  • Recently, Application of composite materials are increased in transport area for weight reduction. Also, Related technical developments have been implemented actively at domestic and abroad. In particular, The carbon fiber has high strength and ultra light property higher than stainless steel, aluminum, GFRP as Eco-friendly material. Carbon fiber contribute to improving the environmental effect such as fuel saving, expansion of loadage, reducing the exhaustion of carbon dioxide through the weight reduction of transport area. In addition, The carbon fiber is applied to the ship in the area of race yacht, luxury cruise boat as weight reduction and high added-value materials, but there is limited application for general boat because price of carbon fiber is very expensive. For the weight reduction of general boat hull, being used as structure materials, glass fiber and carbon fiber are applied to hull with form of hybrid composite materials, but application of domestic and research for development are incomlete. In this study, An evaluations of mechanical strength property and fatigue strength are performed on composite materials by hybrid weaving of glass fiber and carbon fiber and composite materials forming method by hybrid forming.

  • Supercritical fluid technology was applied to the regeneration of industrial catalyst contaminated with toxic materials. The regeneration process of activated loaded with phenol was proposed, then the adsorphon tower was packed with the activated carbon-bed. Phenol diffuses into supercritical carbon dioxide(SCC) through the micro-pore and voldge of the activated carbon. The saturated solubility of phenol in SCC depended on the density of SCC varing with temperature and pressure conditions. Therefore, the fasile phase equilibrium calculation model of dxpanded liquid One was proposed, and equilibrium solubility of phenol in SCC was calculated using the model theoretically. The regeneration mechanism of activated carbon was analysed by degree of saturation of phenol and diffusion in SCC. The solubility prediction was more satisfactory for the wide range of SCC density than the dense gas model and the desorption of phenol depended on the degree of saturation of phenol in SCC.

  • Hydrogen could be produced from any substance containing hydrogen atoms, such as water, hydrocarbon (HC) fuels, acids or bases. Hydrocarbon fuels couold be converted to hydrogen-rich gas through reforming process for hydrogen production. Even though fuel cell have high efficiency with pure hydrogen from gas tank, it is more beneficial to generate hydrogen from city gas (mainly methane) in residential application such as domestic or office environments. Thus hydrogen is generated by reforming process using hydrocarbon. Unfortunately, the reforming process for hydrogen production is accompanied with unavoidable impurities. Impurities such as CO, $CO_2$, $H_2S$, $NH_3$, and $CH_4$ in hydrogen could cause negative effects on fuel cell performance. Those effects are kinetic losses due to poisoning of electrode catalysts, ohmic losses due to proton conductivity reduction including membrane and catalyst ionomer layers, and mass transport losses due to degrading catalyst layer structure and hydrophobic property. Hydrogen produced from reformer eventually contains around 73% of $H_2$, 20% or less of $CO_2$, 5.8% of less of $N_2$, or 2% less of $CH_4$, and 10ppm or less of CO. Most impurities are removed using pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process to get high purity hydrogen. However, high purity hydrogen production requires high operation cost of reforming process. The effect of carbon dioxide on fuel cell performance was investigated in this experiment. The performance of PEM fuel cell was investigated using current vs. potential experiment, long run (10 hr) test, and electrochemical impedance measurement when the concentrations of carbon dioxide were 10%, 20% and 30%. Also, the concentration of impurity supplied to the fuel cell was verified by gas chromatography (GC).

  • Activated carbon is proposed as a new application of wastepaper recycling other than the paper-making. Waste kraft bag is considered to be a suitable raw material for activated carbon because of its low ash content. Small pellets of wastepaper squeezed out from the continuous kneader were carbonized in a nitrogen atmosphere and activated using carbon dioxide. The BET specific surface areas of activated carbon prepared from waste kraft bag was $1,285m^{2}/g$, which is higher than commercially available activated carbons. The activated carbon prepared from wastepaper has a well-developed porous structure, particularly in mesopore and macropore ranges. As a result, activated carbon with iodine adsorption capacity of 1,400 mg/g was obtained from waste kraft bag. In this paper, adsorption amount of Bisphenol A (BPA) was determined to investigate adsorbability of activated carbon from waste kraft bag. Adsorption measurements were on solutions ranging from $0.1{mu}g/L\;to\;100mg/L$. The activated carbon from waste kraft bag gave higher BPA adsorbabilities over a wide range, compared with commercially available activated carbons.

