Effects on Mechanical Strength Improvement of Liner Paper using Recycled Fibres from Waste Cotton Clothes (폐 면직물 재활용 섬유를 이용한 라이너지의 강도개선 효과)

  • The physical and chemical properties of recycled fibers from mixed waste paper are more and more deteriorated because of unknown history of recycling times. In order to improve the mechanical properties of liner paper, the recycled fibers from wasted cotton clothes were used in papermaking process, and their applicabilities were evaluated in several points of fiber modification. Thus, two kinds of fiberizing methods from waste cotton clothes were considered by using rotary sandpaper and grinder mill. Finally, the rotary sandpaper method was relatively desirable in preserving longer fiber length and fibrillated fiber surface. The recycled cotton fibers by swelling treatment with NaOH and bleaching with reductive chemicals were mixed with OCC fibers, and the handsheets were prepared to basis weight of $80g/m^2$ and evaluated the mechanical properties of paper. The fibrous properties showed outstanding results in freeness and WRV improvements by alkali treatment and high brightness by reductive bleaching treatment. The physical and mechanical properties of sheet by mixing OCC fibers and recycled cotton fibers were also highly improved in tensile, burst strength and specially folding resistance.

Self-Organized Dynamics of Photoinduced Phase Grating formation in Optical Fibers (광 섬유내의 광유도 위상격자가 형성되는 자기조직 역학에 관한 연구)

  • The dynamics of phase grating formation with visible light in an optical fiber is investigated. Adopting a simple two-photon local bleaching model, it is shown that the grating self-organize into an ideal grating, where the writing frequency is always in the center of the local band gap, as it evolves. The evolution at each point in the fiber is described in terms of a universal parameter that reduces the coupled partial differential equations describing the system to ordinary differential equatior~s. These equations are used to prove that there exists a fixed point of the grating growth process that corresponds to a perfectly phase-mached grating.

  • This study was attempted to develop the Special Sheet Former for Hanji (Korean Traditional Paper), which could be easily used anyone who has no any special skill, and to evaluate its sheet forming characteristics. The sheet former for Hanji was designed, manufactured and tested its sheet forming features. This former was resulted in superior even basis weights and good formation of sheets without any special technological experiences, but poor consolidation according to the difficulty of web pressing during dewatering process. Sulfomethylated pulping resulted in the superior pulp with high yield and better quality compared to those of alkali and alkali-peroxide pulps. Since the pulp was so bright, there was almost no need additional bleaching.

  • Pulps were separated from wood chips using an Electron beam irradiation (EBI) treatment without a NaOH-AQ (anthraquinone) treatment for cooking. The methods were based on a hot water treatment after EBI and two-step bleaching processes. Chemical compositions and FT-IR spectroscopy demonstrated that the content of lignin and hemicellulose in the bleached wood pulps treated with various EBI dose decreased with an increase of EBI doses. Specifically, the lignin in the bleached with pulps treated at 600 kGy of EBI dose was almost completely removed. Moreover, TGA analysis showed that a thermal stability increased with increasing the content of cellulose but the lignin decomposed slowly over the wide region.

  • In order to confirm the creation of the OH radical which influences to RNO bleaching processes, it experimented using laboratory reactor of dielectric barrier discharge plasma (DBDP). The experiments performed in about 4 kind process variables (diameter of ground electrode, diameter of discharge electrode, diameter of quartz tube and effect of air flow rate) which influence to process. In order to examine optimum conditions of design factors as shown in Box-Behnken experiment design, ANOVA analysis was conducted against four factors. The actual RNO removal at optimized conditions under real design constraints were obtained, confirming Box-Behnken results. Optimized conditions under real design constraints were obtained for the highest desirability at 1, 1 mm diameter of ground and discharge electrode, 6 mm diameter of quartz tube and 5.05 L/min air flow rate, respectively.

  • ${\alpha}$-sulfonated fatty acid methyl esters[$C_mH_{2m+1}CH(SO_3Na)COOC_nH_{2n+1}$], where hydrophobic group has carbon number of 12~18, were prepard by sulfonation of fatty acid methylester. The mole ratio of $SO_3$ to ester used was 1.3 and the reaction temperature was $70{\sim}90^{\circ}C$. The yield was found to be 97% by mixed gas reaction of inactive gas/gaseous $SO_3$. Studies on bleaching and neutralization processes in the pilot scale provided conditions applicable to industrial synthesis process.

