Effect of Blending Materials on the Durability of Concrete (I) Diffusion of Cl-ions through Hardened Cement Paste (염분환경하 콘크리트 경화체의 내구성에 미치는 혼합재의 영향 (I) 시멘트 경화체중에서의 Cl-이온의 확산)

  • Apparent diffusion coefficients of Cl-ions through hardened cement paste(HCP), which were partly substituted blending materials, were determined. Also, pore solution was extracted from HCP which were immersed in NaCl solution, and Cl- concentration of the solution were analyzed. Partly substitution of pozzolanic materials considerably reduced the diffusion rate for Cl-ions and Cl- concentration of pore solution. Binding capacity of Cl- is related to the content of Al2O3 and pozzolanic reactivity.

Study on the Composting of Swine Manure using Wood Chip as a Bulking Agent (목편을 이용한 돈분 퇴비화에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the feasibility of composting of swine manure with wood chips as a bulking agent. To evaluate the optimum blending ratio of wood chip to swine manure three levels of wood chip such as 100, 150, and 200% were blended on a volume basis with 100% of swine manure was used to determine the effect of wood chip compared with sawdust as a bulking agent on composting. The maximum temperature reached during composting was 70, 58, 48, 72$^{\circ}C$ at blending ratio of 100, 150, 200, and 50WC+50SD%, respectively. The bulk density of compost was increased extremely with increasing the blending level of wood chip. The C/N ratio of final compost ranged from 18.25 to 19.82 . Heavy metal contents in the final compost were in the range of 0.05∼0.16 mg/kg, 5,86∼10.95 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg, and 295∼440 mg/kg for Cd, Hg, and Cu, respectively. It was concluded that the blending ratio of 200:100 of wood chip and manure by volume was satisfactory for swine manure composting.

  • In order to provide fundamental information for developing reaction model in the practical blended coal power plants, effects of particle size and blending ratio on combustion characteristics and thermal reaction in co-firing with bituminous and sub-bituminous coals were experimentally investigated using a TGA and a laboratory-scale burner. Characteristic parameters including ignition, burnout temperature and activation energy were determined from TG and DTG combustion profiles. Distributions of flame length and mean particle temperature were investigated from the visualization of flames in slit-burner system. As coal particle size decreased and volatile matter content increased, characteristic temperatures and activation energy decreased. The ignition/burnout characteristics and activation energy are linearly influenced by a variation in particle size and blending ratio. These results indicated that the control of the coal blending ratio can improve the combustion efficiency for sub-bituminous coals and the ignition characteristics for bituminous coals.

  • The objective of this work is to analyze the macroscopic behavior of spray and injection characteristics on the DME blended biodiesel at different mixing ratios by using spray visualization and injection rate measurement system. The spray images were analyzed to a spray tip penetration, a spray cone angle and a spray area distribution at various mixing ratio of DME by weight. The influence of different injection pressure and ambient pressure on the fuel spray characteristics are investigated for the various injection parameters. In order to analyze the injection characteristics of test fuels, the fuel injection rate is measured at various blending ratio. The variation of viscosity of the blended fuel by the mixing of DME fuel shows the improved effect of spray developments. Also, it was found that the injection quantities of high blended ratio were larger than that of lower blended fuel. Also, higher blending fuel showed a faster evaporation than that of mixing ratio of test fuel because kinetic viscosity was changed by blending ratio.

High-quality Stitching Method of 3D Multiple Dental CT Images (3차원 다중 치과 CT 영상의 고화질 스티칭 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a high-quality stitching method of 3D multiple dental CT images. First, a weighted function is generated using the difference of two distance functions that calculate a distance from the nearest edge of an overlapped region to each position. And a blending ratio propagation function for two gradient vectors is parameterized by the difference and magnitude of gradient vectors that is also applied by the weighted function. When the blending ratio is propagated, an improved region growing scheme is proposed to decide the next position and calculate the blending intensity. The proposed method produces a high-quality stitching image. Our method removes the seam artifact caused by the mean intensity difference between images and vignetting effect. And it removes double edges caused by local misalignment. Experimental results showed that the proposed method produced high-quality stitching images for ten patients. Our stitching method could be usefully applied into the stitching of 3D or 2D multiple images.

  • The engine performance and combustion characteristics of methanol blended fuel in a multiple-point electronic control gasoline engine were discussed on the basis of experimental investigation. The effects of methanol blending fuel on combustion in cylinder were investigated under various conditions of engine cycle and blending ratio. The results showed that the engine performance was influenced by the methanol blended ratio. The results showed that the engine performance was influenced by the methanol blending ratio and the variations of operating conditions of test engine. The increase of blended fuel brought on the improvement of emission characteristics such as THC, CO, and NOx concentration. The effect of methanol blended fuel on the fuel consumption rate and the other characteristics of performance were discussed.

  • Blending various coals during the coke making process affects the quality of coke as well as the total energy required for the process. The mathematical model based on Merrick's work developed to predict the effect of blending coals on coke making process. The Crank-Nicholson method was used to solve the model equation to predict temperature distributions, a coking time, and a total energy required during the process. The developed model successfully applied to Kwang-Yang Steel Company's coke oven to validate the model performance. It is hoped that the model can serve as a guidelines on how to blend coals during the process.

Effect of Acrylonitrile Content on the Glass Transition Temperature and Melt Index of PVC/SAN Blends

  • PVC and SAN are often mixed to compensate for the disadvantages of each polymer. Miscibility and thermal stability of PVC/SAN blend were investigated in this study by blending SAN polymer having 20, 24, 28, 32 % of acrylonitrile contents. Two polymers were mixed using a melt blending method with a single screw extruder. DSC thermogram was used to evaluate miscibility of the two polymers. SAN having 24 % of acrylonitrile showed the best miscibility with PVC. In order to evaluate degradation behavior, blended polymer was heat treated in DSC furnace and glass transition temperature was measured consecutively. Glass transition temperature increased continuously with annealing time due to degradation and cross-linking of polymer chains. Melt index of blended polymer was always higher than that of PVC.

The effects of methanol blending fuel on combustion in cylinder were investigated under various conditions of engine cycle and blending ratio. The results showed that the engine performance was influenced by the methanol blending ratio and the variations of operating conditions of test engine. The increase of fuel temperature brought on the improvement of combustion characteristics such as cylinder pressure, the rate of pressure rise and heat release in an engine. The burning rate of fuel-air mixture, the exhaust emissions and the other characteristics of performance were discussed also.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the spray characteristics of commercial biodiesel fuel at various fuel injection conditions. To examine the effect of various factors on the development of a biodiesel sprays, experiments were conducted at the various injection pressures, ambient pressures and blending ratio of bio-diesel fuels. As a result of experimental study, it was shown that the increase of blending ratio of biodiesel had little influence on spray behaviors under applied fuel injection condition in this study. Because macroscopic characteristics of biodiesel-blended diesel fuel were almost same as that of petrodiesel fuels, it was found that the commercial biodisel is applicable to conventional diesel engine.
