Glomerella cingulata (Stonem.) Spauld. & Schrenk에 의한 스타티스 탄저병 (Anthracnose of Statice Caused by Glomerella cingulata (Stonem.) Spaulding & Schrenk in Chonbuk Province)

  • Anthracnose of statice (Limonium sp. var. Misty Blue and L. sinuatum Mill. cv. Early Blue) occurred up to 20% in vinyl-houses at Buan, Imsil and Namwon from July to November, 1993. All isolates from the anthracnose symptoms were identified as Glomerella cingulata (Stonem.) Spauld. & Schrenk and its anamorph was Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Pens.) Sacc. Pathogenicity of the isolates was ascertained on the statice host by artificial inoculation. The symptoms on leaves appeared as circular brown spots in early stage and developed to zonate spots. The spot aggregated and diseased leaves were blighted. The symptom also developed on the stems of severely infected plants and the infected branches were blighted. A lots of acervuli developed on the lesions of stems. Acervuli on necrotic lesions were setose, rounded and elongated. Setae variable in length, 1~4 septate, brown, slightly swollen at the base and tapered to the apex on which conidia were occasionally borned. Statice was revealed as the new host of G. cingulata.

Anthracnose of May Lily Caused by Colletotrichum liliacearum

  • Anthracnose symptoms severely occurred up to 100% on leaves of May lily grown in four locations in Korea during a disease survey in 2001. The symptoms appeared as circular to irregular spots with brown to dark brown discoloration on leaves of the plant, and severely infected leaves blighted. A total of 35 isolates of Colletotrichum sp. was obtained from the spotted lesions and identified as Colletotrichum liliacearum based on the morphological and cultural characteristics. Leaf spots similar to the original anthracnose symptoms were induced on the host leaves by artificial inoculation with the isolates of the fungus. This is the first report that C. liliacearum causes anthracnose of May lily.

Conservation of the Old Hat

  • This research is to conservate the old hat and restore its shape and place it on a supportive form in a stable protective container. The hat is a homemade construction, utilizing three different machine made laces, and two cotton net fabrics. The exterior, particularly the top crown piece, as well as the lace along the brim's edge has been generally soiled and discolored. Inside the crown, the cotton net has broken threads, and thread loss in several areas. The paper covering the two wires is very weak, and has discolored the lace in the areas of contact. The plastic buckles of the velvet ribbon have also discolored the areas where there is contact. The wash/bleach bath procedure was very effective. Virtually all of the light brown surface discoloration stains were removed. The darker brown spots, particularly concentrated around the two paper covered wires and assumed to be rust, were $90\%$ removed by the treatment. The brown spots apparently were due to the degradation of the paper covering, and not caused by the wire itself. The buckram foundation lost about $50\%$ of its stiffness, but this was not a major concern due to the fact that this hat should remain it its mount, which has been designed to serve for both storage and exhibition purposes.

Puccinia dieteliana에 의한 큰까치수영녹병 (Rust of Lysimachia clethroides Caused by Puccinia dieteliana)

  • 2008년 9월 덕유산국립공원의 황골계곡과 적상산 안국사 주변에서 큰까치수영의 잎에 녹병이 심하게 발생하였다. 잎의 앞면에는 황갈색의 작은 반점을 형성하며, 잎의 뒷면에는 병이 진점됨에 따라 표피가 터지면서 병반부에서 흑갈색의 많은 겨울포자퇴가 형성되었다. 겨울포자는 곤봉형 또는 방추형이고 황갈색을 띠며, 크기는 $38{\sim}62\;{\times}\;14{\sim}22\;{\mu}m$ 정도이다. 겨울포자의 윗부분은 대부분 둥글거나 둔한 모양의 돌기가 있으며, 아랫부분은 점차 가늘어진다. 또한 포자병은 거의 탈락하지 않고, 투명하며, 길이는 $75{\mu}m$에 이른다. 이 녹병균의 기주특이성 및 균학적 특징을 조사한 결과 Puccinia dieteliana로 동정하였으며, 이 녹병균에 의한 병을 큰까치수영녹병으로 명명한다.

Occurrence of Tan-brown Leaf Spot Caused by Pilidium concavum on Fragaria ananassa in Korea

  • In 2015, a new leaf spot disease was observed on strawberry seedlings in Wanju, Korea. Tanned brown spots appeared on the leaves of the infected plants, and often coalesced to form larger necrotic areas, resulting in the death of foliage. An isolate was obtained in pure culture. On the basis of morphological characteristics and molecular analysis of internal transcribed spacer rDNA sequence, the causal agent was identified as Pilidium concavum. Pathogenicity tests revealed the isolate was pathogenic to the leaves and fruits of strawberry. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of P. concavum causing tan-brown leaf spot on strawberry in Korea.

