  • We implemented a CD signal processor operated on a CAV 48-speed CD-ROM drive into a VLSI. The CD signal processor is a mixed mode monolithic IC including servo-processor, data recovery, data-processor, and I-bit DAC. For servo signal processing, we included a DSP core, while, for CAV mode playback, we adopted a PLL with a wide recovery range. Data processor (DP) was designed to meet the yellow book specification.[2]So, the DP block consists of EFM demodulator, C1/C2 ECC block, audio processor and a block transferring data to an ATAPI chip. A modified Euclid's algorithm was used as a key equation solver for the ECC block To achieve the high-speed decoding, the RS decoder is operated by a pipelined method. Audio playability is increased by playing a CD-DA disc at the speed of 12X or 16X. For this, subcode sync and data are processed in the same way as main data processing. The overall performance of IC is verified by measuring a transfer rate from the innermost area of disc to the outermost area. At 48-speed, the operating frequency is 210 ㎒, and this chip is fabricated by 0.35 um STD90 cell library of Samsung Electronics.

  • The work reported here is an extensive study of tendon response to multiple cyclic tests including 3% constant peak strain level test (A-type test), 3% constant peak strain level test with two rest periods (B-type test), and 3∼4% different peak strain level test (C-type test). A sufficient number of specimens were tested at each type of the test to statistically evaluate many changes in response during testing and differences in response between each type of the test. In cyclic tests, there were decreses (relaxations) in the peak stresses and hysteresis, increases in the slack strains, and during lower peak strain level (3%) cyclic block after higher peak strain level (4%) cyclic block in the C-type tests. Considering the results of this study and those of the other study of multiple cyclic tests with rest periods by Hubbard and Chun, 1985, recovery phenomena during the rest periods occurred predominantly at the beginning of the rest periods. Consistently in both studies, the effects of rest periods were small and transient compared to the effects of the cyclic extensions. The recovery with cycles at lower peak strain level (3%) after higher peak strain level (4%) in the C-type test has not been previously documented. This recovery seems to be a natural phenomena in tissue behavior so that collagenous structures recover during periods of decreased demand.

  • This paper presents the design of a QPSK/16-QAM downstreams receiver chip. The proposed chip consists of a blind equalizer, a timing recovery block and a carrier recovery block. The blind equalizer uses a DFE sturucture using CMA(Constant Module Algorithm). The symbol timing recovery uses the modified parabolic interpolator. The decision-directed carrier recovery is used to remove the carrier frequency offset, phase offset and phase jitter. The implemented LMDS receiver can support four data rates, 10, 20, 30 and 40 Mbps and can accommodate the symbol rate up to 10 Mbaud. This symbol rate is faster than existing QAM receivers.

  • Background: Several types of receptors are found at neuromuscular presynaptic membranes. Presynaptic inhibitory $A_1$ and facilitatory $A_{2A}$ receptors mediate different modulatory functions on acetylcholine release. This study investigated whether adenosine $A_1$ receptor agonist contributes to the first twitch tension (T1) of train-of-four (TOF) stimulation depression and TOF fade during rocuronium-induced neuromuscular blockade, and sugammadex-induced recovery. Methods: Phrenic nerve-diaphragm tissues were obtained from 30 adult Sprague-Dawley rats. Each tissue specimen was randomly allocated to either control group or 2-chloroadenosine (CADO, $10{\mu}M$) group. One hour of reaction time was allowed before initiating main experimental data collection. Loading and boost doses of rocuronium were sequentially administered until > 95% depression of the T1 was achieved. After confirming that there was no T1 twitch tension response, 15 min of resting time was allowed, after which sugammadex was administered. Recovery profiles (T1, TOF ratio [TOFR], and recovery index) were collected for 1 h and compared between groups. Results: There were statistically significant differences on amount of rocuronium (actually used during experiment), TOFR changes during concentration-response of rocuronium (P = 0.04), and recovery profiles (P < 0.01) of CADO group comparing with the control group. However, at the initial phase of this experiment, dose-response of rocuronium in each group demonstrated no statistically significant differences (P = 0.12). Conclusions: The adenosine $A_1$ receptor agonist (CADO) influenced the TOFR and the recovery profile. After activating adenosine receptor, sugammadex-induced recovery from rocuronium-induced neuromuscular block was delayed.

  • Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SNHL) is defined as a sensorineural hearing loss which develops over a period of hours or few days without a definitive causes. The etiology, prognosis, and treatment of SNHL are uncertain. We reviewed records of 76 patients to investigate the efficacy of the stellate ganglion block(SGB)in SNHL. The control group(40 patients) was managed with the medication such as hypaque, heparin, steroid, nicotinic acid, and vitamine. The SGB group(27 patients) was managed with the same medication and SGB (1~2 times/day). The efficacy of treatment was evaluated by mean dB of 500, 1000, 2000 Hz on follow up pure tone audiogram. Recovery rate above 15dB was not different between SGB and the control group (52.4 v.s. 52.0%), though SGB group has much poor prognostic factors. Recovery rate was higher in a case that was treated early. Especially, the recovery rate was 100% when SGB begins within 2 weeks from the onset. Headache and profound type of audiogram were poor prognostic factors. In conclusion, SGB within 2 weeks from the onset is recommanded to improve the recovery rate.

  • In this paper, we propose a sequential motion vector recovery algorithm for H.264 video coding standard. Motion vectors of H.264 video coding standard cover relatively smaller areas than other standard, since motion estimation of H.264 takes place in the fashion of variable block size. Therefore, the correlation of motion vectors between neighboring blocks increases as the block size of motion estimation is lowered. Under the framework of sequential recovery, we introduce a motion vector recovery using $\alpha$-trimed mean filter. Experimental results show that proposed algorithm is useful in real time video delivery .with nearly comparable or better visual quality than previous approaches such as macro block boundary matching and Lagrage interpolation.

  • In this paper, the reconstruction scheme of lost block in the transmission of block coded image is proposed. Due to differential coding of dc coefficient in JPEG images when JPEG image are transmitted over wireless communications, the effect of errors can destroy entire blocks of the image. Therefore, we aim to reconstruct the lost information using correlation between the lost block and its neighbor blocks. In order to evaluate the performance of this scheme, we inserted some intentional block error into the test images. And we obtained good results objectively and subjectively by experiments.

  • Distributed compressed sensing (DCS) states that we can recover the sparse signals from very few linear measurements. Various studies about DCS have been carried out recently. In many practical applications, there is no prior information except for standard sparsity on signals. The typical example is the sparse signals have block-sparse structures whose non-zero coefficients occurring in clusters, while the cluster pattern is usually unavailable as the prior information. To discuss this issue, a new algorithm, called backtracking-based adaptive orthogonal matching pursuit for block distributed compressed sensing (DCSBBAOMP), is proposed. In contrast to existing block methods which consider the single-channel signal reconstruction, the DCSBBAOMP resorts to the multi-channel signals reconstruction. Moreover, this algorithm is an iterative approach, which consists of forward selection and backward removal stages in each iteration. An advantage of this method is that perfect reconstruction performance can be achieved without prior information on the block-sparsity structure. Numerical experiments are provided to illustrate the desirable performance of the proposed method.

  • Currently, numerous companies and institutes provide services using the Internet, and establish and operate Information Systems to manage them efficiently and reliably. The Information System implies the possibility of losing the ability to provide normal services due to a disaster or disability. It is preparing for this by utilizing a disaster recovery system. However, existing disaster recovery systems cannot perform normal recovery if files for system recovery are corrupted. In this paper, we proposed a system that can verify the integrity of the system recovery file and proceed with recovery by utilizing hyper-ledger fabric blockchain. The PBFT consensus algorithm is used to generate the blocks and is performed by the leader node of the blockchain network. In the event of failure, verify the integrity of the recovery file by comparing the hash value of the recovery file with the hash value in the blockchain and proceed with recovery. For the evaluation of proposed techniques, a comparative analysis was conducted based on four items: existing system recovery techniques and data consistency, able to data retention, recovery file integrity, and using the proposed technique, the amount of traffic generated was analyzed to determine whether it was actually applicable.

  • Effrctive analgesia after elective thoracotomy can be provided by continuous extrapleural intercostal nerve block. This study was designed to prove the effectiveness of continuous extrapleural intercostal nerve block. Twenty patients undergoing elective thoracotomy were randomized into two groups. Group I received lumbar epidural block[N=10] and group II received continuous extrapleural intercostal nerve block[N=10]. Postoperative pain relief was assessed on Numeric Rating Scale[NRS] and recovery of pulmonary function was assessed by coparison of preoperatrive and postoperative FVC[Forced Vital Capacity], FEV1[Forced expiratory Volume in 1 second], VC[Vital Capacity]. Arterial blood gas analysis[ABGA], vital signs and amount of additive analgesics were compared also. No significant difference was observed between the groups concerning these parameters mentioned above. Systemic complications, such as urinary retention[2/10] and weakness of lower extremity[2/10], occurred in group I but no complication occurred in group II. We conclude that continuous extrapleural intercostal nerve block is as effective as epidural block in pain relief and restoration of pulmonary mechanics with fewer comlications. Also because of it`s ease and safetiness, this must be considered as a substitute of epidural block in routine use for thoracotomy pain relief.