Improvement of Bleaching Performance of Photosensitive Electrochromic Device by the Additive of TEMPOL (TEMPOL 첨가제 적용에 의한 광감응형 전기변색 소자 탈색성능 향상)

  • We have developed photosensitive electrochromic smart windows that does not require any transparent conducting oxide (TCO) substrate. In our previous study, we demonstrated that a flexible film-type device made with a low temperature curing WO3 sol and TiO2 sol could show a reversible and rapid switching between colored and bleached state via incorporation of platinum catalysts on the surface of WO3 layer. However, when these devices were exposed to sunlight over 4 hour, it was confirmed that they did not return to fully bleached state in the darkened state due to their overcoloring process. In this study, we added 4-hydroxy-(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl)oxyl (TEMPOL) as an additive to the electrolyte of photosensitive electrochromic device to effectively prevent the undesired overcoloring process. The resulting device with TEMPOL indeed did not undergo excessive coloration and showed great reversibility even after being exposed to sunlight for over 4 hours. Various concentrations of TEMPOL were applied to compare changes in the visible transmittance and coloring/bleaching kinetics of devices. In terms of energetic point of view, we proposed a plausible mechanism of TEMPOL to prevent excessive coloration.

Studies on the Asplund Pulping of Wood for Paper Pulp(II) -Effect of some cellulose stabilizers added to the alkaline chip-treatment and the peroxide bleaching on the quality of larchwood asplund pulps- (제지용(製紙用) 아스플룬드펄프 제조(製造)에 관한 연구(II) -일본 잎갈나무��의 알카리 전처리(前處理)와 아스플룬드 펄프의 과산화물(過酸化物) 표백(漂白)에서 셀룰로오스 안정제(安定劑)의 영향(影響)에 관하여-)

  • A Japanese larch has been reforested very much in Korea, but it is not used as a wood resources for paper pulp by now. So this study is carried out to utilize the larchwood for paper pulp manufacture through the Asplund pulping process. The experiment on increasing in the brightness of the pulp is made through the addition of $MgSO_4$, $ZnSO_4$, $Al_2(SO_4)_3$, and KI as a cellulose stabilizer in chip treatment with caustic soda which is followed by high-temperature defibration and conventional peroxide bleaching (5% NaOH plus 2% additive salt per wood in cold pretreatment), or in high-consistency (30%) pulp bleaching of hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid (100% acitve oxygen per lignin) for conventional one. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The solution of 0.5% additive salts had different pH by the sort of bases that was pH 5.7 in $MgSO_4$, liquor, pH 4.9 for $ZnSO_4$, and pH 2.9 for $Al_2(SO_4)_3$, and in the precepitation of bases which ranged to pH 6-13 for $MgSO_4$, pH 5-12 for $ZnSO_4$, and pH 3-10 for $Al_2(SO_4)_3$. 2. The cellulose stabilizer affective in high-consistency peroxide bleaching was KI, $MgSO_4$, and $ZnSO_4$, but has made a little improvement in de lignification and brightness of pulp in comparison with no addition. 3. The higher alkalinity in the chip treatment has made the higher strength and brightness of larchwood Aspiund pulp instead of downing the pulp yield. And the effective compound for cellulose stabilizer in caustic soda pretreatment of chip was $ZnSO_4$, $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ and KI in order for the conventional peroxide bleaching after Asplund pulping. 4. Therefore, the more effective additives for cellulose stabilization in high-temperature defibration of larchwood suppose to be $ZnSO_4$, $Al_2(SO_4)_3$, and KI, while KI and $MgSO_4$ for peroxide bleaching.

Reason and Prevention of Color Reversion of Corn Oil in Summer (옥수수기름의 하절기 변색현상 원인규명 및 방지대책)

  • Crude corn oil (CCO) was obtained through the expression-extraction process from corn germ. The CCOs of final process at $90^{\circ}C,\;70^{\circ}C\;and\;50^{\circ}C$ were stored in outdoor storage tanks. From the samples, refined CCO (RCCO) were prepared with $0\%,\;10\%\;and\;20\%$ excessive of phosphoric acid, caustic solution and acidic clay were used in degumming-alkali refining-bleaching process. RCCOs were stored at room temperature in dark places. The color change was not effected by the amount of phosphoric acid, caustic solution and acidic clay, but temperature of process affects the color change. Finally, the prevention for color reversion of RCCO could be obtained by lowering the temperature of final process and optimal temperature of RCCO in summer was found about less than $50^{\circ}C$.

A Study on the Environment-friendly Textile Products (환경친화적 섬유제품에 관한 연구)

  • This study discusses the concept on environment-friendly textile products, environmentally oriented processes of fiber and fabric production, and case reports of environments-friendly products. This study may inspire recognition and necessity of environment-friendly textile products to textile industry and designers ,and also develop the consideration of environmental aspects in the field of textile design and fashion design. Environment-friendly textile products mean not only natural products but also the products reduced the environmentally harmful consequences of their production processes. Because the textile production processes may cause environmental problem. the processes of bleaching, dyeing, mercerising, proofing, and establishing must be carefully controlled. These environment-friendly textile products in this study are divided into development of environment-friendly textile products, recycled textile products, products which are produced by environmentally oriented processes, and recycling capacity in the process of the coming into use. If the textile industrialists and its designers are continuously interested in those environment-friendly products, the textile industrialists produce environment-friendly products in manufacturing process, and the textile and the fashion designers design their products having the conciousness of environment. They reduce environmental pollution caused by producing textile products and are survived in the struggle of existence of the future world trade market.