수입 오렌지로부터 갈색썩음병균(Phytophthora citrophthora)의 분리 및 동정 (Isolation and Identification of Phytophthora citrophthora from Imported Orange Fruits)

  • Occurrence of brown rot was observed on imported orange fruits, and irregular brown spots were appeared as an intial symptom. White colored mycelia were developed rapidly on the surface of the fruits under the humid condition and resulted in rotting of the fruits. The causal organism of brown rot of orange was identified as Phytophthora citrophthora. Most sporangia were nondeciduous, papillate, ovoid, and measured 25.5~51.5$\times$17.9~34.7 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in size. P. citrophtora was pathogenic on Satsuma mandarin as well as orange. Symptoms were produced 3~7 days after artificial inoculation of sporangia and mycelia mixture on the fruits of orange and Satsuma mandarin, which were similar to those on the naturally infected fruits.

지류에 발생하는 얼룩반점의 성분분석에 관하여 (Analysis on the Components of Brown Spot occurred in the Papers)

  • The old books which have been colored to brown spots were analyzed chemically to compare with white part. The original raw materials were paper mulberry (Broussonetia Kazine) and woodpulp. White part contained58.8%($\alpha$-37.2%,$\beta$-8.6%, $\gamma$-12.7%)cellulose, 21.7% hemicellulose, 19.8% lignin,4.4% pentosan and brown sopt part contained 49.1%($\alpha$-19.8%, $\beta$-14.5%,$\gamma$-14.8%) cellulose, 27.1% hemicellulose, 23.8% lignin, 4.8% pentosan. Both of brown spot and white parts contained starch without protein. The pH was 4.9 in brown and 5.0 in white part respecitively. The brown spot parts were more solidified than white parts according to SEM observation. Difference of organiccompinent in brown part came from white part were 2-hydroxy-benzaldehydeand phenol.

Grovesinia moricola occurring on Parthenocissus tricuspidata

  • Between August and September 2017, zonate leaf spots with severe defoliation were observed on Parthenocissus tricuspidata in Gimcheon, Korea. The initial symptoms included water-soaked, gray to grayish brown, circular or irregular-shaped leaf spots. As the disease progressed, the spots enlarged, coalesced, and became cream-colored with characteristic target-shaped rings, leading to leaf blight and premature defoliation. Based on cultural and morphological characteristics, the fungus associated with the symptoms was identified as Grovesinia moricola. The identity of this fungus was confirmed by analyzing sequences of the internal transcribed spacer region of ribosomal DNA. The pathogenicity of the isolate was demonstrated by artificial inoculation. To our knowledge, this is the first report of G. moricola occurring on P. tricuspidata globally as well as in Korea.

  • 2011년에 전북 정읍지역에 재배하는 쓴오이에서 탄저병이 발생하였다. 탄저병은 처음에 흑갈색의 작은 원형반점들이 잎과 열매에 나타났다. 감염된 잎과 열매는 작은 갈색-흑갈색 반점을 형성하고 병반이 커지거나 융합되어 큰 원형의 흑갈색 병반을 형성하였다. 탄저병 병징에서 분리한 병원균은 배양형태적 특성조사와 ITS rDNA 염기서열 분석결과 Colletotrichum gloeosporioides로 동정되었다. 분리된 C. gloeosporioides는 인공접종에 의한 병원성 검정에서도 동일한 병징을 나타내어 국내 처음으로 C. gloeosporioides에 의한 쓴오이 탄저병을 보고한다.

Uromyces veratri에 의한 박새녹병 (Rust of Veratrum patulum Caused by Uromyces veratri)

  • 2005년 6월 덕유산국립공원 설천봉 부근에서 박새의 잎에 녹병이 심하게 발생하였다. 처음에는 잎에 작은 황색 또는 황록색의 작은 반점을 형성하며, 병이 진점됨에 따라 표피가 터지면서 병반부에서 밤갈색의 많은 여름포자가 형성되었다. 박새녹병의 여름포자는 구형 또는 타원형이고 황갈색을 띠며, 크기는 $19{\sim}27{\times}17{\sim}24\;{\mu}m$ 정도이다. 겨울포자는 난형 또는 타원형이고 갈색을 띠며, 크기는 $19{\sim}36{\times}15{\sim}21\;{\mu}m$ 정도이다. 겨울포자의 윗부분은 대부분 둥글고 투명한 원뿔모양의 돌기가 있으며, 아랫부분은 둥글거나 가늘어진다. 또한 포자병은 거의 탈락하지 않고, 투명하며, 길이는 $38\;{\mu}m$에 이른다. 이 녹병균의 균학적 특징과 기주특이성을 조사한 결과 Uromyces veratri Schroeter로 동정하였으며, 이 녹병균에 의한 박새의 병을 박새녹병으로 명명하고자 한다.
