Finite element analysis of the artery and PTFE end-to-side anastomosis with $45^{\circ}$ anastomotic angle. ($45^{\circ}$ 문합각을 가진 동맥과 PTFE 단측 문합의 유한요소해석.)

  • Von Mises stress and compliance distribution was evaluated using a finite element analysis on the anastomosis of an artery with length of 20mm, inner diameter of 4mm, thickness of 0.5mm and a PTFE graft with length of 5.7mm, Inner diameter of 2mm. thickness of 0.2mm. When anastomotic angle was taken as $45^{\circ}$ and inner pressure of $1330\;dyne/mm^2$ was applied inside the 2 conduits. From the analysis results were obtained as follows. (1)Artery diameter increased in both horizontal x and vertical y directions and the magnitude of that in x direction was bigger than in y direction. (2) The compliance was maximum on the anastomosis. especially on that with acute angle. This reduced approaching to the right or left end. (3) The equivalent stress was maximum on top in the y direction and winimum on the nodes around $110^{\circ}$ in circumferential direction from the top. (4) The equivalent stress was maximum in the vicinity of anastomosis with acute angle along the longitudinal direction of the artery. This trend was also observed along the PTFE graft.

  • We implementated an ultrasonic wave cane for the blind. The cane detect walking obstacle and provide a walking direction. The cane used time of flight method of ultrasonic-wave for a measurement of obstacle distance and fluxgate geomagnetic sensor for guidance of walking direction. This system can detect an obstacle of upward, forward, downward and that warn to the blind with vibration, pitch sound. And the blind can know walking direction to voice output. As a result, the blind could efficiently avoid a exposed obstacle, obstacles beyond knee, an exposed street obstacle, a branch of tree person's height and it is usable search for surrounding land mark.

  • The intelligent trajectory control method that controls moving direction and average velocity for a prosthetic arm is proposed by pattern recognition and force estimations using EMG signals. Also, we propose the real time trajectory planning method which generates continuous accelleration paths using 3 stage linear filters to minimize the impact to human body induced by arm motions and to reduce the muscle fatigue. We use combination of MLP and fuzzy filter for pattern recognition to estimate the direction of a muscle and Hogan's method for the force estimation. EMG signals are acquired by using a amputation simulator and 2 dimensional joystick motion. The simulation results of proposed prosthetic arm control system using the EMG signals show that the arm is effectively followed the desired trajectory depended on estimated force and direction of muscle movements.

  • The proposed tracking algorithm approaches geometrical method or position, direction, width of vessel. This algorithm using continuity of vessel in spatial coordinates used to determine direction of the center point, after estimating boundary point in dynamic region. Therefore the tracking of vessel's contour is tracked contour as direction of entire contour in coronary artery. This algorithm is automatically processed by DIP as a compared with conventional method, because searching area varies adaptively to allocate searching region from extracted information at past. And ML estimation expressed robust method or angiography as evaluating sample values after preprocessing.

  • In medicine, general clinical practice moves in the direction of early detection and intervention for the prevention of progressive disease. In psychiatry, research in subjects with the risk syndrome for psychosis, has been conducted for the prevention of schizophrenia, known as a devastating chronic disease. The inclusion of 'attenuated psychosis syndrome', based on the results of early intervention studies, is one of the major issues in the upcoming DSM-V. Further investigations are needed to find biological markers and endophenotypes to supplement the diagnostic criteria. In the future, adoption of clinical staging is promising to overcome the shortcoming of current diagnosis of schizophrenia. In clinical practice, more concerns are needed about attenuated psychotic symptoms which might be risk signals for the transition to psychosis.

Effects of Inverted Incubation on Adventitious Root Formation in Epicotyl Cuttings of Vigna angularis Owhiet Ohashi (팥의 유경절편에서 부정근형성에대한 도립배양의 효과)

  • Disbudded epicotyl cuttings from light-grown 6-day-old seedings of Vigna angularis Owhi et Ohashi were preincubated in $2\;\times\;10^{-4}M$ IAA solution for 48 hr to promote adventitious root formation in upright or inverted direction and then incubated in upright direction for 96 hr. Adventitious root formation occurred only at the morphological base of the cuttings which were preincubated in upright direction, while at the both ends in inverted direction. IAA treatment enhanced the adventitious root formation in all cuttings regardless of their orientation during preincubation. To elucidate localized root development, the activity of enzymes involved in root initiation and development was measured 24 hr, 48 hr, and 148 hr after epicotyl incubation. IAA oxidase, peroxidase and catalase were assayed in the apical, middle and basal segment of the epicotyls, and their fresh weight and length were measured. Elongation occurred the most in the upper segment of the epicotyl while fresh weight gain was the most in the basal segment. At root initiation phase, 24 hr after incubation IAA peroxidase and catalase activities appeared high at rooting zone while IAA oxidase activity was low at both ends, IAA oxidase and peroxidase activities declined at the rooting zone during the adventitious root formation at 48 ht. Inversion of cuttings during preincubation caused a chrange of enzyme activities along their epicotyl cuttings. Only peroxidase activity showed a high correlation with root initiation. Therefore, the biochemical change is highly correlated with change in IAA level in the rooting zone of the epicotyl, resulting in root formation in unusual rooting zone of epicotyl.

  • This paper presents vessel contour for extracting features and segmentating narrow blood vessels down to a diameter of two pixels in digital subtraction angiographic image. We present a new tracking algorithm for contour, mainly blood vessels in DSA image, and extracting properties such as their intensities, diameters, and center lines by exploiting spatial continuity. The proposed algorithm comes to detect blood vessel's boundary using difference edge detector one of homogeneity operator and find a next centerline position by direction vector of edge information. This algorithm enhanced variation of vessel's diameter compared to Sun's tracking algorithm and lessoned to compute as direction vector decide adaptively entire vessel's direction field. The processed images are intended to support radiologists in diagnosis, radiation therapy planning, and surgical planning. The algorithm should be useful for automating angiographic analyses of blood vessels.

  • In this paper, we analysis 3 types of magnetic resonance image for determining whether brain infarction period is hyperacute or not. If its peirod is hyperacute, we can predict brain infarction transition direction. We use EPI(Echo Planar Image) for prediction of brain infarction transition direction. EPI is a good image for detecting brain infarction because EPI can detect the moving of water in brain which play an important role in deciding method of medical treatment. We utilize characteristics of 3 type of MRI and their relation in brain infarction patient for determining brain infarction period. By this method, we obtain each period characteristics and predict brain infarction transition direction more accurately comparing past method.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of direction (pitch and roll) on the perception of support surface rotation while standing. Thirty young healthy subjects participated in this study. Support surface was rotated at an unexpected instant in a very slow speed (0.2 deg/s). The direction of support surface rotation was randomly chosen among pitch (forward and backward) and roll (right and left) directions. The experiment was performed with eyes open and closed. Perception performance was evaluated by the perception threshold, defined as the rotation angle of the surface at the instant when a subject recognized that the support surface was moving. Results showed that the perception threshold was smaller for roll directions than pitch directions irrespective of vision and gender (p < 0.01). This indicates that the perception of support surface rotation is more sensitive in roll direction than in pitch direction. Among three sensory functions related to postural perception, the effect of vestibular and visual functions on the direction difference of the perception should be little because of the very slow surface rotation and independence on visual conditions. Therefore, the direction dependence of perception would have been affected mainly by the somatosensory function.