  • Aqueous solutions of chlorobenzene and chlorinated phenols were exposed to 200kHz ultrasound with a power of $6.0W/\textrm{cm}^2$ per unit volume on sonochemical reactor under ambient temperature and pressure conditions. The concentration of chlorobenzene and chlorinated phenols decreased with ultrasound, indicating first-order kinetics. Degradation rate constants are calculated from the slope of plots. The order of the rate constants is as follows : 2-chlorphenol(2-CP)$\leq$ 4-chlorophenol(4-CP)<3-chlorophenol(3-CP)$5.63~9.96({\times}10^{-2})min^{-1}$ under argon. The degradation was suppressed by the addition of t-BuOH and the suppressed yield was agreed with their reactivity for hydroxy radical. The main products of these systems were formic acid, acetic acid, small amount of methane and inorganic carbon forms as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide in sonolysis of chlorinated phenols, and also these results agreed with change of TOC.

  • The motivation for this work was the potential of hydrophobic amino acids such as glycine, L-alanine, and L-valine to be applied as thermodynamic hydrate inhibitors (THIs). To confirm their capabilities in inhibiting the formation of gas hydrates, three-phase (liquid-hydrate-vapor) equilibrium conditions for carbon dioxide hydrate formation in the presence of 0.1 to 3.0 mol% amino acid solutions were determined in the range of 273.05 to 281.45 K and 14.1 to 35.2 bar. From quantitative analyses, the inhibiting effects of the amino acids (on a mole concentration basis) decreased in the following order: L-valine > L-alanine > glycine. The application of amino acids as THIs has several potential advantages over conventional methods. First, the environmentally friendly nature of amino acids as compared to conventional inhibitors means that damage to ecological systems and the environment could be minimized. Second, the loss of amino acids in recovery process would be considerably reduced because amino acids are non-volatile. Third, amino acids have great potential as a model system in which to investigate the inhibition mechanism on the molecular level, since the structure and chemical properties of amino acids are well understood.

  • This study applied long-term wind speed data from Penghu and Dongjidao weather stations to simulate the wind energy production for eight onshore and one offshore wind farms at Penghu Island, Taiwan by a commercial software package, Wind Atlas Application Program (WAsP). In addition, the RET Screen software suite was also applied to analyze economic characteristics of these nine wind farms (WFs). The results show that the capacity factors (CFs) of the nine wind farms mentioned above are in the range of 44.5% to 49.1%. In addition, utilizing 1.8-MW wind turbines (WTs) for all onshore WFs was the most feasible selection among the four potential types of WTs (600, 900, 1,800 and 3,600 kW) considered. 3-MW WTs selected for the offshore WF can produce the most wind energy and the smallest wake loss among the three possible types of WTs (1, 2 and 3MW). As a consequence of implementing these WFs, the emission of about 680,977 tons carbon dioxide ($tCO_2$) into the local atmosphere in Penghu Island annually could be avoided. Finally, based on the payback periods achieved, the order of implementation of the considered WFs can be identified more clearly. Longmen WF should be the first priority, and the next one should be SiyuWF and so on. Besides, this study provides much useful information for WF planning on Penghu Island.

  • This article presents a methodology for the monitoring of air pollution. All over the world, the interest in the environment has been continuously increasing. Unfortunately, much of this interest is due to emerging problems, such as the greenhouse effect and climate change. For this reason, research into carbon dioxide, which causes the greenhouse effect, is progressing rapidly. This article presents a method of measuring the level of carbon dioxide and other substances in the air through the utilization of mobile-networking base stations and measured data. First of all, sensors are attached at the appropriate position of the mobile-networking base stations. These sensors will measure the air quality in their respective positions, and send sensor data to an urban management center via network gateways and data-collecting systems. The measured data can be used for various purposes. In general, it can be used to measure the air quality, which can then be used as a basis for urban planning. The method described herein utilizes airpollution sensors that are attached to the base stations in different locations and at varying heights. The data obtained hereby will be applicable in many fields. At this time this is simply a methodology, however we hope that it will lead to a practical application.

  • The amount of natural gas that is used on a worldwide scale is continuously going up. Natural gas and acidic components, such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, cause significant corrosion damage to transmission lines and equipment in various quantities. One of the fundamental processes in natural gas processing is the separation of acid gases, among which the safety and environmental needs due to the high toxicity of hydrogen sulfide and also to prevent wear and corrosion of pipelines and gas transmission and distribution equipment, the necessity of sulfide separation Hydrogen is more essential than carbon dioxide and other compounds. Given this problem's significance, this endeavor aims to extend the lifespan of the transmission lines' pipes for gas and oil. Zinc oxide nanoparticles made from the environmentally friendly source of Allium scabriscapum have been employed to accomplish this crucial purpose. This is a simple, safe and cheap synthesis method compared to other methods, especially chemical methods. The formation of zinc oxide nanoparticles was shown by forming an absorption peak at a wavelength of about 355 nm using a spectrophotometric device and an X-ray diffraction pattern. The size and morphology of synthesized nanoparticles were determined by scanning and transmission electron microscope, and the range of size changes of nanoparticles was determined by dynamic light scattering device.
