The purpose of this study is to develope a method for measuring social benefit by mitigating in-vehicle congestion level in intercity buses. Contingent valuation method and Tobit model are adopted for social benefit evaluation method. One thousand passengers were interviewed with 992 obtained valid samples. Tobit models with age, income level, and bus boarding times as explanatory variables are selected to estimate the willingness to pay for the mitigation of intercity bus in-vehicle congestion. Statistically and logically, two models with age or income level as explanatory variables are turned out to be valid. The intercity bus service supply status and usage are examined and the bus users who have willingness-to-pay for the intercity bus in-vehicle congestion mitigation have been identified. In case of the 'no standing' rules implemented to the intercity bus, the annual economic benefit from the service is estimated to be 14.7 billion won.

This Study estimates the actual night traffic using the smart card data used by most of the public transportation users, and compares it with the current night bus routes by KT Telecom based on the night time call volume. In order to compare the current night bus and night trips evaluated by smart card data, we presented indicators related to the degree of matching, and estimated the volume of service currently provided. The unique approach of the study is that we chose subway station instead of bus stop for the unit of the study. Bus stops has their complexity in a way that stops with same name could belong to different administrative area depending on its direction. For this reason, we decided to use subway station and defined its adjacent administrative district as the scope of influence. Since night bus is the primary means of transportation during the late night, it is anticipated that they will be able to provide better service by calculating the actual traffic and selecting the routes.
The goal of our research is to develop more effective bus information system using user generated information and social tagging. In this research, we have developed a smartphone-based bus guide system using social tagging and awareness of location. It will guide users to the nearby bus stops and provides users with information about the bus lines at the bus stops. Information around bus-stops can also be registered as tags into the system by users and can be utilized for bus information service. Simple keyword search utilizing tagging information can provide users with bus information about destinations.

Many studies on bus scheduling optimization have been done from the 1960s to recent years for establishing rational bus schedule plan that can improve convenience of bus passengers and minimize unnecessary runs. After 2000, as part of the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), the importance of the schedule management and providing schedule information through bus schedule optimization has become a big issue, and much research is being done to develop optimization models that will increase bus passenger convenience and, on the side of bus management, minimize unnecessary bus operation. The purpose of this study is to calculate the optimal bus frequency and create a timetable for each bus stop by applying DTR or DTRC model that use data for each bus stop and route segment. Model verification process was implemented using data collected from bus management system (BMS) and integrated transit-fare card system for bus route of Seoul's No. 472 line. In order to evaluate the reliability and uncertainty of optimal solution, sensitivity analysis was implemented for the various parameters and assumptions used in the bus scheduling model.
This study analyzed the level of service on passenger transfer between metro and bus based on transit smart card data obtained in 2010. In order to evaluate the level of service on transfer, we defined the service level specially on transfer time at metro stations. The data of passenger transfer time were used in cluster analysis to classify the service level from A to F. The results show that the average transfer time from metro to bus was 6.45 minutes. The number of stations with level of service A(approximately less than 7 minutes) and B(less than 16minutes) were found to be 215 and 227stations respectively. Also, the number of stations with the level of service C and D (greater than 20 minutes for transfer) were found to be 6 stations where any type of improvement on transfer facilities is required.

This paper presents a fast and effective methodology for service restoration in large-scale distribution systems. The service restoration problem is formulated as a constrained optimization problem and requires the fast computation time and superior solution because the more unfaulted out-of-service area should be restored as soon as possible. The proposed methodology is designed to consider the fast computation time and priority service restoration by dijkstra algorithm and fuzzy theory in large-scale distribution systems. Simulation results demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed on a 26-bus and 140-bus system.

The chartered bus scheduling is to determine the allocation of buses to customer service requests. For the scheduling, we first represent the scheduling problem using a graph and develop a mathematical model. Second, we develop an algorithm for the scheduling problem including heuristic methods. We tested the performance of the algorithm on instances with real data. As a result, the total empty load driving time is reduced over 10% comparing with that of current practice at the company

To improve bus service quality and passengers' safety at bus stops, it is necessary to analyze the relationship between bus stopping behaviors and bus stop conditions. Thus, this study investigated the proper stopping rate at 31 bus stops on Central Boulevard in Busan metropolitan city and analyzed the relationship between the proper stopping rate and bus stop operating conditions such as the length of berth, the distance from the front line of berth to bus shelter and so on. The analysis results show that the proper stopping rate is 45.82 % and the rates are closely related to each bus stop operating condition. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the front line of berth should be located parallel to bus shelter for improving the safety of bus passengers. In addition, it is suggested that the length of berth should be longer than 15m and the pavement marking of berth be redesigned with dash lines to take account of buses' entering and leaving the berth.
We propose a vehicle-mounted, location-aware mobile digital signage system that can be used for public transportation through mobile communication. This paper proposes the installations of the LED display panels at the backside of the bus., which display traffic information to cars behind the bus. Information to be displayed would include, but is not limited to, road information, public commercials and private commercials. We propose the system architecture and further implement the prototype of mobile digital signage system for demonstration. The system is based on the Client-Server system. Each bus has a client terminal which detects the current location by a GPS receiver and sends its location information to the server using mobile communication function. The terminal device receives advertisements and traffic information from the server and displays it to the large LCD or LED panel installed at the inside and outside of the bus. We use the Android smartphone as a client system, which inherently equipped with GPS and mobile communication function. GPS detects the location of bus and reports its geo-location data to the traffic information center server via a wireless communication network. On the server side, we developed a specially designed control server, where it communicates with the other traffic information center and updates and manages the databases contents being displayed by each position. The server contains location dependent variable information and returns selected information back to the vehicle in real time. Spatial database is used to process location based data. Server system periodically receives the real time traffic information from the road information center database. And it process the information by bus location and bus line number. In this paper, we propose a mobile digital signage service and explain the system implementation of this service.
To raise transit ridership, it is necessary to expand transit facilities in long term Plans and to raise passengers' satisfaction by improving bus service qualify in short term Plans. In this study, the relationship between bus driver job satisfaction and Passenger service Performance is analyzed. The results of the study indicate that a driver s job satisfaction has an influence on accident rates. However, even when job satisfaction is not very high, if food resting facilities and Policies ave Provided then the Probability of an accident tends to decrease. To improve job satisfaction, several things should be done, such as stabilizing employment, creating fair company policies, improving overall employee welfare, and enhancing driver achievement from working. The satisfaction from salary is also an important factor and drivers are satisfied when they earn more money relative to other companies' drivers and when they aye satisfied with their salary increases. Therefore, creating appropriate monetary incentives would be a food policy for improving bus driver job satisfaction. This study serves as pilot research to make a foundation for further research about job satisfaction in the public transit field.
