This study investigated the association between the weight status of middle school students and the various weight-related characteristics including desired weight, weight perception, weight-related practice, physical activity, and overeating behavior. Questionnaires were administered to 473 middle school students (178 boys and 295 girls) in Daejeon. Boys and girls were divided into three groups respectively; (1) underweight (BMI<$5^{th}$ percentile) (2) normal weight ($5^{th}$ percentile$\leq$BMI<$85^{th}$ percentile) (3) overweight (BMI$\leq85^{th}$ percentile). Using BMI calculated from measured height and weight, 14.0% of boys and 6.8% of girls were underweight, and 16.3% of boys and 14.2% of girls were overweight. However, among this sample of students, 38.4% of boys and 13.6% of girls perceived themselves as underweight and 29.4% of boys and 44.9% of girls perceived themselves as overweight. We found that overweight students reported their body weights lower and their heights higher compared to non-overweight students, resulting in an underestimation of BMI. Based on desired BMI, 79.9% of the girls desired to be underweight and 73.0% of the boys desired to be normal weight. Overweight or normal weight students were less satisfied with their body weights than underweight students. Girls had more weight control experience and concern compared to boys. Overweight girls spent longer times in watching TV compared to non-overweight girls (p < 0.001) and had more overeating behaviors (p < 0.05). Overweight students reported that they ate snacks less frequently than non-overweight students, which may be due to their tendency to report less eating. In conclusion, significant gender differences and weight status differences existed in weight perception, weight satisfaction, and weight control experience and concern. Because perception of overweight is likely to lead to unhealthy eating behaviors and weight control, efforts for adolescents to improve accuracy of weight perceptions and to understand the benefits of being healthier are needed.
The purpose of this study was to determine the therapeutic effect of slope changes of the treadmill with body weight-supported training on gait characteristics in patients with hemiplegia. The volunteered subjects were divided into 3 groups based upon slope changes: control group ($0^{\circ}$ incline), $7^{\circ}$ group ($7^{\circ}$ incline), $12^{\circ}$ group ($12^{\circ}$ incline), They were trained the body weight-supported treadmill training (BWSTT) for 8 weeks. All subjects were supported up to 40% of their body weight on the treadmill training and the support was gradually decreased to 0~10% as the subjects were adapted to the training. There were significant improvements of walking velocity, step length of the affected side, the asymmetry ratio of step length in $7^{\circ}$ group (57.80 cm/s, 67.25 cm, .14), $12^{\circ}$ group (71.00 cm/s, 71.00 cm, .11) than control group (40.62 cm/s, 55.00 cm, .74) (p<.05): there were no differences between $7^{\circ}$ group and $12^{\circ}$ group in the all outcomes (p>.05). Both $7^{\circ}$ group and $12^{\circ}$ group scored higher than the control group in those outcomes and finally the effects of slopes changes of the treadmill were effective on gait characteristics of patients. But it s till remains undetermined what degree on the treadmill might be better to train the hemipareric patients. Therefore, more studies are required to look into minutely the changes of slopes of the treadmill influencing on gait characteristics.
The effects of Obosan in the diet on growth, percent weight gain, specific growth rate, feed conversion ration and body composition of nile tilpia were investigated. First feeding fry average weighing 11.0 mg were fed the diets containing 0%, 0.25%, 0.5%, 1.0% and 2.0% Obosan for 7 weeks. Body weight, percent weight gain, specific growith rate of fish fed the diets containing 0.25%, 0.5% and 1.0% Obosan were significantly higher than control diet (P<0.05). Feed conversion ratio of fish fed the diets containing 0.25% and 0.5% Obosan showed best results compare to other experimental groups (P<0.05). Juvenile average weighing 281.0g and adult fish average weighing 563.0g were fed control and 0.3% Obosan supplemented diet for 30 days and 175 days, respectively. Body weight, percent weight gain and specific growth rate were significantly higher in the fish fed Obosan supplemented diet than control diet (P<0.05). Crude protein, crude lipid, crude ash and moisture of dorsal muscle and liver were not significantly different between two experimental groups.
