  • Korea rapidly arranged urbanization and overpopulation with high growth of economy and all kinds of decrepit facilities are scattered all over the downtown. If there is a strong wind in fire, fire is rapidly increased by various fire spread factors. And Korea cannot build prediction model of urban fire combustion phenomena because there is no studies that physically explains the suitable flame phenomena for its real state. In this study, based on the Japanese Urban fire simulation to target the traditional market area and suitability of fire risk assessment were reviewed.

  • Recently, For the most efficient use of spaceis, high-rise buildings tend to increase. So it is with Korea, too. Besides, today high-rise buildings grows due to fire damage to life and property at large. In this study, Through analysis of domestic and foreign fire case and listen to the high-rise building fire managers, tenants, professionals advice, when the fire from the high-rise building, effective fire suppression tactics should we wish to research ways. In addition, we have used the car gondola was installed outside the fire suppression methods in studying. So that fire-fighting is a fire place can be reached quickly, many casualties and property damage, will be reduced.

  • Performance based fire engineering design is being adopted around the world as a rationed means of providing efficient and effective fire safety in Building. This development is being supported by the adoption of performance based codes which specify the objective and minimum performance requirements for fire safety traditional design for fire safety which is still practiced in many countries, relies on "prescriptive" codes which specify how a building is to be built, which no statement of objective and little or no opportunity to offer more rational alterative design. It is the aim of this study to investigate and analyze the research direction of structural fire resistance design of RC structures for recommendation of PBD in Korea.

  • Under the present code, sprinkler heads operating simultaneously are fixed at 30 in number, irrelavant to building use. But, apartment buildings in korea have mostly wall-and-slab structure and every house hold is separated by fire-proof wall. Therefore, apropriate review about present system should be made for the safety assurance by reasonable effort.

  • Fire safety systems in large buildings are likely to be complex and may be designed independently of other systems. This means that the interactions and interfaces between the fire safety systems and between the environmental control systems and the fire safety systems may not be carried out properly. Many large, recent buildings have many technological component systems that are used for the control of the environment within the building. Because of the "special" nature of the fire safety systems there is little consideration is given to the possibility systems with a dual function. However, many of the functions of fire safety systems are extensions of systems that provide the day to day control over the internal environment. The present world-wide trend towards the establishment of performance codes, and regulations, will enable the functional design of all systems and thereby allow closer integration of the "ordinary" and "special" systems. Some aspects of the functional and performance characteristics of systems in buildings are introduced and discussed. Special reference is made to the contributions of the systems to the minimisation of fire damage.e minimisation of fire damage.

  • In the events of a fire in the residential building, highly flammable polyurethane foam sofa produce toxic smokes. In this type of fire, the residents of the building can be gotten into the difficulties of evacuating from the fire places or may be to death due to a lot of hot toxic gases. In this study, CFD simulations were carried out to study the effects of the openings of stairwell on the fire characteristics of fire room and stairwell. Also, analysis of fire hazard based on the tenability limits of fire and FED(fractional effective dose) was performed to evaluate the life safety of the residents of the building. In the fire room, maximum temperature was about $290^{\circ}C$, maximum CO concentration was about 4,740 ppm, and the time to incapacitation of residents in fire room was about t=144 s. In the stairwell, temperature and CO concentration in the condition of openings to be open were even lower than those in it to be closed. Time to the tenability limit with respect to smoke visibility in the stairwell with openings, which was open, was shorter than that of it without openings to be open. It has been shown from this study that opening the stairwell openings is able to decrease the fire hazards to the life safety in the multi-story residential building fire.

  • The facilities of domestic elderly people are getting higher in the facility due to the rapid increase of the elderly population. Elderly people ability to evacuate the facility such as cognition and walking ability is very low. Therefore, it is necessary to secure the safety of evacuation in case of fire, but the evacuation safety measures in case of domestic fire accidents are insufficient. This study is to identify the problems of the safety of evacuation through the fire case analysis and to propose the measures against it.

  • According to building law, there are only regulations on the fire prevention compartments that can perform the function of partial smoke compartment, but the building law management of the smoke compartment for effective smoke diffusion prevention and control is not possible. The lack of control on the smoke compartment such as leakage rate on the penetrating part, and the lack of leakage rate in the design of smoke control of fire safety law resulted in the absence of fundamental safety technology. Therefore, this study seeks to find solutions to domestic problems after reviewing relevant domestic laws and regulations.

  • The purpose of this study is to supply basis data that can improve the recognition of Daegu citizens on fire safety through the investigation of their recognition on fire safety. To achieve the purpose, 553 Daegu citizens in Daegu city were interviewed from Oct. 2 to 15, 2003. The results of this study are as follows; Citizens had thought little the recognition of our society on fire safety and Daegu subway fire accident caused very big effect in citizens' fire safety recognition. Citizens did not trust about fire fighting facilities that is established in the building. Method to elevate recognition for citizens' fire safety recognition appeared by TV, newspaper, etc public information reinforcement (30.7%), establishment and operation of the fire safety experience center (24.6%), fire safety education reinforcement in school (20.8%).

  • This paper investigates the progressive collapse behavior of 3D steel-framed gravity buildings under fires with a cooling phase. The effect of fire protections and bracing systems on whether, how, and when a gravity building collapses is studied. It is found that whether a building collapses or not depends on the duration of the heating phase, and it may withstand a "short-hot" fire, but collapses under a mild fire or a "long-cool" fire. The collapse time can be conservatively determined by the time when the temperature of steel columns reaches a critical temperature of 550 ℃. It is also found that the application of a higher level of fire protection may prevent the collapse of a building, but may also lead to its collapse in the cooling phase due to the delayed temperature increment in the heated members. The tensile membrane action in a heated slab can be resisted by a tensile ring around its perimeter or by tensile yielding lines extended to the edge of the frame. It is recommended for practical design that hat bracing systems should be arranged on the whole top floor, and a combination of perimeter and internal vertical bracing systems be used to mitigate the fire-induced collapse of gravity buildings. It is also suggested that beam-to-column connections should be designed to resist high tensile forces (up to yielding force) during the cooling phase of a fire.
