  • The purpose of this study is to explore the anti-smoking message effects and smoking status on smoking belief attributes. Based on the health behavior theories such as theory of reasoned action, health belief model, and social cognitive theory, three factors are selected to investigate the effects of anti-smoking campaign messages. The balance of benefits and barriers, self-efficacy, and social pressure are selected as independent variables. Three two-way ANOVA were conducted. Results showed that the main effect of social pressure were found with the social smoking attributes. Interaction effects were found on the nonsmoker-social pressure group and the non-smoker-two sided message group. It is found that nonsmokers accepted these two anti-smoking messages easily as compared to smoker groups. No main smoking status was found in this study; it is believed that smoking is a habitual that is not changed easily because attitude formation takes time. Results revealed that the two-sided message video releases and the social pressure video releases were favored by both smokers and nonsmokers. This study contributes the theoretical framework that can be transferred to the practices of anti-smoking campaign. Also, the researcher produced the televised stimuli which is not common in health message studies. By using the televised message material, the research tried to solve the validity problem which is common in experimental design.

  • This study evaluated the debate formats adopted in the 2002 Televised Presidential Debates. Presidential Debate Committee have sponsored Televised Presidential Debates during the official campaign period. However, it is not easy task for the Committee to coordinate each party's different interests, such as voters, candidates, and broadcasters. Presidential candidates tries to use the debates as one of their campaign strategies. Broadcasters argued limitations in programming and production process. Regardless of the obstacles, voters expect that the committee makes ideal debate formats. The committee adopted two new forms in the 2002 Debates. The committee allowed direct exchange between candidates as well as advance question preparation by candidate. The committee intends that candidates focus on discussing policy issues. Some studies found that the debate format to allow direct exchange between candidates makes candidates focus on image issues rather than policy issues. The findings of this study are similar to the previous studies'. The new debate formats adopted in 2002 televised presidential debates did not guarantee policy issue oriented discussion. The committee or scholars should evaluate the debate formats used in the presidential debates in order to establish ideal debate formats that gives important information for votes to determine their choice. It is necessary to systematically evaluate the debate formats of former presidential campaign for developing right debate formats.

  • Different from the past studies, in this study we postulates that the consumers' trust play an essential mediating role in the relationship between the two dimensions (eco-friendly manufacturing, eco-friendly campaign) of corporate environmental responsibility activities and the corporate image. Trust is conceptualized into three different forms: expertise-based trust, benevolence-based trust, and honesty-based trust. A model integrating two dimensions of corporate environmental responsibility, three forms of trust, and the corporate image is tested using data of 374 student and general consumers. The results of data analysis show that the eco-friendly manufacturing positively influences on the expert-based trust and the eco-friendly campaign positively influences on the benevolence-based trust. The Effects of Corporate Environmental Responsibility Activities on Corporate Image: Focusing on Dimension of Environmental Responsibility. However, eco-friendly manufacturing, eco-friendly campaign activities have a significant impact not on the honesty-based trust. Finally, our results indicate that the expert-based trust, the benevolence-based trust, and honesty-based trust have a significant influence on the corporate image. Thus, this study demonstrates that trust indeed plays a mediating role between corporate environmental responsibility and the corporate image.

  • In this study, we investigated the joint effects of message framing (profit vs. loss) and source type (celeb vs. general) on the persuasive effectiveness of mass media campaign to prevent drunk driving. As a result of conducting an experimental study on 218 motorcycle drivers in Vietnam, the main effects of message framing were not significant, but the interaction effect with the type of information source consistently influenced the attitude toward the advertisement, the drunk driving prevention, and the behavior intention Specifically, it is more persuasive to send a message by a general model rather than an celebrity when the loss framing method is used while it is more persuasive to send a message by a celebrity model than a general model when the gain framing is used. This study therefore provided valuable information and practical implication to the National Traffic Safety Committee of Vietnam for establishing a campaign to prevent drunk driving. In addition, this research also has valuable theoretical implication because it examines the effect of drunk driving prevention campaign on the attitude toward not only advertisement and the drunk driving prevention but also the behavior intention.

  • In this study, we investigated the effects of the spectral fitting window and absorption cross-section on the retrieval of the formaldehyde (HCHO) slant column density (SCD) from the direct-sun measurement of pandora spectrometer system using differential optical absorption spectroscopy (DOAS). Pandora Level 1 data observed at Yonsei University in Seoul from October 12 to 31, 2022 were used. The HCHO column density was retrieved under eight ranges including the spectral fitting window used in the Second Cabauw Intercomparison campaign for Nitrogen Dioxide measuring Instruments (CINDI-2) and seven types of absorption cross-section composition. The spectral fitting window was selected from 336.5 to 359.0 nm with minimum residual and HCHO SCD error. When the nitrogen dioxide (NO2) absorption cross-section at 220 K was added to the cross-section composition used in the CINDI-2 campaign among seven types, the residual and HCHO SCD error were the smallest and the HCHO column density wasstably retrieved. The average HCHO SCD with the highest retrieval accuracy and the values retrieved under other conditions differed from a minimum of 4% to a maximum of 40%.

  • The program of site survey in western China has been initiated by the National Astronomical Observatories of China(NAOC) toward large telescope facilities. The program is carried out in aspects of remote studies and local surveys. The preliminary results show that the eastern Pamirs and Ali area in Tibet may be the best candidates for further monitoring. The site survey group of NAOC will proceed to set up site testing stations on the selected sites and perform monitoring and campaign in 2005.
