Visual Tracking Control of Aerial Robotic Systems with Adaptive Depth Estimation

  • This paper describes a visual tracking control law of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) for monitoring of structures and maintenance of bridges. It presents a control law based on computer vision for quasi-stationary flights above a planar target. The first part of the UAV's mission is the navigation from an initial position to a final position to define a desired trajectory in an unknown 3D environment. The proposed method uses the homography matrix computed from the visual information and derives, using backstepping techniques, an adaptive nonlinear tracking control law allowing the effective tracking and depth estimation. The depth represents the desired distance separating the camera from the target.

  • This paper proposes a novel monocular vision-based SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) method using both position and orientation information of ceiling lamps. Conventional approaches used corner or line features as landmarks in their SLAM algorithms, but these methods were often unable to achieve stable navigation due to a lack of reliable visual features on the ceiling. Since lamp features are usually placed some distances from each other in indoor environments, they can be robustly detected and used as reliable landmarks. We used both the position and orientation of a lamp feature to accurately estimate the robot pose. Its orientation is obtained by calculating the principal axis from the pixel distribution of the lamp area. Both corner and lamp features are used as landmarks in the EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) to increase the stability of the SLAM process. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme works successfully in various indoor environments.

  • An Inspection system, composed of sensor head and controller, is presented which is a 3-D laser vision system using principles of optical triangulation for weld quality and chamfer quality. The sensor head id composed of laser diode, micro CCD camera, filter and several optical components. This systems can be used in welding bead and undercut inspection and chamfer quality inspection as well. It is mech more convenient to use and the inspection time is to be greatly shortened compared with conventional inspection method. Furthermore, data saved in controller can be used for statistics afterwards. This system has been begin used in Koje Shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries and the need is being increased.

  • Motion estimation using Full-Search(FS) and Block-Matching Algorithm(BMA) is often used in the case of moving object tracking by vision sensors.   • "Motion Stereo" is quite useful for visual guidance of the robot, but most range finding algorithms of motion stereo have suffered from poor accuracy due to the quantization noise and measurement error. In this paper, 3-D position estimation and refinement scheme is proposed, and its performance is discussed. The main concept of the approach is to consider the entire frame sequence at the same time rather than to consider the sequence as a pair of images. The experiments using real images have been performed under following conditions : hand-held camera, static object. The result demonstrate that the proposed nonlinear least-square estimation scheme provides reliable and fairly accurate 3-D position information for vision-based position control of robot. of robot.

  • Keeping a system in stable state is one of the important issues of control theory. The main goal of our basic research is stability of unmanned aerial vehicle (quadrotor). This type of system uses a variety of sensors to stabilize. In control theory and automatic control system to stabilize any system it is need to apply feedback control based on information from sensors. Our aim is to provide balance based on the 3D spatial information in real time. We used PID control method for stabilization of a seesaw balancing system and the article presents our experimental results. This paper presents the possibility of balancing of seesaw system based on feedback information from stereo vision system only.

  • 최근 고해상력을 가진 줌 렌즈 CCD(Charge Coupled Device) 카메라가 출시되면서 디지털 영상을 쉽게 취득할 수 있게 되어 일상적인 활용에서부터 컴퓨터 시각(computer vision)이나 사진측량과 같은 전문적인 분야에 이르기까지 다양하게 응용할 수 있는 계기가 마련되고 있다. 현재 상용되고 있는 일반 줌 렌즈 CCD 카메라는 영상을 취득하는 데 많은 장점을 갖고 있으나 실제 영상 취득과정에서 다양한 줌의 이동으로 인하여 표정요소계산 및 카메라 렌즈 오차검정에 상당한 어려움이 발생하여 이에 대한 연구가 진행되어오고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존에 비측량용 카메라에서 취득된 영상을 해석하는 기법으로 사진측량 분야에서 사용되어온 DLT(Direct Linear Transformation) 모델식과 컴퓨터 시각(computer vision)분야에서 카메라 검정 및 3차원 복원에 사용되고 있는 Tsai 모델식을 도입ㆍ적용하여 표정요소계산 및 3차원 복원정확도를 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과 Tsai 모델식에 의한 결과가 DLT 모델식에 의한 결과보다 정확도 및 안정성면에서 향상된 결과를 보여주고 있어서 Tsai 모델식에 대한 사용이 기대된다.

  • This paper presents a methodology for automatic feature extraction used in a vision system of FMC (flexible Manufacturing Cell). To implement a robot vision system, it is important to make a feature database for object recognition, location, and orientation. For industrial applications, it is necessary to extract feature information from CAD database since the detail information about an object is described in CAD data. Generally, CAD description is three dimensional information but single image data from camera is two dimensional information. Because of this dimensiional difference, many problems arise. Our primary concern in this study is to convert three dimensional data into two dimensional data and to extract some features from them and store them into the feature database. Secondary concern is to construct feature selecting system that can be used for part recognition in a given set of objects.

  • This paper describes a 3 dimensional position estimation method for a eye-in-hand robot vision system. The camera is mounted on the tip of a robot manipulator, and moves without restriction. Sequences of images are considered simultaneously for nonlinear least-square formation, and the best estimation of the 3 dimensional position is searched by the Simplex search algorithm. The experiments show that the proposed method can provide fairly accurate position information, while the robot is executing a given task.

  • Passenger safety is a primary concern of railway system but, it has been urgent issue that dozens of people are killed every year when they are fallen from train platforms. In this paper, we propose a vision based monitoring system for railway station platform. The system immediately perceives dangerous factors of passengers on the platform by using image processing technology. To monitor almost entire length of the track line in the platform, we use several video cameras. Each camera conducts surveillance its own preset monitoring area whether human or dangerous object was fallen in the area. Moreover, to deal with the accident immediately, the system provides local station, central control room employees and train driver with the video information about the accident situation including alarm message. This paper introduces the system overview and detection process with experimental results. According to the results, we expect the proposed system will play a key role for establishing highly intelligent monitoring system in railway.
