변형률 모드시험방법의 특성 및 응용 (A Study on the Characteristics and Applications of a Strain Modal Testing Method)

  • A strain modal testing method has been applied to a cantilever beam to investigate the characteristics of the method. By applying the method to an analytical and an experimental system, it was shown that accurate modal parameters can be estimated from the FRFs using a current modal parameter extraction algorithm. The modal parameters estimated by the method are more accurate than those by the conventional method which uses accelerometers when the tested system is of light weight. The strain response for a given excitation force and the force which causes the response can be predicted using the measured strain FRFS.

다중화된 FBG센서를 이용한 중공 내민보의 정적 거동 분석 (Static Behavior of Hollow Cantilever Beam Using Multiplexed FBG Sensors)

  • 본 연구는 광섬유 브래그 격자(fiber Bragg grating, FBG)센서를 이용하여 캔틸레버의 수직 처짐을 산정하고 이를 통하여 횡방향 하중을 받는 말뚝기초 거동 분석을 위한 사전연구를 수행하는데 목적이 있다. 말뚝기초를 모형화한 길이 1.7 m의 정방 중공 형강 내민보를 실험실에 설치하고 실험체 측면의 상하부 표면에 4개의 센서로 다중화 된 2쌍의 FBG 센서를 설치하였다. 결과 비교를 위해 FBG 센서가 설치된 동일 위치에 전기식 게이지를 설치하였다. 하중은 고정 단에서 1.47m 지점에 엑츄에이터를 통한 변위 제어 방법으로 재하 하였다. 실험을 통해 측정된 FBG 센서의 파장변화로부터 변형률과 곡률을 산정하였고 기하학적 처짐-곡률관계와 회귀분석을 통하여 처짐을 유추하였다. FBG 센서를 통해 산정된 변형률과 처짐을 각각 전기식 게이지의 변형률 측정값, 이론 처짐값과 비교분석 하였다. 측정된 FBG 센서와 전기식 게이지의 변형률은 근사한 결과를 나타내었으며, 이론적으로 산출한 처짐과 FBG 센서로부터 도출한 처짐도 우수한 상관관계를 보였다. 실험결과를 통하여 FBG 센서를 도입한 말뚝 기초 거동분석을 성공적으로 이루어내기 위해서는 FBG 센서로 측정 가능한 한계 변위의 산정 및 증대 방안이 필요하며, 센서 오작동시 대처 방법에 대한 추가 연구가 필요하다고 판단된다.

Application of Phase-Shifting Method in Speckle Interferomtery to Measurement of Micro-Scale Displacement

  • Speckle interferometry with phase-shifting method has been applied to measurement of micro-scale displacement through optical signal processing. Four-step phase-shifting method by PZT is used to measure out-of-plane displacement in spot-welded cantilever and results of optical experiments are comparable to those of FEM. Phase-shifting method using Fourier transform by PZT is applied to measurement of in-plane displacement on rectangular steel plate with a circular hole. The results of optical experiment agree well with theoretical calculation. New phase-shifting method in speckle interferometry has been implemented with a quarter wave plate. In-plane displacement of specimen is measured by the new phase-shifting method. Results of optical experiment show that the quarter wave plate can be used for phase-shifting method that is cheap and easy to use in speckle interferometry.

스트레인 게이지와 반사형 광탄성법을 이용한 굽힘을 받는 외팔보 시편 구멍 주위의 응력측정 (Stress Measurement around a Circular Role in a Cantilever Beam under Bending Moment Using Strain Gage and Reflective Photoelasticity)

  • 기계구조물 설계시 파손이나 갑작스런 붕괴를 방지하기 위하여 응력집중을 실험적으로 측정해야 할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 중앙에 원형구멍이 있는 외팔보 시편의 응력집중계수를 스트레인 게이지와 광탄성법으로 측정하였다. 스트레인 게이지법에서는 구멍 주위에 3개의 스트레인 게이지를 부착하여 측정된 값으로부터 외삽법을 사용하여 구멍에 인접한 지점에서 최대 변형률을 추정하였다. 광탄성법에서는 두 가지 측정법, 즉 배비넷-솔레일 보상법과 위상이동법을 이용하여 응력분포를 측정하였다. 스트레인 게이지와 광탄성법에 의한 측정값들을 서로 실험오차 이내로 근접하였다.

후판 용접부의 횡균열 발생 방지에 관한 연구(Ⅱ) (A Study on Prevention of Weld Transverse Crack for Thick Plate(Ⅱ))

  • Welding is widely applicable and reliable process and is mainly adopted for fabricating heavy structures. Recently, weld metal transverse cracks in butt and fillet weld joint is a serious problem, and they must be eliminated for improving weld joint reliability. The weld metal transverse crack susceptibility of butt and fillet joint was carried out by cantilever type tensile crack testing jig and CTS test. In this view of point, this study investigated the potential factors for weld metal transverse crack. The main results obtained were as follows: 1. The content o fdiffusible hydrogen in weld metal played an important role for weld metal transverse cracks. 2. From cantilever type tensile crack tests, it was pointed out that the higher the diffusible hydrogen content and tensile restraint, the more susceptible to weld metal transverse craking. 3. The TSN(thermal severity number) and diffusible hydrogen were important factors for determining weld metal transverse cracks in fillet weld joints.

