Biomass is considered an alternative energy which can solve an greenhouse gas problem like $CO_2$ which is a major contributor to global warming. The biomass can be converted to various energy sources through thermochemical conversion. In this study, a continuous gasifier was engineered for a wood biomass gasification. The biomass was used a waste wood. The experiments of $CO_2$ gasification were achieved as the gasification temperature, moisture content and input $CO_2$ concentration. The results showed that the yield of producer gas increased with an increasing the gasification temperature. The amount of the light tar increased due to the decomposition of gravimetric tar by the thermal cracking, and the char was confirmed pore development through the SEM analysis. The CO concentration was increased with an increased input $CO_2$ concentration from Boudouard reaction. Through the parametric screening studies, the hydrogen and carbon monoxide concentration were 32.91% and 48.33% at the optimal conditions of this test rig.

Amidst escalating global warming fueled by indiscriminate fossil fuel consumption, concerted efforts are underway worldwide to mitigate atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) levels. Electrochemical CO2 reduction technology is recognized as a promising and environmentally friendly approach to convert CO2 into valuable hydrocarbon compounds, deemed essential for achieving carbon neutrality. Copper, among the various materials used as CO2 reduction electrodes, is known as the sole metal capable of generating C2+ compounds. However, low conversion efficiency and selectivity have hindered its widespread commercialization. This review highlights diverse research endeavors to address these challenges. It explores various studies focused on utilizing copper-based electrodes for CO2 reduction, offering insights into potential solutions for advancing this crucial technology.

In this study, ceria- based catalysts were prepared for dimethyl carbonate (DMC) synthesis and reaction conditions were evaluated for finding the optimal reaction route. In order to find optimal catalysts for DMC synthesis, calcination temperature and Cu(II) impregnation amount were evaluated. The oxidative carbonylation using methanol, carbon monoxide and oxygen and the direct synthesis using methanol and carbon dioxide were introduced for producing DMC. Following the law of Le Chatelier, the dehydration reaction was applied for enhancing the reactivity (methanol conversion) as removing water during the reaction. 2-cyanopyridine, as a chemical dehydration agent, was used. In the case of the oxidative carbonylation, methanol conversion rate increased from 15.1% to 38.7% and the DMC selectivity increased from 0% to 98.8%. In the case of the direct synthesis, methanol conversion rate increased from 1.0% to 77.8% and the DMC selectivity increased from 41.2% to 100.0%.

The kinetics and the mechanism for the selective oxidation of ethylene on the supported monolithic silver catalyst were experimentally investigated in a fixed bed tubular reactor. The formation rates of ethylene oxide and carbon dioxide were measured at the atmospheric pressure with various combinations of partial pressures of ethylene and oxygen at temperature range of $225-300^{\circ}C$, conversion with 1.2-7.5 %, and then the mechanism of the selective oxidation of ethylene was verified. Their formation rates fitted with the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechnism. The ethylene oxide and carbon dioxide are produced by reation of adsorbed ethylene with monoatomic oxygen adsorbed on the active sites of Ag-surface, and their formation rate equation are expressed as : $R_{EO}={\frac{k_1K_0{^{1/2}}K_EK_SP_{02}{^{3/2}}P_E}{(1+{\sqrt{K_0P_{02}}}+K_EP_E+K_PP_P)^2(1+{\sqrt{K_SP_{02}})^2}}$$R_C={\frac{k_2K_0{^3}K_EK_S{^{7/2}}P_{02}{^{13/2}}P_E}{(1+{\sqrt{K_0P_{02}}}+K_EP_E+K_PP_P)^7(1+{\sqrt{K_SP_{02}})^7}}$ The activation energies of ethylene oxide and dioxide and carbon dioxide formations can be estimated to be 12.25 and 17.85 Kcal/mol, respectively.

In this study, the experiment of CO production was performed using carbon dioxide and coal. The synthesis characteristics of CO gas was investigated using the chemical activation method of KOH. The preparation process has been optimized through the analysis of experimental variables such as activating chemical agents to coal ratio, the flow rate of gas and reaction temperature during $CO_2$ conversion reaction. Without the catalyst of KOH, the 66.7% of $CO_2$ conversion was obtained at the conditions of $T=950^{\circ}C$ and $CO_2$ flow rate of 300 cc/min. On the other hand, the 98.1% of $CO_2$ conversion was obtained using catalyst of KOH at same conditions. It was found that the feed ratio(Coal : KOH = 4 : 1) had better $CO_2$ conversion and CO selectivity than other feed ratios.
The objective of this study is to investigate biogeochemical processes to sequester $CO_2$and metals utilizing metal-rich fly ash (MRFA). Microbial conversion of $CO_2$into sparingly soluble carbonate minerals has been studied using MRFA under different $pCO_2$and different bicarbonate concentrations. Scaling from test tube to fermentation vessels (up to 4-L) using metal-reducing bacteria and MRFA has proved successful at sequestering carbon dioxide and metals. $CO_2$sequestration via precipitation processes using MRFA may complement the process of $CO_2$capture from fossil fuel plants while potentially stabilizing fly ash wastes.

