  • This paper proposes a view direction-based human computer interface(HCI) system using image observation and EMG signal. CCD camera is available for observation relatively small angular view direction. Large angle is recognized by measuring EMG signal of the sternocleidomastoideus, because it is difficult to detect the large angular view direction by CCD observation. From experimental results, we show the proposed HCI system is useful for the disabled.

  • In this paper, we propose a visual inspection algorithm to detect can print-errors by using multi-camera and image valuing algorithm. The features of the algorithm are to use four cameras that are arranged with 90$^{\circ}$ between each other and to adopt a synthesized image model which represents whole surface of a can. Using the model, detection process is straight forward, namely it is comparing a partial region of the can to a specific region of the model where is previously marked.

  • Motion blur, which occurs when relative motion between a camera and an object exits, is inevitable in moving pictures. By this reason there have been many research results for reducing such motion blur, especially for spatially variant case. Int he present paper, an adaptive iterative restoration method is applied to reduce the irregular motion blur in the image.

  • An automated surface-strain measuring system is developed in the present study, which consists of the hardware to capture and to display digital images and the software to calculate the 3-D informations of grid points. The software is implemented using the image processing technique, and includes a program for the camera calibration and the post-processor to display the strain distribution. An LDH(limitting dome height) test specimen is measured its surface-strain as an application of the present system.

  • Cutting tool life monitoring is a critical element needed for designing unmanned machining systems. This paper describes a tool wear measurement system using computer vision which repeatedly measures flank and crater wear of a single point cutting tool. This direct tool wear measurement method is based on an interactive procedure utilizing a image processor and multi-vision sensors. A measurement software calcultes 7 parameters to characterize flank and crater wear. Performance test revealed that the computer vision technique provides precise, absolute tool-wear quantification and reduces human maesurement errors.

  • Using monochrome CCD camera with high speed electronic shutter. blade image is captured in the environment with vibration. The image is preprocessed using LoG filter and zero crossing. We used Hough transformation method to detect straight lines and obtained width between lines caused by grinders. This paper proposes automatic blade measuring method to automate the process control of blade grinding.

  • A faster autofocusing method is proposed. The searching speed of microscope camera is limited by the long focusing time due to too much sampled digital image data. The improvement of autofocusing speed based on the down sampling is discussed analytically and is proved by experiments. The anticipated aliasing is found negligible in shilling rate of focus measure.

  • Tri-stimulus values of CIE-XYZ and RGB values obtained by photographic film, CCD camera or scanner depend on the spectral sensitivity of imaging devices and the spectral radiant distribution of the illumination. It is important to record and reproduce the reflectance spectra of the object for true device independent color reproduction and high accurate recording of the scene. In this paper, a method to record the reflection spectra of the object is introduced and its application to spectral endoscopes is presented.

  • Obtained disparity map from the stereo camera by using the several stereo matching algorithms carries lots of noise because of various causes. In our approach, mode filtering and noise elimination technique using the histogram and projection-based region merging methods are adopted for improving the quality of disparity map and image segmentation. The proposed algorithms are implemented in VHDL and the real-time experimentation shows the accurately divided objects.

  • This paper describes a visual control of autonomous vehicle using neural network. Visual control for road-following of autonomous vehicle is based on road image from camera. Road points on image are inputs of controller and vehicle speed and steering angle are outputs of controller using neural network. Simulation study confirmed the visual control of road-following using neural network. For experimental test, autonomous electric vehicle is designed and driving test is realized
