  • This study attempts to examine the factors affecting the introduction of e-Business systems and also, to assess the effects of various e-Business systems on firm performance. Empirical analysis is carried out with firm data of 2009, which is collected from Firm Activity Survey of Statistics Korea. Firm performance is measured by four indexes; operating income per employee, value added per employee, return on assets, and return on sales. Empirical results indicate that a firm is more likely to introduce any e-Business system as its size and its assets per employee are larger and as its ratio of labor compensations to operating costs is lower. Additionally, a firm with higher skill levels and more fruitful management experiences is more likely to have any e-Business system. In general, it appears that the presence of e-Business, especially enterprise resources planning, has positive effects on the firm performance.

  • The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector is undergoing a fundamental transformation. Determinant factors in this transformation process are deregulations and technological advancements. From the value chain perspective, industry convergence plays the most crucial role in the transformation of the established telecommunications and media industries. The objective of this paper is to validate the impact of convergence on the business performance using empirical data. To identify the various effects driven by industry convergence, we analyzed the relationships between firm's degree of convergence and the business performance using regression analysis. From the empirical result with the 2002-2005 data, it was found that the convergence across ICT sectors improves the business performance measured by Tobin's q significantly and this is only a recent phenomenon. These results are consistent with the conjecture that higher degree of convergence is becoming more associated with higher market value.

While business reveals new business model, the business has kept making efforts to replace traditional business model to network environment in order to solve the problems of spaces and times. In this research, we emphasize necessity through case study that the traditional concept of customer should be related with the concept of business network. The finding of this research mainly focused on business, tries to use traits of network without changes of business model, is easy to trap in structural inertia. However, the targeted companies in the case study preferentially considered customer as subscriber. Consequently, they successfully changed their existing business model as well as their business relationships with other companies. Based on methods of "Value Curve" and "Customer Experience Cycle," we analyzed the changed business model and proposed a conceptual idea regarding concept shifting from traditional customer to network subscriber. We hope that the research implicates to propose a new method for business model to develop more advanced business opportunities through using the concept of network subscriber.
