  • Recently the solution-based thin film technology has often been treated in the field of device fabrication owing to easy process and convenience for the development of various semiconductor devices and sensors. We deposited on glass substrate single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs)/silane hybrid thin films by multiple spray-coating which is one of solution-based processes, and examined their electrical response for humidity. Generally silane binders which are often mixed in carbon nanotube (CNT) solution to adhere CNTs to substrate well form easily each own functionalized group on the surface of CNTs after they are hardened by way of the hydrolysis reaction. In this work, we investigated how silane binders (TEOS (tetraethoxy silane), MTMS (methyltrimethoxysilane) and VTMS (vinyltrimethoxysilane)) in CNT thin films make effect to their electrical response on humidity. As the result, we found that the resistance in the samples using TEOS was changed dramatically while it was almost invariant in the samples using MTMS and VTMS for increasing humidity.

  • In recent years, new materials and technology has been developed using single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as an alternative to indium tin oxide (ITO) to fulfil the requirements towards novel technological drive. These technologies offer products having a broad range of conductivity, excellent transparency, neutral color tone, good adhesion, abrasion resistance as well as mechanical robustness. In addition, SWCNTs can be solution processed to replace the sophisticated vacuum techniques at high temperatures. In the present work, transparent conducting films were fabricated from the purified SWCNTs. Dispersion of purified SWCNTs was accomplished in 1,2-dichlorobenzene without using surfactants or polymers following ultrasonic process. We achieved coating of nanotubes film on poly ether suiphone (PES) for an average sheet resistance ~110 ${\Omega}/{\Box}$ of optical transmittance 80% at 550 nm. Conventional spin coating method was followed to fabricate films from the purified and dispersed nanotubes solution. The results will be presented.

  • In this research, single walled carbon nano-tube film was manufactured with spray coating method on glass for application as transparent heat element. SWNTs solution to be used for spraying is obtained by dispersion of 0.01 wt% purified SWNTs in dimethylformamide (DMF) solution through ultrasonification and centrifugation. The transmittance and sheet resistance of SWNTs film were determined by the number of spray injection. Manufactured SWNTs film will have sheet resistance range of $200\;\Omega/\square-900\;\Omega/\square$ at transmittance range of 70-90 %. Heat generation characteristic of SWNTs film was measured by applying constant DC voltage of 15V. The result confirmed that SWNTs film with sheet resistance of $200\;\Omega/\square$ reaches surface temperature of $80^{\circ}C$ within several seconds. In addition, PET coating film was coated on top of the SWNTs film by using laminator in order to solve weak adhesive property of the spray coated SWNTs film on the substrate as well as to maintain its electrical and optical properties.

  • We investigated the effects of Co doping on the NO gas sensing characteristics of ZnO-carbon nanotube (ZnO-CNT) layered composites fabricated by coaxial coating of single-walled CNTs with ZnO using pulsed laser deposition. Structural examinations clearly confirmed a distinct nanostructure of the CNTs coated with ZnO nanoparticles of an average diameter as small as 10 nm and showed little influence of doping 1 at.% Co into ZnO on the morphology of the ZnO-CNT composites. It was found from the gas sensing measurements that 1 at.% Co doping into ZnO gave rise to a significant improvement in the response of the ZnO-CNT composite sensor to NO gas exposure. In particular, the Co-doped ZnO-CNT composite sensor shows a highly sensitive and fast response to NO gas at relatively low temperatures and even at low NO concentrations. The observed significant improvement of the NO gas sensing properties is attributed to an increase in the specific surface area and the role as a catalyst of the doped Co elements. These results suggest that Co-doped ZnOCNT composites are suitable for use as practical high-performance NO gas sensors.

  • Conductive microcellular foams consisted of polystrene (PS) and polydopamine-coated carbon nanotube (PDA-CNT) were prepared via high internal phase emulsion (HIPE) polymerization and their morphology and electrical conductivity were investigated. CNT as a conductive nanofiller was modified to PDA-CNT by coating with hydrophilic PDA on the surface of CNT to increase aqueous phase dispersion and emulsion stability. It was possible to prepare the HIPEs having higher PDA-CNT content and the resultant foams having improved conductivity due to its good dispersion. The foams showed the morphology of interconnected cell structure. As PDA-CNT content increased, yield stress and storage modulus increased and cell size reduced. The PDA-CNT content showing electrical percolation threshold was ca. 0.58 wt% and the conductivity at PDA-CNT content of 5 wt% was increased to $10^{-3}S/m$.

  • BNNTs (Boron nitride nanotubes) is an analogue of CNTs (Carbon Nanotubes) in terms of lattice structure. In BNNTs, a boron atom forms sp2 hybridized bonding with three nitrogen atoms, and so does a nitrogen with three boron atoms in the honeycomb structure. Its innovative properties, such as high thermal conductivity, neutron shielding capability, superb oxidation resistance at $900^{\circ}C$, excellent chemical resistance, and superior mechanical properties are advantageous for a wide range of applications, especially for electric device packages, neutron shielding, protective coating materials, and functional composites. In this paper, boron nitride nanotube synthesis, properties and application are reviewed.

  • Bundles of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNTs) were grown using catalytic layer supported by self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). Amine-SAMs were introduced on SiO2/Si substrate (SAMs/Si) there then iron nanoclusters solution was dropped on it through spin-coating (Fe/SAMs/Si). This catalytic template was used to grow CNTs and the synthesized carbon material was confirmed the bundles of dense SWCNTs with incorporation of ca.1% nitrogen. The SAMs has played an active role to support catalytic layer and also acted as a source of N-dope onto SWCNTs in CVD.

  • We present a simple process for the fabrication of high performance transparent conducting films that contain single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) noncovalently coated with an ultrathin titania layer. The hydrophobic interactions between nanotube surfaces and the acetylacetone (acac) ligands used to stabilize the $TiO_2$ precursor provide an interesting alternative method for noncovalently coating the SWCNTs with a titania layer. The ultrathin titania layer on SWCNTs prevented the oxidation of functionalized SWCNTs at high temperatures, and protected against water molecule absorption.

  • Here we describe the formation of a self-assembled film of thin multiwalled carbon Nanotubes(t-MWNT) modified with hydroxy groups through hydrogen peroxide treatment. Morphologies of t-MWNT films could be controlled by the various coating method, such as filtering, drop casting, spraying method, etc. The results show that on densification of the CNT suspension during drying, multiple hydroxy group-modified MWNTs can be self-assembled through strong surface hydrogen bond interaction while MWNTs usually exist an entangled state in the film. The interaction between t-MWNT was illustrated from Raman spectrum of spray coated films.
