Stability evaluation of CWR on the bridge with lead Rubber Bearing(LRB) (LRB 교좌장치를 사용한 교량의 장대레일 축력안정성 평가)

  • LRB(Lead rubber bearing) has small resistance force against slowly acting loadings such as temporal and creep loadings vice versa large resistance force against rapid loadings such as earthquake and braking loadings. By those mechanical characteristics, it has the advantage to reduce longitudinal load acting on abutments and piers, and moreover to in1prove the running stability of train by restricting the behavior of bridge under the required level. In this study, a stability evaluation method of CWR on the bridge with LRB is presented. Several parametric studies are carried to investigate how LRB contributes to the improvement of CWR stability.

Evaluation of Seismic Force Effects on Skew Bridges (사교에 작용하는 지진하중의 영향 평가)

  • This study is focused on evaluation of the structural behavior of skewed bridge during earthquake. The variation of natural frequencies and the lateral forces at pier shoes by the skewness and the rotational effect about vertical axis of skewed bridge due to seismic activity are analytically evaluated and identified through case studies. For this purpose, the composite steel girder highway bridges are selected as case study models. The seismic analyses by response spectrum method and time history method are performed for the selected models. It has been recognized that the frequency of longitudinal model increased as the skew angle decreased, while the lateral mode frequency showed the opposite trends. When the skew angle decreased, longitudina seismic forces of the bridge at the pier were increased but decreased in transverse direction. And it also has been found that the skewed bridges of the case study models showed the rotational behavior about vertical axis due to motion of San Fernando earthquake at Pacoima Dam.

Seismic Performance Evaluation of Reinforced Concrete Bridge Columns under Varying Axial Force (변동 축하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 교각의 내진성능평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridge columns under varying axial force. A computer program, named RCAHEST(reinforced concrete analysis in higher evaluation system technology), for the analysis for reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The smeared crack approach is incorporated. In boundary plane at which each member with different thickness is connected, local discontinuity in deformation due to the abrupt change in their stiffness can be taken into account by introducing interface element. The effect of number of load reversals with the same displacement amplitude has been also taken into account to model the reinforcing steel and concrete. The proposed numerical method for seismic performance evaluation of reinforced concrete bridge columns under varying axial force is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • In this study, the characteristic of the Near Fault Ground Motion which was not considered at the seismic design in our country and how the Near Fault Ground Motion affects the cable-stayed bridge which have long period is analyzed through the dynamic response analysis. So, the object of this study is following that it makes the data which can be utilized as the seismic safety evaluation in case of the cable-stayed bridge taken the near fault in the future.

  • In this study, the usefulness of Radar method by means of assessing deck data-layer properties-was tested on the highway bridge. The obtained GPR data were compared with values measured from drilled cores and damage mapping by the visual survey. It is shown that GPR can provide the highly accurate measurements of layer properties of concrete decks and can map areas of deterioration in bridge by dielectric constants.

An Analysis on the Image and Landscape Harmonization of Urban Bridges on Han-River, Seoul, Korea (도시 교량경관의 이미지와 조화성 분석 -서울 한강 교량을 중심으로-)

  • This study aims to discover the landscape image of bridges and their harmonization wish surrounding sceneries. This research utilized the basic study tool of psycho-physics and processed the case study of five types of bridges on the Han-River, Seoul. Twenty-one bridges on Han-River were classified into five categories ; the cable stayed bridge, the arch bridge, the girder bridge, the trust bridge and the suspension bridge. Also, aesthetic elements of the bridges including the form the texture, the color, the scale and the harmony were examined. The questionaires to analysis the image and harmonization with surrounding sceneries were designed using semantic differential scale and 5 point Likert scale. The results of the research were as follows. First, components representing the images of bridge landscape are classified into three types, ‘beauty’, ‘weightfulness’ and ‘friendliness’. Second, the image of each bridge as a whole turns out not to be different from each other but to be different in the context of neighboring sceneries. It was also determined that both the Cable Stayed Bridge type and the Arch Bridge type are the most attractive. But, the former does have a more masculine image, and the latter has a m[n feminine image. Third, the Cable Stayed Bridge and the Arch Bridge were evaluated highly in terms of harmonization with surrounding landscapes, while the Girder Bridge received the lowest evaluation. All of the above results suggest that the bridges should be constructed not only for beauty itself in form, color, texture and scale, but also in harmonization with the surrounding landscape. Lastly, it is desirable to do further research to find out sort specific design principles that exist between bridges and tangible surrounding landscape types.

Some Thoughts on the Preliminary Seismic Performance Evaluation Procedure of Subway Infrastructures (도시철도 시설물의 내진성능 예비평가체계에 대한 소고)

  • There is a few problems in the preliminary seismic performance evaluation procedure of subway infrastructures, such as cut-and-cover tunnel structures and bridge structures, recently because the characteristics of subway infrastructures are not properly considered in the procedure. In particular, the evaluation procedure of vehicular bridge structures is applied to subway bridges without any modification. Moreover, the present evaluation procedure is lack of both theoretical and empirical backgrounds, which makes the evaluation less reliable. This paper presents problems in the existing preliminary evaluation procedure and proposes possible modification(revision) to the procedure.

  • The verification of the seismic performance of many urban railway bridges will be done or is done by the regulations of "Seismic Performance Evaluation Methods(Tips) of Existing Bridges" developed by KISTEC in 2004. This present process may involve some of the issues such as the unreflecting of the characteristics of the urban railway bridge and the appearance of ductility-based seismic design method. In this paper, the new and improved seismic performance evaluation system is proposed.
