraining demand is an important issue to forecast the true demands of future flights. Several unconstraining methods have been introduced and a method based on expectation maximization is considered superior. In this study, we propose a new unconstraining method based on a regression model that can entertain such censored data. Through a simulation study, the performance of the proposed method was evaluated with two representative unconstraining methods widely used in RM.

High-dimensional survival data with large numbers of predictors has become more common. The analysis of such data can be facilitated if the dimensions of predictors are adequately reduced. Recent studies show that a method called sliced inverse regression (SIR) is an effective dimension reduction tool in high-dimensional survival regression. However, it faces incapability in implementation due to a double categorization procedure. This problem can be overcome in the right-censoring type by transforming the observed survival time and censoring status into a single variable. This provides more flexibility in the categorization, so the applicability of SIR can be enhanced. Numerical studies show that the proposed transforming approach is equally good to (or even better) than the usual SIR application in both balanced and highly-unbalanced censoring status. The real data example also confirms its practical usefulness, so the proposed approach should be an effective and valuable addition to usual statistical practitioners.

In this paper we propose an estimation method for regression quantiles with left-truncated and right-censored data. The estimation procedure is based on the weight determined by the Kaplan-Meier estimate of the distribution of the response. We show how the proposed regression quantile estimators perform through analyses of Stanford heart transplant data and AIDS incubation data. We also investigate the effect of censoring on regression quantiles through simulation study.
The Bayesian method can be applied successfully to the estimation of the censored regression model introduced by Tobin (1958). The Bayes estimates show improvements over the maximum likelihood estimate; however, the performance of the Bayesian interval estimation is questionable. In Bayesian paradigm, the prior distribution usually reflects personal beliefs about the parameters. Such subjective priors will typically yield interval estimators with poor frequentist properties; however, an objective noninformative often yields a Bayesian procedure with good frequentist properties. We examine the performance of frequentist properties of noninformative priors for the Tobit regression model.
In this paper, Tobit and Heckit models are introduced. These models have been used for analyzing censored data. Censoring occurs at a specific point and a large number of observations are distributed with a positive probability at a certain point. Censoring can occur due to observing limitation or exogenous variables. Tobit and Heckit models are used to correct sample selection bias, which can occur when an ordinary linear regression model is fitted to censored data. However, the difference between the two models is not clearly accounted for; hence, they have often been used interchangeably. Therefore, the suitability of the models was validated through simulated data, and demonstrated through real data. As the result, it was confirmed that both Tobit and Heckit models are well-fitted to the data censored due to observing limitation, although Tobit model was fitted parsimoniously. In contrast, only Heckit model is well-fitted to the data censored due to exogenous variables.
In this paper we propose a logistic regression method to estimate the survival function and the median survival time in interval-censored data. The proposed method is motivated by the data augmentation technique with no sacrifice in augmenting data. In addition, we develop a cross validation criterion to determine the size of data augmentation. We compare the proposed estimator with other existing methods such as the parametric method, the single point imputation method, and the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator through extensive numerical studies to show that the proposed estimator performs better than others in the sense of the mean squared error. An illustrative example based on a real data set is given.

In survival analysis, the Nelson-Aalen estimator and Peterson estimator are often used to estimate a cumulative hazard function in randomly right censored data. In this paper, we suggested the smoothing version of the cumulative hazard function estimators using a Bezier curve. We compare them with the existing estimators including a kernel smooth version of the Nelson-Aalen estimator and the Peterson estimator in the sense of mean integrated square error to show through numerical studies that the proposed estimators are better than existing ones. Further, we applied our method to the Cox regression where covariates are used as predictors and suggested a survival function estimation at a given covariate.
We propose a multi-state model for analyzing semi-competing risks data with interval-censored or missing intermediate events. This model is an extension of the 'illness-death model', which composes three states, such as 'healthy', 'diseased', and 'dead'. The state of 'diseased' can be considered as an intermediate event. Two more states are added into the illness-death model to describe missing events caused by a loss of follow-up before the end of the study. One of them is a state of 'LTF', representing a lost-to-follow-up, and the other is an unobservable state that represents the intermediate event experienced after LTF occurred. Given covariates, we employ the Cox proportional hazards model with a normal frailty and construct a full likelihood to estimate transition intensities between states in the multi-state model. Marginalization of the full likelihood is completed using the adaptive Gaussian quadrature, and the optimal solution of the regression parameters is achieved through the iterative Newton-Raphson algorithm. Simulation studies are carried out to investigate the finite-sample performance of the proposed estimation procedure in terms of the empirical coverage probability of the true regression parameter. Our proposed method is also illustrated with the dataset adapted from Helmer et al. (2001).
In this study our main focus is to verify the relationship between social value of transportation system and its perceived features. To achieve this objective, we investigated the value of public bike system (PBS) through willingness to pay (WTP) analysis using contingent valuation method (CVM) and the survey was conducted for 1726 respondents who live in Suwon, Korea. Moreover the determinants related to features related to bicycle use were also gathered. The estimated binary logistic regression and censored regression reveal that the value of PBS is influenced by perceived features towards bicycle use incorporating non-congestion, transportation mode like auto and bus, and high mobility system as well as other variables such as income, bicycle ownership etc. Furthermore the results show that the perceiving of positive features to bicycle use leads to higher social value of PBS. Based on the findings, we discuss the importance of pre-review for transport policy implementation, and also explore the possibilities for application to PBS.
