활성탄과 가소제가 탄소복합필터의 경도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Triacetin and Activated Carbon on the Hardness of Cellulose Acetate Filter containing Activated Carbon)

  • Filter hardness is important to filter and cigarette manufactures because it is directly related to the ability of a plugmaker during making filter and to the acceptability of the filter by the consumer. In general, glycerol triacetate(Triacetin, TA) is the currently used common plasticizer in making filters from cellulose acetate tow and the effect of triacetin on hardness of filter which is made of mono cellulose acetate tow was well known. But unfortunately, the effect of triacetin on the hardness of cellulose acetate filter containing ativated carbon(carbon filter) was not reported so far. In this study, we manufactured filters with various carbon content at different triacetin concentrations and then analyzed the filter hardness and pressure drop. Filter hardness was directly increased with triacetin concentration but pressure drop was not affected and the effect of carbon content on filter hardness was smaller than that of triacetin concentration. However, pressure drop was directly increased with carbon content.

셀룰로오스 아세테이트 모노 필터의 경도 예측 (Prediction of the % Hardness Curve of Cellulose Acetate Mono Filters)

  • The objective of the present study is to induct the regression equation for the hardness prediction of cellulose acetate filter which was manufactured by the domestic cellulose acetate tow manufacturer. As a result of our study, the hardness of filter was increased with increasing the plasticizer content and packing density as major factors affecting to the filter hardness. As a result which was obtained by the three dimensional response surface methodology in STATISTIC A program, the hardness prediction value well fitted with experiment result on the high plasticizer content. To make up for the this equation, the new modified fraction of solid factors which was contained the mono denier factor was introduced to the hardness prediction equation, and this third regression equation which was sufficient for the wide plasticizer content, was obtained by the three dimensional response surface methodology in STATISTICA. This results indicated that the third regression equation which was obtained this study was applicable for the hardness prediction of cellulose acetate filter which was manufactured by the domestic cellulose acetate tow manufacturer.

셀롤로오스 아세테이트 필터의 특성곡선 예측 (Predicting the Capability Curve of Cellulose Acetate Filters)

  • A theoretical model for predicting the capability curve of cellulose acetate filter is derived. The pressure drop is expressed as a function of the filter dimensions, the tow fiber characteristics, the filter weight, the fluid flow rate, and a filter fiber factor. Where, the filter fiber factor is affected by the distribution of the tow fibers within the filter, the relative orientations of the tow fibers, and their cross-sectional shapes. The minimum and maximum fraction of solids in capability curves determined from experimental data. Also, the filter fiber factor is expressed as a function of the filter length, tow fiber length, and tow fiber diameter. Capability curves predicted by the suggested model in this work correspond well with capability curves by experimental data.

Optimal filter materials for protist quantification via droplet digital PCR

  • The use of droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) has greatly improved the quantification of harmful protists, outperforming traditional methods like quantitative PCR. Notably, ddPCR provides enhanced consistency and reproducibility at it resists PCR inhibitors commonly found in environmental DNA samples. This study aimed to determine the most effective filter material for ddPCR protocols by assessing the reproducibility of species-specific gene copy numbers and filtration time across six filter types: cellulose acetate (CA), mixed cellulose ester (MCE), nylon (NY), polycarbonate (PC), polyethersulfone (PES), and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). The study used two species of Chattonella marina complexes as a case study. Filtration rates were slower for NY, PC, and PVDF filters. Moreover, MCE, NY, PES, and PVDF yielded lower DNA amounts than other filters. Importantly, the CA filter exhibited the lowest variance (38-39%) and the highest determination coefficients (R2 = 0.92-0.96), indicating superior performance. These findings suggest that the CA filter is the most suitable for ddPCR quantification of marine protists, offering quick filtration and reliable reproducibility.

실외에서 발생되는 폐 담배필터의 분해특성 (The degradation characteristics of waste cigarette filter in outdoor)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the degradation characteristics of waste cigarette filters under 0, 5, 10, and 15cm in depth from soil surface by environmental conditions. Weather was the most important factor during degradation of waste cigarette filters in this study. Bulking of cellulose acetate filaments exposed on soil surface was observed after 2 months, but the form of filter was kept up after 12 months. The treated cigarette filters in soil landfill revealed a little different degradation pattern at each soil landfill depth, The sample in 5cm depth of soil was more degraded then other site. A fluffy appearance of cellulose acetate filaments in the control filter rods was also developed more strongly in soil landfill then on soil surface. From the observation of waste cigarette filters by scanning electron microscopy, much degradation of the fiber of waste cigarette filters could be ascertained in soil landfill. The weight of waste cigarette filters under 5cm from soil surface was reduced about 50%, and the tensile strength of the samples in soil surface and under 5cm from soil surface were reduced 66.0% and 92.4%, respectively. The microbial experiment date that the viable cell number in microbial population and cellulolytic microorganisms showed the maximum values under 5cm from soil surface, suggest that microorganisms in soil play an important roll in the degradation of acetate cigarette filters.