Acute (24 h) and chronic (90 days) oral toxicity studies on the ethanol extract of Trigonella foenumgraecum Leguminosae (L.) seeds were carried out. Acute dosages were 0.5, 1.0 and 3 g/kg while chronic dosage was 100 mg/kg per day of the extract. All morphological, biochemical, haematological and spermatogenic changes, in addition to mortality, body weight changes and any change in vital organs were recorded. Histopathological investigations were done on vital organs. Growth arrest in the treated animals was observed. The treated mice gained no significant weight during chronic treatment while there was a significant gain in body weight of the control group mice. Biochemical studies revealed a significant decrease in blood sugar levels of fenugreek treatment groups while haematological parameters remained comparable to the control. In the treatment, male group there was a significant decrease in weight of testes as compared to the control. There was a marginal weight gain in kidney weight of mice after chronic treatment as compared to the control. Fenugreek chronic treatment caused a highly significant spermatotoxic effects in male mice.
We developed the shoes which is specially designed to decrease the leg's fatness during walking and to improve the body figure. The analysis of the gait cycle and the shoes gave changes at the swing phase. We examined the results to 30 girl students of Yeong Dong Junior College for 5 weeks from 27, October to 29, Nobember in 1996, and the results were also obtained in decrease of their thigh's size in circumference. The results of the analysis are as followings; 1) After experiment circumference of the right thigh was decreased 0.04cm in noncontrol group and significantly decreased 1.04 cm in control group(p<0.01). 2) After experiment circumference of the left thigh was decreased 0.27 cm in noncontrol group and significantly decreased 1.17cm in control group(p<0.01). 3) After experiment circumference of the right calf of the leg decreased 0.09 cm in noncontrol group and significantly decreased 0.54 cm in control group(p<0.01). 4) After experiment circumference of the left calf of the leg decreased 0.21 cm in noncontrol group and significantly decreased 0.47 cm in control group. 5) After experiment body weight were not changed significantly in both group. In these results, if the people want to exercise the analysis of fat in the thigh, put on the shoes which improves the body figure and do daily work, and it will be naturally decreased the fat in thigh and they will maintain the beauty lines of the legs. There weren't any changes in the body weight while the fat of thigh in circumsference was analysed and decreased. It means that because the weight of the fat is very light, there weren't any changes in body weight.

The purpose of this study was to examine co-ed high school students' concern for appearance, weight control attitude and food behavior. The subjects were 405 students(boys 197, girls 208) in Sokcho area. Most of the students had much interest in appearance, and their perception of body type was significant differences between boys and girls(p<,00l). 22.8% of boys expressed satisfaction at their own body type. while just 9,6% of the girls were contented with their body type. In interest toward weight control. 43.7% of the boys and 79.8% of the girls had a regard for weight control. In relationship between weight control interest and the body type perception, there were significant differences among group of caring about weight control. moderate group and indifferent group(p<,00l), regardless of gender. As a whole, 41.3% of group that cared about weight control found themselves a little fat. Most of the boys who considered themselves thin(24,4%) were much concerned about weight control. where as girls who thought of themselves as thin were little interested in. Body type satisfaction was significant differences among interested group, moderate group and indifferent group(p<.00l). It appeared that they had breakfast very irregularly, But 86.9% of the total students had dinner, which indicated dinner was taken relatively on a regular basis. Among three meals, dinner was skipped the least, 23,5% (17.8% of the boys and 28,9% of the girls) went without breakfast everyday. For the reason, 65.1% of the overall students didn't eat breakfast due to time constraints, and lunch(39.8%) and dinner(31.3%) were skipped largely because eating them was troublesome. Less students went without meals to lose weight. and lunch(7.0%) was skipped more than breakfast(1.3%), and dinner(13,8%) was skipped more than lunch, This study suggested that nutrition education for high school students should be planned to provide nutrition information regarding desirable weight control as well as modifying diets and food behaviors.
In order to study the anti-stress effect of hyangbujapalmultang, several measures of stress, including body weight changes, organ weight changes and catecholamine changes. The following result have been obtained: 1. The weight loss of contol group was $28.5{\pm}1.8g$, that of sample group was $20.3{\pm}1.6g$. This differance was statistcally significant. 2.The organ weight(Liver,Spleen,Kidney,Adrenal gland) was the only significant change in the spleen, in sample group comparing to control group. 3. The norepinephrine contents of control group was $695.5{\pm}22.7pg/ml$, that of sample group was $607.4{\pm}21.7pg/ml$. This shows significant difference in sample group comparing to contol group. 4. The epinephrine contents of control group was $212.8{\pm}9.8pg/ml$, that of sample group was $182.6{\pm}8.4pg/ml$. This shows significant differance in sample group comparing to control group. 5. The dopamine contents of control group was $504.5{\pm}31.3$, that of sample group was $463.4{\pm}27.8pg/ml$. This shows the value decreased, but none of it is significant. Based on avove results, it may be conculed that hyangbujapalmultang has anti-stress effects.
