Design of A Multimedia Bitstream ASIP for Multiple CABAC Standards

  • The complexity of image compression algorithms has increased in order to improve image compression efficiency. One way to resolve high computational complexity is parallel processing. However, entropy coding, which is lossless compression, does not fit into the parallel processing form because of the correlation between consecutive symbols. This paper proposes a new application-specific instruction set processor (ASIP) platform by adding new context-adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) instructions to the existing platform to quickly process a variety of entropy coding. The newly added instructions work without conflicts with all other existing instructions of the platform, providing the flexibility to handle many coding standards with fast processing speeds. CABAC software is implemented for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and the performance of the proposed ASIP platform was verified with a field programmable gate array simulation.

  • In this paper, we present a system which enables a real-time measurement of the number and also the body length of the fry (baby fish) using a line image sensor. Here, we consider a situation that fry are transported from a pond to another, pond through a pipe. At one position of the pipe a transparent rectanglar channel is mounted. The images of the fry, which run through this rectanglar channel, are detected by a line image sensor. The image signals are digitized to binary ones and the contour of the fry are detected. After that, a real-time image analysis is executed with a digital signal processor. Labeling program analyses the connection of every pixel. The results are transfered to a personal computer and displayed on the online monitor graphically.

Effects of Ti on Mechanical Property and Damping Capacity in Hot-rolled Fe-17%Mn Alloy (열간압연한 Fe-17wt%Mn 합금의 기계적 성질과 진동감쇠능에 미치는 티타늄 첨가의 영향)

  • Effects of Ti on damping capacity and mechanical properties are investigated in hot rolled Fe-17%Mn alloy. The existing damping alloy with Fe-Mn binary system was limited the use by high production cost, however in case of using scrap iron instead of pure iron although the content of carbon is higher it is possible to be applied wider field especially construction items because the production cost is lower. However, the excellent specific damping capacity is dropped due to the high content of carbon, we developed advanced type of damping alloy included Ti. TiC is formed with added Ti and it holds the specific damping capacity similar to existing damping alloy. The effect of Ti on damping capacity is found to be beneficial in carbon-containing alloy, which is attributed to the depletion of carbon solute due to the formation of TiC.

  • The integration method of binary and real encoding in genetic algorithm is proposed to deal with design variables of various types in gear drive design. The method is applied to optimum design of multi-stage gear drive. Integer and Discrete type design variables represent the number of teeth and module, and continuous type design variables represent face width, helix angle and addendum modification factor etc. The proposed genetic algorithm is applied for the gear ratio optimization and the volume optimization(minimization) of multi-stage geared motor which is used in field. In result, the proposed design optimization method shows an effectiveness in optimum design process and the new design has a better results compared with the existing design.

  • The field of periocular biometrics has gained wide attention as an alternative or supplemental means to conventional biometric traits such as the iris or the face. Periocular biometrics provide intermediate resolution between the iris and the face, which enables it to support both. We have developed a periocular recognition system by using uniform Multiscale Local Binary Pattern (uMLBP) and attribute features. The proposed system has been evaluated in terms of major factors that need to be considered on a mobile platform (e.g., distance and facial pose) to assess the feasibility of the use of periocular biometrics on mobile devices. Experimental results showed 98.7% of rank-1 identification accuracy on a subset of the Face Recognition Grand Challenge (FRGC) database, which is the best performance among similar studies.

  • Time-series observations were carried out using a 155mm refractor and a $2k{\times}3k$ CCD camera at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory. We found 38 new variable stars in the $2.3^{\circ}{\times}2.4^{\circ}$ region around the Cepheid variable TU Cas: 22 eclipsing binary stars, 11 ${\delta}$ Scuti type stars and an RR Lyrae star, and 4 unclassified variables.

A Study on the Demand Characteristics and Influence Factors Affecting Shared House in Korea (국내 쉐어하우스 수요특성 및 영향요인 분석)

  • This study examined the special features and domestic status of the shared-house from the increasing number of single-person households, and also studied demand characteristics of the shared-house targeting young single-person household. Moreover, it found affecting factors of residential inclination on the shared-house with the binary logic model. Some of field research and interviews for the survey were conducted, and the analyzed result from this study as follows: Firstly, the domestic shared-house, introduced between the end of 2012 and early 2013, has been rapidly increased and has some features such as decreasing in housing expenses and increasing in social interaction. Secondly, the demand for shared-house by residential experience of single-person household differs according to the demographic characteristics. Thirdly, the factors that affect residential inclination of shared-house are character types, community life experience, awareness, and need for shared house.

  • 센서리스 제어를 위한 상태 관측기의 설계시 기존의 바이너리 관측기의 성능을 향상시키기 위해 스위칭 평면에 적분항을 추가함으로서 정상상태의 성능을 향상시킬 수 있다. 또한 전동기의 관성계수나 마찰계수와 같은 운동방정식의 파라미터들은 계측하기 어려우며 관측기의 성능저하를 야기하므로 실제구현에서도 많은 제약이 따른다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 적응 적분바이리 관측기를 제안하다. 그리고 정격속도 이상으로 구동하기 위해서 약계자 영역에서의 센서리스 제안한다. IPMSM이 w가 보다 높은 속도에서 운전되기 위해서는 정격전압이상의 입력이 요구되어진다. 그러나 정격전압에서 d축 전류가 회전자 자속을 감소시키는 방향으로 주입된다면 더 높은 속도에서 운전되어질 수 있다.

Corrosion Behaviors of Ti-xNb Alloys for Biomaterials

  • In this study, corrosion behaviors of Ti-xNb alloys for biomaterials. The Ti-xNb binary alloys contained from 10 wt. % to 50 wt. % contents were manufactured by vacuum arc-melting furnace. Microstructures of the alloys were examined by optical microscope (OM) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). In order to identify the phase constitutents of the Ti-xNb alloys, X-ray diffractometer (XRD) with a Cu K radiation was used. The corrosion behaviors were investigated using potentiostat (Model2273,EG & GCo, USA) in NaCl solution at $(36.6{\pm}1.0)^{\circ}C$.

  • In this paper, we find the values and the number of occurrences of each value of the cross-correlation function $C_d({\tau})$ when $d=\frac{2^{k-1}}{2^s-1}(2^{k(i+1)}-2^{ki}+2^{s+1}-2^k-1)$, where n = 2k, s is an integer such that 2s divides k, and i is odd.
