Recently, most of limestone quarries have been not mined by open-pit mining but by underground excavation to reduce environmental pollution. As a result, the size of underground galleries became bigger to maintain mass-production close to open-pit mining. However, the scale of pillars and galleries as well as the excavation methods may induce a few adverse problems for the stability of a mined gallery. In this study, the nomogram analysis and the prediction of rock damage zone induced by blasting were carried out. The testing conditions include concurrent blasting of two adjacent galleries, concurrent blasting of a transport drift and a inclined shaft, sequential blasting of two galleries, and separate blasting for each gallery. For each testing condition, blast vibration velocity was measured and analyzed. From the prediction formulas for blast vibration velocity derived in this study, the maximum depth of rock damage zone induced by blasting were also predicted.
The need to accurate quantification of blast pressure loading in the near field is important because the focus of security design of critical infrastructure, buildings and bridges is for near-field detonations. Incident and reflected pressures for near-field detonations are very difficult to be measured by commercially available pressure transducers due to the high pressure and temperature, which requires a verified and validated computational fluid dynamics code to reasonably predict the near-field pressures and impulses. This paper presents numerical studies to verify and validate a CFD code for calculations of incident and reflected overpressures and impulses. The near field is emphasized and recommendations for mesh sizes to optimally simulate the near-field detonation are provided.
We investigate a series of synthesized ${\beta}$-methoxyacrylate analogues for their 3D QSAR & HQSAR against Magnaporthe grisea (Rice Blast Disease). We perform the three-dimensional Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (3D-QSAR) studies, using the comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) procedure. In addition, we carry out a two-dimensional Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (2D-QSAR) study, using the Hologram QSAR (HQSAR). We perform these studies, using 53 compounds as a training set and 10 compounds as a test set. The predictive QSAR models have conventional $r^2$ values of 0.955 at CoMFA, 0.917 at CoMSIA, and 0.910 at HQSAR respectively; similarly, we obtain cross-validated coefficient $q^2$ values of 0.822 at CoMFA, 0.763 at CoMSIA, and 0.816 at HQSAR, respectively. From these studies, the CoMFA model performs better than the CoMSIA model.
In our study, the PTFE nozzle ablation in the high-voltage self-blast type $SF_6$ gas circuit breaker was investigated. The test circuit breaker has the structure that the pin electrode is moving and the pressure reservoir volume and the dimension is almost same as commercial 145kv 40kA circuit breaker for similar result in real circuit breaker. The variation of current and arcing time was the range of $36kA_{rms}$(symmetry) - $40kA_{rms}$(asymmetry) and 10-16 ms. From the measured data the tendecy of the mass loss of the nozzle to current load and arc energy was estimated. In this process, the distance from the arc to nozzle(PTFE) surface, area which was exposed to arc and stroke contour was considered. These results will be used to enhance the accuracy of the computational fluid dynamics analysis in circuit breaker and estimate the residual life time of a circuit breaker.
In this paper, the blasting load has been calculated using Input Identification method and measured data in borehole blasting to reflect the exact blast behavior and soil vibration. The fitness of calculated blasting load is examined by comparing measured data and results of numerical analysis. According to the results, blasting load estimated by Input Identification method was more adequate than proposed blasting pressure equation in the reflection of blast behavior and soil vibration. In addition, it showed more reasonable results at the evaluation of structure's vibration in the 3D finite element method.
Stereophotogrammetry is used to extract spatial information of an object by constructing a stereo-image from two or more photos. In this study, stereophotogrammetry was adopted for analyzing blast fragmentation of rock blocks in a quarry site. 2D image processing and stereophotogrammetry were applied to the fragmentation analysis of rock blocks horizontally scattered in a laboratory, and their results were compared with physical measurements using a water tank. Fragmentation of rock muckpiles was estimated in laboratory and field tests by using the stereophotogrammetry and statistical analysis.