Land use and land cover change (LULCC) due to human activities directly affects natural systems and contributes to changes in carbon exchange and climate through a range of feedbacks. How land use and land cover changes affect carbon exchanges can be assessed using multiyear measurement data from micrometeorological flux towers. The objective of the research is to assess the impact of land use and land cover change on carbon exchange in a heterogeneous cropland area. The heterogeneous cropland area in Haenam, South Korea is also subjected to a land conversion due to rural development. Therefore, the impact of the change in land utilization in this area on carbon exchange should be assessed to monitor the cycle of energy, water, and carbon dioxide between this key agricultural ecosystem and the atmosphere. We are currently conducting the research based on 10 years flux measurement data from Haenam Koflux site and examining the LULCC patterns in the same temporal scale to evaluate whether the LULCC in the surrounding site and the resulting heterogeneity (or diversity) have a significant impact on carbon exchange. Haenam cropland is located near the southwestern coast of the Korean Peninsula with land cover types consisting of scattered rice paddies and various croplands (seasonally cultivated crops). The LULCC will be identified and quantified using remote sensing satellite data and then analyzing the relationships between LULCC and flux footprint of $CO_2$ from tower flux measurement. We plan to calculate annual flux footprint climatology map from 2003 to 2012 from the 10 years flux observation database. Eventually, these results will be used to quantify how the system's effective performance and reserve capacity contribute to moving the system towards more sustainable configuration. Broader significance of this research is to understand the co-evolution of the Haenam agricultural ecosystem and its societal counterpart which are assumed to be self-organizing hierarchical open systems.
Conventional nickel-based catalyst processes used for dry reforming reactions have high activation temperatures and problems such as carbon deposition and metal sintering on the active sites of the catalyst surface. In this study, the characteristics of butane dry reforming reaction were investigated by using DBD plasma combined with catalytic process and compared with existing catalyst alone process. The physical and chemical properties of the catalysts were investigated using a surface area & pore size analyzer, XRD, SEM and TEM. Using $10%Ni/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ at $580^{\circ}C$, in the case of the catalyst+plasma process, the conversion of carbon dioxide and butane were improved by about 30% than catalyst alone process. When the catalyst+plasma process, the conversion of carbon dioxide and butane and the hydrogen production concentration are enhanced by the influence of various active species generated by the plasma. In addition, it was found that the particle size of the catalyst is decreased by the plasma in the reaction process, and the degree of dispersion of the catalyst is increased to improve the efficiency.
The reaction mechanism of methane dry reforming has been investigated using an arc-jet reactor. The effects of input power, $CO_2/CH_4$ and added $O_2$ were investigated by product analysis, including CO, $H_2$, $C_{2}H_{Y}$ and $C_{3}H_{Y}$ as well as $CH_4$ and $CO_2$. In the process, input electrical power activated the reactions between $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ significantly. The increased feed ratio of the $CO_2$ to $CH_4$ in the dry reforming does not affect to the $CH_4$ conversion. but we could observe increase in CO selectivity together with decreasing $H_2$ generation. Added oxygen can also increase not only CO selectivity but also $CH_4$ conversion. However, hydrogen selectivity was decreased significantly due to a increased $H_{2}O$ formation.

In the near future, with the urgent requirement of environmental protection, hydrogen based energy system is essential. However, at the present time, most of the hydrogen is produced by reforming, which still produces carbon dioxide. This study proposes a high-power electrolytic hydrogen production system based on solid oxide electrolysis cell with no harmful emissions to the environment. Besides that, the parametric study and optimization are also carried to examine the effect of individual parameter and their combination on system efficiency. The result shows that the increase in steam conversion rate and hydrogen molar fraction in incoming stream reduces system efficiency because of the fuel heater power increase. Besides, the higher Faraday efficiency does not always result a higher system efficiency.
