Structural Characteristics and Properties of Silk Fibroin/Polyurethane Blend Films

  • In this paper, silk fibroin (SF)/polyurethane (PU) blend films were fabricated to develop a new biomaterial for biomedical applications. These blend films were prepared using formic acid as a cosolvent, and structural characteristics and properties of blend films were investigated. FTIR results suggested that there was no specific interaction between SF and PU, implying molecular immiscibility in SF/PU blend films. Furthermore, it was revealed by XRD method that the crystalline region of blend components was not perturbed by counterpart polymers. The degree of phase separation of SF/PU blend films was diminished by increasing PU content in blend. Especially, the blend with 70% content of PU showed no evidence of macro-phase separation in SEM observation. However, SF/PU blend (70/30) was revealed to be phase-separated in a lower dimension confirmed by DMTA measurement. TGA result showed that thermal decomposition temperature of blend film was slightly decreased compared to those of SF and PU polymer itself, Though mechanical properties of SF/PU blend films were not good enough due to the solvent, blood compatibility of PU can be enhanced markedly by mixing with SF for SF/PU blend film.

Incorporating Grapefruit Seed Extract into Gelidium corneum-Whey Protein Isolate Blend Packaging Film Increases the Shelf Life of Fish Paste

  • The Gelidium corneum (GC)-whey protein isolate (WPI) blend film containing grapefruit seed extract (GSE) was prepared by incorporating different amounts (0, 0.02, 0.04, 0.08, 0.1%) of GSE into the film. The film's tensile strength (TS) and water vapor permeability (WVP) were improved by the addition of GSE. The film containing 0.1% GSE had a TS of 3.27 MPa, whereas the control had 2.64 MPa. WVP of the film was also significantly decreased by the addition of GSE. Addition of 0.1% GSE decreased the populations of Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, and Salmonella Typhimurium by 1.0, 1.6, and 0.6 log CFU/g, respectively, compared to the control. Fish paste was packed with the GC-WPI blend film containing GSE, and microbial change in the fish paste inoculated with E. coli O157:H7, L. monocytogenes, and S. Typhimurium during storage was examined. Populations of E. coli O157:H7, L. monocytogenes, and S. Typhimurium were decreased by 0.60, 0.48, and 0.85 log CFU/g, after 7 day of storage, respectively. These results suggest packaging fish paste in the GC-WPI blend film containing GSE can extend the shelf life.

키토산/피브로인 블렌드에 있어서 브롬화 리튬의 효과 (Effect of Lithium Bromide on Chitosan/Fibroin Blend)

  • 키토산/피브로인 블렌드의 구조와 물성에 미치는 브롬화 리튬의 효과를 고찰하기 위하여, 브롬화 리튬을 함유한 용액으로 성형한 키토산/피브로인 블렌드 필름과 성형 시 브롬화 리튬을 제거한 블렌드 필름의 구조적 특성을 조사하였다. 키토산/피브로인 블렌드는 용해된 브롬/리튬이온과 더불어 복합체를 형성하였고, 0.6 mol/L의 LiBr 농도에서 X-선 회절에 의한 복합체의 결정성을 보였으며, 이온 농도가 증가할수록 결정성은 감소되었다. 복합체 용액으로부터 고화 시중화 및 삼투작용으로 브롬화 리튬을 제거한 블렌드 필름의 결정은 키토산의 수화형 결정상을 형성하였으며, 브롬화 리튬을 처리하지 않은 것에 비하여 결정성이 크게 증가하였다. 복합체에 의한 블렌드 필름은 자중의 수십 배의 물을 흡수하여 수화겔을 형성하였다.

Preparation and Dyeing of Superfine Down-powder/Viscose Blend Film

  • Superfine down-powder/viscose blend films were prepared and characterized for their dyeing properties. Down-powder with average size of $2.56{\mu}m$ were suspended in viscose dope and blend films were obtained by solution casting. When the blend films were dyed with acid dye, the dye uptake and K/S values increased with the increase in down-powder content. Amino-acid analyses showed that amino acid component of the down were not affected during the film formation, which confirmed the changes of dye uptake and K/S value.

  • Structural and thermal characteristics of silk fibroin/poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)(PHEMA) blend films were investigated using FTIR, X-ray diffractometer, differential scanning calorimeter, thermogravimeter and scanning electron microscope. FTIR spectra showed that the conformation of silk fibroin prepared by dissolving in formic acid was $\beta$-sheet, which did not affected by blending with PHEMA. The X-ray diffraction patterns also showed that individual crystalline structure of silk fibroin and PHEMA was not affected for the blend films. The initial thermal decomposition temperature of silk fibroin/PHEMA blend film tends to be higher than either of silk fkbroin or PHEMA. Thermal stability of both polymers, more notably PHEMA, can be improved by blending two components. As a result of SEM observation, the phases separation for silk fibroin/PHEMA blend films occured regardless of blend ratio ; continuous and dispersed phase were silk fibroin and PHEMA component, respectively.

