  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of biodiesel derived from waste cooking oil on the spray behavior and macroscopic spray characteristics. To analyze quantitative characteristics of test fuels, injection quantity was measured at various injection pressures and the spray images of injected fuels in the pressurized chamber were obtained by using a high speed camera and image analysis system. Based on the measured spray images, the spray tip penetration and spray cone angle were investigated at various energizing timings and injection pressures. In this work, the experimental results showed that the injection quantity of waste cooking biodiesel indicated the higher quantities than diesel at high injection pressure. As the injection pressure was increased, the spray tip penetrations of biodiesel were higher value than diesel. The difference of penetration between biodiesel and conventional diesel fuel was reduced in accordance with the increase of injection pressure. Also, the spray angles of diesel were larger than that of biodiesel because diesel fuel has lower viscosity than biodiesel. In addition, the spray evolution processes of biodiesel fuel at various injection pressures and the elapsed time after the injection were compared to the conventional diesel fuel.

  • In this study, injection quantity, rate and spray image of multiple injections which are important design parameters for a piezo type injector have been investigated. Interval of injections and a number of injections in multiple injection strategy has been controlled to verify interaction of each injection. Spray characteristics of multiple injections have been researched through optical process with a high speed camera in a high pressure chamber. In addition, a method of RMS(Root Mean Square) process has been used for comprehending the distribution of injection easily. As a result, in case of piezo type injector, characteristics of injection quantity according to charging voltage and the difference of injection quantity between single and triple injection were confirmed. Also, injection rate for increasing injection duration was confirmed. And spray characteristics of multiple injections were improved; multiple injections were possible in a shorter time interval between each injection. With this study, a possibilities of more accurate multiple injection control would be expected.

  • The IAEA held the IAEA Robotics Challenge 2017 (IRC2017) to protect workers during inspections of spent nuclear fuel and to improve work efficiency and accuracy rates. To this end, we developed an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) system called the spent fuel check vehicle (SCV). The SCV extracts and tracks the target through image processing, and it is necessary to find suitable parameters for the SNF storage environment in advance. This preliminary work takes time. It is also difficult to prepare the environment in which the work will proceed. In addition, if the preliminary work does not proceed as planned, the system will not move at the proper speed and will become unstable, with yawing and overshoot. To solve this problem, we developed a controller with a camera that can extract the depth at which the target is stored and allow distance-adaptive control. This controller is able to attenuate system instability factors such as yawing and overshoot better than existing controllers by continuously changing system operation parameters according to the depth. In addition, the time required for preliminary work during inspections can be shortened.

  • The IR camera and laser-based IR projector provide an effective solution for real-time collection of moving targets in RGB-D videos. Different from the traditional RGB videos, the captured depth videos are not affected by the illumination variation. In this paper, we propose a novel feature extraction framework to describe human activities based on the above optical video capturing method, namely spatial-temporal texture features for 3D human activity recognition. Spatial-temporal texture feature with depth information is insensitive to illumination and occlusions, and efficient for fine-motion description. The framework of our proposed algorithm begins with video acquisition based on laser projection, video preprocessing with visual background extraction and obtains spatial-temporal key images. Then, the texture features encoded from key images are used to generate discriminative features for human activity information. The experimental results based on the different databases and practical scenarios demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm for the large-scale data sets.

  • In order to extract motion features from an input image acquired by a static CCD-camera in a restricted area, we need a robust algorithm to cope with noise sensitivity and condition change. In this paper, we proposed an efficient algorithm to extract and track motion features in a noisy environment or with sudden condition changes. We extract motion features by considering a change of neighborhood pixels when moving objects exist in a current frame with an initial background. To remove noise in moving regions, we used a morphological filter and extracted a motion of each object using 8-connected component labeling. Finally, we provide experimental results and statistical analysis with various conditions and models.

  • Localization of mobile agent within a sensing network is a fundamental requirement for many applications, using networked navigating systems such as the sonar-sensing system or the visual-sensing system. To fully utilize the strengths of both the sonar and visual sensing systems, This paper describes a networked sensor-based navigation method in an indoor environment for an autonomous mobile robot which can navigate and avoid obstacle. In this method, the self-localization of the robot is done with a model-based vision system using networked sensors, and nonstop navigation is realized by a Kalman filter-based STSF(Space and Time Sensor Fusion) method. Stationary obstacles and moving obstacles are avoided with networked sensor data such as CCD camera and sonar ring. We will report on experiments in a hallway using the Pioneer-DX robot. In addition to that, the localization has inevitable uncertainties in the features and in the robot position estimation. Kalman filter scheme is used for the estimation of the mobile robot localization. And Extensive experiments with a robot and a sensor network confirm the validity of the approach.

  • In this study, we developed a 3D facial modeler and animator that will not use the existing method by 3D scanner or camera. Without expensive image-input equipments, we can easily create 3D models only using front and side images. The system is available to animate 3D facial models as we connect to animation server on the WWW which is independent from specific platforms and softwares. It was implemented using Java 3D API. The facial modeler detects MPEG-4 FDP(Facial Definition Parameter) feature points from 2D input images, creates 3D facial model modifying generic facial model with the points. The animator animates and renders the 3D facial model according to MPEG-4 FAP(Facial Animation Parameter). This system can be used for generating an avatar on WWW.

  • The augmented reality is a technology which expresses the information hardly obtained in the real world by synthesizing virtual objects in the real world. This study uses IR LED marker to obtain the coordination of real world for registration of virtual objects. Since the IR LED marker is inserted in target object thus it has properties of invisible markers. To realize the augmented reality, the existence of marker can be observed in camera input image. Therefore, this paper provides a method to give the properties of perfect invisible marker by using inpainting technology when realizing IR LED marker.

  • In this paper, we propose mobile Augmented Reality(AR) for smart learning system which is advanced e-learning. AR is technology that seamlessly overlays computer graphics on the real world. AR has become widely available because of mobile AR. Mobile AR is possible to get information from real world anytime, anywhere. Nowadays, there are various areas using AR such as entertainment, marketing, location-based AR. One of the most promising areas is education. AR in education shows lifelike images to users for realism. It's a good way for improving concentration and attention. We utilize only a camera for image-based AR without other sensor.