횡-비틀림 연성진동하는 L형 단면 보의 크랙 검출에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Detection of Crack for Coupled Bending-torsional Vibrations of L-beams)

  • In this paper, the natural frequency of a cracked cantilever L-beams with a coupled bending and torsional vibrations is investigate by theory and experiment. In addition, a method for detection of crack in a cantilever L-beams is presented based on natural frequency measurements. The governing differential equations of a cracked L-beam are derived via Hamilton's principle. The two coupled governing differential equations are reduced to one sixth order ordinary differential equation in terms of the flexural displacement. Futher, the dynamic transfer matrix method is used for calculation of a exact natural frequencies of L-beams. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during vibrations. In this study, the differences between the actual and predicted positions and sizes of crack are less than about 10 % and 39.5 % respectively.

Ambient vibration testing of Berta Highway Bridge with post-tension tendons

  • The aim of this study is to determine the dynamic characteristics of long reinforced concrete highway bridges with post-tension tendons using analytical and experimental methods. It is known that the deck length and height of bridges are affected the dynamic characteristics considerably. For this purpose, Berta Bridge constructed in deep valley, in Artvin, Turkey, is selected as an application. The Bridge has two piers with height of 109.245 m and 85.193 m, and the total length of deck is 340.0 m. Analytical and experimental studies are carried out on Berta Bridge which was built in accordance with the balanced cantilever method. Finite Element Method (FEM) and Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) which considers ambient vibration data were used in analytical and experimental studies, respectively. Finite element model of the bridge is created by using SAP2000 program to obtain analytical dynamic characteristics such as the natural frequencies and mode shapes. The ambient vibration tests are performed using Operational Modal Analysis under wind and human loads. Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition (EFDD) and Stochastic Subspace Identification (SSI) methods are used to obtain experimental dynamic characteristics like natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios. At the end of the study, analytical and experimental dynamic characteristic are compared with each other and the finite element model of the bridge was updated considering the material properties and boundary conditions. It is emphasized that Operational Modal Analysis method based on the ambient vibrations can be used safely to determine the dynamic characteristics, to update the finite element models, and to monitor the structural health of long reinforced concrete highway bridges constructed with the balanced cantilever method.

효율적 모우드시험을 위한 가진점과 응답측정점의 결정 (Determination of Excitation and Response Measurement Points for an Efficient Modal Testing)

  • 본 연구에서는 해석적 모우드해석 결과인 모우드 형상벡터를 이용하여 효과적 인 가진점과 응답측정점을 선정하는 기존의 두 방법에 대해 간략히 기술하고 비교검토 하고자 하였다. 첫번째 방법은 주파수응답함수에서 관심있는 모우드의 공진피크치와 관련있는 모우드상수를 이용하는 것이고, 두번째 방법은 계의 관심있는 모우드에 대한 동적 특성을 가장 잘 나타낼 수 있도록 특이치분해(singular value decomposition) 기 법을 적용함으로써 계의 대표자유도(master degree of freedom) 지점들을 선저하는 것 이다.우선 단순한 계인 외팔보아 알루미늄평판에 대해 두 방법을 적용함으로써 비 교검토하였고, 이 결과로부터 두번째 방법의 우수성을 확인할 수 있었다. 이에 따라 보다 복잡한 형상을 갖는 승용차의 부분구조물인 조향휠고정대 (deck cross member : DCM)에 대해서 두번째 방법을 이용하여 모우드 시험을 수행하고 그 결과에 대하여 논 하였다.

Design of a Bimorph Piezoelectric Energy Harvester for Railway Monitoring

  • Wireless sensor network is one of prospective methods for railway monitoring due to the long-term operation and low-maintenance performances. How to supply power to the wireless sensor nodes has drawn much attention recently. In railway monitoring, the idea of converting ambient vibration energy from vibration of railway track induced by passing trains to electric energy has made it a potential way for powering the wireless sensor nodes. In this paper, a bimorph cantilever piezoelectric energy harvester was designed based on a single degree-of-freedom model. Experimental test was also performed to validate the design. The first natural frequency of the bimorph piezoelectric energy harvester was decreased from 117.1 Hz to 65.2 Hz by adding 4 gram tip mass to the free end of the 8.6 gram energy harvester. In addition, the power generation of the piezoelectric energy harvester with 4 gram tip mass at resonant frequency was increased from 0.14 mW to 0.74 mW from $2.06m/s^2$ base excitation compared to stand-alone piezoelectric energy harvester without tip mass.

Experimental investigation on multi-mode vortex-induced vibration control of stay cable installed with pounding tuned mass dampers

  • In this paper, pounding tuned mass dampers (PTMDs) were designed to mitigate the multi-mode vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of stay cable utilizing the viscous-elastic material's energy-dissipated ability. The PTMD device consists of a cantilever metal rod beam, a metal mass block and a specially designed damping element covered with viscous-elastic material layer. Wind-tunnel experiment on VIV of stay cable model was set up to validate the effectiveness of the PTMD on multi-mode VIV mitigation of stay cable. By analyzing and comparing testing results of all testing cases, it could be verified that the PTMD with viscous-elastic pounding boundary can obviously mitigate the VIV amplitude of the stay cable. Moreover, the installed location and the design parameters of the PTMD device based on the controlled modes of the primary stay cable, would have a certain extent suppression on the other modal vibration of the stay cable, which means that the designed PTMDs are effective among a large band of frequency for the multi-mode VIV control of the stay cable.