To explore the distribution and the resistance reaction of rice blast pathogens that may occur in North Korea, rice blast pathogens in the North Korean border regions of Dandong and Yeon-gil in China and the North Korean border region of Cheorwon in South Korea were analyzed. In addition, comparative analysis was conducted with rice blast pathogen in Suwon and Jeonju, inland regions of South Korea. Resistance reactions above average were observed in monogenic rice lines (IRBLzt-T, IRBL9-W, IRBL20-IR24, and IRBLta-CP1) in Jeonju, Suwon, and Cheorwon from 2018 to 2020. In Dandong and Yeon-gil, the monogenic lines IRBLz5-CA, IRBL12-M, and IRBL19-A consistently showed resistance reactions for three years. Notably, IRBL19-A exhibited strong resistance. Race distribution analysis in South Korea indicated a shift from KI to KJ dominance from 2018 to 2020, while in the North Korean border regions of Dandong and Yeon-gil, the KI race was dominant in 2021 and 2022. The race distribution of rice blast pathogens in China's North Korean border regions differed significantly from that in South Korea.
Rice blast is a major plant disease that occurs worldwide and significantly reduces rice yields. Rice blast disease occurs periodically in Korea, causing significant socio-economic damage due to the unique status of rice as a major staple crop. A disease outbreak prediction system is required for preventing rice blast disease. Epidemiological investigations of disease outbreaks can aid in decision-making for plant disease management. Currently, plant disease prediction and epidemiological investigations are mainly based on quantitatively measurable, structured data such as crop growth and damage, weather, and other environmental factors. On the other hand, text data related to the occurrence of plant diseases are accumulated along with the structured data. However, epidemiological investigations using these unstructured data have not been conducted. The useful information extracted using unstructured data can be used for more effective plant disease management. This study analyzed news articles related to the rice blast disease through text mining to investigate the years and provinces where rice blast disease occurred most in Korea. Moreover, the average temperature, total precipitation, sunshine hours, and supplied rice varieties in the regions were also analyzed. Through these data, it was estimated that the primary causes of the nationwide outbreak in 2020 and the major outbreak in Jeonbuk region in 2021 were meteorological factors. These results obtained through text mining can be combined with deep learning technology to be used as a tool to investigate the epidemiology of rice blast disease in the future.

Even though high performance concrete was developed according to the trend of bigger and higher of reinforced concrete building, the rheological evaluations such as viscosity, yield stress are not enough to use as input data to accomplish the numerical analysis for the construction design. So there are many problems in the harden concrete such as poor compaction, rock pocket and crack, etc. in the field. In this study, consistency curves were measured by the viscometer as hydration reaction time passed. At the same time the slump flow test and Vicat setting test were carried out for comparing with the results of rheological properties. The fluidity of the W/B 30% decreased as the increase of replacement ratio of blast furnace slag. But in case of W/B 40%, the replacement ration did not significantly influenced to the slump flow value with the passage of hydration time. By the replacement of blast furnace slag to cement, initial setting was delayed and the time gap between initial and final setting became shorten. Through the regression analysis using Bingham model, there are a sudden changes of viscosity and yield stress around initial setting in case of low W/B 30%. The increase of workability by the change of free water in cement paste was offset by the coating effect of impermeable layer in case of W/B 40%.

Double-leaf blast-resistant doors consisting of steel box and slab are application-specific structures installed at the entrances of protective facilities. In these structural systems, certain spacing is provided between the door and wall. However, variation in the boundary condition and structural behavior due to this spacing are not properly considered in the explosion analysis and design. In this study, the structural response and failure behavior based on two variables such as the spacing and blast pressure were analyzed using the finite element method. The results revealed that the two variables affected the overall structural behavior such as the maximum and permanent deflections. The degree of contact due to collision between the door and wall and the impact force applied to the door varied according to the spacing. Hence, the shear-failure behavior of the concrete slab was affected by this impact force. Doors with spacing of less than 10 mm were vulnerable to shear failure, and the case of approximately 15-mm spacing was more reasonable for increasing the flexural performance. For further study, tests and numerical research on the structural behavior are needed by considering other variables such as specifications of the structural members and details of the slab shear design.