필터소재에 따른 담배필터의 생분해성 비교 (Study on bio-degradation of cigarette filter rods with filter materials)

  • This work investigated biodegradability for the cellulose acetate, carbon dual, paper and web used to cigarette filter materials by soil test. Also, because of demanded a lot of the time and effort in case of soil test, the possibility of biodegradation by enzyme was studied. The evaluation of degradation for the filter materials by soil test was examined with the naked eye, electron microscopy and weight loss. The biodegradability according to the filter materials was represented in the order of paper > web > carbon dual > cellulose acetate without relating to the evaluation methods. Experiment of biodegradability by the cellulase(E C 3.2.1.4, Trichoderma viride) among the several biodegradability enzymes was demanded reaction time of the $5\~10$ hours and represented the same result with that of soil test.

한국산 Zeolite의 필터첨가제로서의 흡착효과에 관하여 (A Study on the Adsorption Effect of Korean zeolite "Clinoptilolite" as Cigarette Cavity Filter Additive.)

  • Zeolite의 일종인 clinoptilolite를 담배필터 첨가제로 활용하는 연구를 하였다. 입자크기 30 $\pm$ 5 A.S.T.M. mesh의 clinoptilolite와 charcoal 1 : 1 (V/V)로 혼합하여 삼중필터의 cavity부분에 충진했을 때, 1. Cellulose acetate필터에 비하여 nicotine 35%, T.P..M.22%를 감소시켰으며, 2. Gas phase중 n-amyl alcohol등 aliphatic compound와 furan등 cyclic compound를 cellulose acetate filter에 비하여 60$\pm$ 5%를 감소시켰다. 3. Charcoal의 removal efficiency는 40-50% clinoptilolite의 10-20%에 비하여 큰 값이였지만 charcoal은 분자량이 큰 aromatic compound의 removal efficiency가 50$\pm$5%로서 aliphatic compound의 removal efficiency 40: 5%보다 큰 값이였음에 비하여 clinoptilolite는 alcohol과 ketone계열의 분자갹이 작은 화합물의 removal efficiency가 15-20%로 cyclic compounds의 removal efficiency 10-15%에 비하여 보다 큰 값이었다. 이 두물질의 gas phase성분의 흡착기능은 상호 보완적임을 알 수 있었다.

  • 대량발효 후 미세여과막과 MWCO 100K, 50K의 한외여과막을 이용한 막분리시스템을 적용하여 MTGase를 분리한 결과 pore size 1.6, $0.7\;{\mu}m$의 cellulose fiber 재질의 예비여과막과 $0.45\;{\mu}m$ cellulose acetate재질의 미세여과막을 이용하여 얻어진 분리액을 MWCO 100K와 50K를이용하여 농축시킨 결과 enzyme의 농도가 1.29 units/ml, 효소 비활성도는 약 0.2 units/mg protein 으로 나타났으며 초기 배양액에 비해 3.7배의 농축효과를 보였다.

탄소복합필터의 triacetin 함량 분석 (Determination of Triacetin Contents in the Activated Carbon Filter)

  • Glycerol triacetate(triacetin) is the currently used common plasticizer in the making filters from cellulose acetate tow. For the mono acetate filter, the determination of triacetin contents is already established by CORESTA recommended method (No. 59). But unfortunately, the analytical method of triacetin in the activated carbon filter have not reported so far. In this study, it was established the analytical method of carbon filter's triacetin contents at various extraction conditions, bath ratio and internal standard materials. The confidential level appeared above $95\%$ when the extraction time, ISTD material and bath ratio was 3 hours, tripropionin and below 500 mg activated carbon / 50 $m\ell$ ethanol, respectively. Also, in the distribution of triacetin with filter materials in activated carbon filters, the triacetin amount was the most contained in activated carbon. Therefore, this method can be applied to the determination of triacetin contents in the activated carbon filter.

담배꽁초 재활용을 위한 필터 선별공정 개발 및 셀룰로오스 아세테이트의 추출 (Development of Filter Sorting Process for Cigarette Butt Recycling and Extraction of Cellulose Acetate)

  • 본 연구에서는 수계 미세플라스틱의 주오염원으로 보고되고 있는 버려진 담배꽁초로부터 필터를 선별하고, 필터의 원료물질인 셀룰로오스 아세테이트를 고순도 추출하여 효율적인 재활용공정을 개발하고자 하였다. 담배꽁초로부터 필터 선별 공정을 습식과 건식으로 구분하여 각 공정별 최적 선별조건을 도출하고, 선별된 필터로부터 셀룰로오스 아세테이트를 추출하여 재활용 가능성 및 선별공정별 효율을 평가하였다. 습식교반선별 인자로는 고액비, 교반속도, 교반온도를 고려하였다. 습식교반선별 효율은 고액비 1:45, 교반속도 200rpm, 교반온도 50℃에서 선별효율이 46.21%로 가장 높게 분석되었다. 건식풍력선별 인자는 함수율과 체류시간을 고려하였다. 필터 선별효율은 함수율 20%, 체류시간 5분에서 선별효율이 57.10%로 가장 높았다. 셀룰로오스 아세테이트의 회수율은 습식교반선별에 의한 필터에서 48.68%, 건식풍력선별공정에서 47.68%로 두 공정의 차이는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 건식풍력선별의 선별효율이 57.10%로 습식교반선별에 비하여 10.89% 높으며, 습식교반선별의 경우 교반 후에 발생하는 폐수와 폐기물, 교반 및 가열 시 필요한 에너지를 고려하였을 때 건식풍력선별이 환경 및 에너지 요구량 측면에서 더 유리한 공정으로 판단된다.