  • The morphology of silk fibroin/poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)blend films was investigated using optical microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy. The effects of blend ratio and molecular weight of silk fibroin and PVA on phase separation were studied. Macro-phase separation occurred for the silk fibroin-rich/poor region whereas micro-phase separation took place for the dispersed/continuous phase, In spite of differences in molecular weight and blend ratio, it is observed that the dispersed phase and continuous one are composed of silk fibroin and PVA component, respectively. As the molecular weight of silk fibroin and silk fibroin content in blend ratio are decreased, the compatibility of blend is increased due to the reduction of micro-phase separation.

  • 본 연구는 보호콜로이드로 PVA를 사용한 PVAc 에멀젼 폴리머와 VAE 에멀젼 폴리머 블렌드에 관한 것으로 보호콜로이드로 사용된 PVA는 블렌드 전의 각각의 에멀젼 폴리머 필름과 블렌드 후의 필름에서도 연속상으로 존재하였다. 이는 블렌드를 구성하는 입자사이에서 뛰어난 접착력을 예상하게 한다. Tg가 서로 다른 에멀젼 폴리머 블렌드는 중요한 관심 대상이며 PVAc/VAE 에멀젼 폴리머 블렌드는 이 중 간단하면서도 또 다른 뛰어난 연구 방향을 제시하였다. 혼합 결과, PVAc 증가에 따라 신율이 저하되었고, PVAc 제조에 사용된 가소제가 혼합물의 Tg에 영향을 미쳐 PVAc 가소제의 VAE 에멀젼 폴리머으로의 이행으로 인하여 VAE 에멀젼 폴리머의 Tg를 저하시켰고, 인장강도 및 내열성, 접착력에서 두 혼합물의 상승효과가 나타났다.

키토산의 분자량에 따른 PVA/Chitosan 블랜드필름의 제조와 토양분해 실험 (Pot Test and Preparation of PVA/Chitosan Blending Film Accoding to Molecular Weight of Chitosan)

  • Chitin is known as biodegradable natural polymer. But, in spite of various application of chitin from waste marine sources, commercial use of chitin has been limited due to highly resistance to chemicals and the absense of proper solvents. We made various viscosity of chitosan from chitin by change of Mima's method through the deacetylation which is various condition of NaOH concentration, reaction time and temperature. Also, Polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan blend films were prepared by different solution blends containing the ratio of 5, 10, 15 and 20% chitosan and low, medium, high molecular weight of chitosan to find a more useful biodegradable polymer. Thermal and mechanical properties of PVA/chitosan blend films such as DSC, impact strength, tensile strength and morphological changes by SEM were determined. The 10-15% PVA/chitosan(low, medium) blend films were similar to PVA. Also, PVA/chitosan blend films at the laboratory soil test(Pot Test) were completely degraded in month with four kinds of soils by microorganisms.

폴리에스테르 공중합체의 Fabrication 연구 (Ⅵ) -PET/PETG 공중합체 블렌드의 연신조건에 따른 물리적 특성- (A Study on Fabrication of Polyester Copolymers (Ⅵ) -Physical Properties of PET/PETG Copolymer Blend by the Drawing Conditions-)

  • 블렌드 (PET/PETG 70/30 블렌드) 수지는 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트 (PET)와 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트 글리콜 (PETG)을 무게 비 70/30으로 혼합하여, 이축 압출기를 사용하여 제조하였다. 미연신 필름은 이 블렌드와 순수 PETG 수지를 압축성형기로 각각 용융 압축시켜 제조하였고 연신 필름은 미연신 필름을 모세관 레오메타를 사용하여 연신시켜 제조하였다. 제조된 블렌드 연신 필름과 PETG 연신 필름의 결정성, 수축율, 열적, 동역학적 및 기계적 특성을 X-선 회절분석기, 오븐기, DSC, 및 인장시험기를 사용하여 조사하였다. 블렌드와 PETG필름의 결정화도와 밀도는 연신비와 연신 속도의 증가와 더불어 증가하였으나 반면 연신 온도 증가와 더불어 감소하였다 또한 블렌드 필름의 결정화도와 밀도는 PETG 필름보다 높게 나타났다. 두 필름의 인장강도와 인장탄성률은 연신비 및 연신 속도 증가와 더불어 증가하였고 연신온도 증가에 따라 감소하였다. 또한 블렌드 필름의 인장강도와 인장탄성률이 PETG 필름 보다 높게 나타났다. 두 필름의 수축율은 연신비와 연신 속도가 증가할수록 감소하였고 미연신 블렌드 필름의 수축율이 순수 PET 필름보다 600% 증가함을 보였다.