This study examines the dietary life, weight control, perceived body image, self-esteem, and eating disorder of female college students residing in Korea and China. With approval by the IRB of Pusan National University, a survey was conducted in Korea and China. A total of 574 subjects participated in the survey, and they were divided into three groups: 153 Korean female college students residing in Korea (KSK), 180 Chinese female college students residing in Korea (CSK), and 241 Chinese female college students residing in China (CSC). The group of underweight subjects far exceeded the overweight and obese groups, but there was no significant difference (p<0.05). The CSC group showed the highest food intake frequency and eating habit scores, and the KSK group, the lowest (p<0.05). However, the KSK group showed the highest daily life habit score, followed by the CSK and CSC groups, in that order. All groups showed high weight control experience rates mainly for losing weight. In particular, the KSK group showed a much higher rate than the CSC and CSK groups. All groups wanted much thinner body shapes than their actual shapes, resulting in high percentages of body image dissatisfaction. The KSK group showed a higher self-esteem score than the CSC group. The average EAT-26 score was similar across the three groups, but the percentage of eating disorders was much higher in the KSK group than in the CSC and CSK groups.
The study was set for one year to measure the effects of concentrate supplementation on reproductive performances and semen quality in indigenous rams. The study was conducted at the Department of Surgery and Obstetrics, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh during the period from May 2011 to April 2012. Forteen ram lambs (4~5 months) were randomly divided into two equal groups (n=7); supplemented vs control. The animals of control group were maintained on natural grazing. Along with natural grazing the supplemented group was on supplemented feeding. The concentrate supplementation (Wheat bran, Crushed maize, Soy bean meal, Fish meal, DCP powder, Vitamin mineral premix, Salt) was provided @ 300 g/head /day to the supplemented group. Body weight, scrotal circumference, BCS and libido index were measured weekly. Age, body weight and scrotal circumference at puberty were recorded. Semen was collected once in a weak using artificial vagina and chilled at $5^{\circ}C$ for 48h for evaluation. Concentrate supplementation did not influence (p>0.05) body condition score, age, weight, scrotal circumference at puberty and libido index. Final body weight (kg), growth rate (g/d), scrotal circumference (cm) and scrotal growth rate (mm/15d) were significantly (p<0.05) higher in supplemented group of rams compared to control. Volume, concentration, motility and membrane potentiality of spermatozoa were varied significantly (p<0.05) in supplemented and control groups. However, density, mass motility, viability and sperm with normal acrosome, midpiece and tail were not differed insignificantly (p>0.05) in different observation times. It was concluded that concentrate supplementation with free grazing improved weight and scrotal circumference gain and semen production with increased quality in indigenous ram.
Body weights and blood biochemical values in chickens infected with reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV)-HI, a Korean isolate, were studied. REV-HI causes severe body weight depression in chickens inoculated but not in chicken contact-infected. Body weights of infected chickens in 3, 4, and 5 weeks after infection were 78%, 76% and 65% of those of control respectively. Blood glucose levels in REVinfected chickens were extremely high compared with those in control (226 $\geq$ 21 vs. 814 $\geq$91.3 mg/dl in week 2) during the experiment period. Triglyceride levels in REV-infected chickens were significantly higher in week 2 and 3, whereas in week 4, REV-infected chickens showed significantly lower levels than the control. Blood lipase, amylase and alkaline phosphatase levels of REV-infected chickens in week 2 were significantly higher, whereas cholesterol, magnesium and calcium values in week 4 were significantly lower than the control. Other blood biochemical values such as alkaline aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and $\gamma$-glutamyltransferase were nonsignificantly different from the control. These above results suggest that weight depression by REV may be related with increase of blood glucose, which indicated that REV-infected chickens could not use blood glucose as energy source.
