A Research on the Health Hazards by the Patterns of Beauty Care (20대 여성의 미용형태별 건강위해 실태조사)

  • With the increasing number of women involved in social activities, beauty industry has flourished. More women than ever before are concerned about make-up, hair care, skin care, and weight control, etc. With the success and commercialization of beauty industry, unconfirmed beauty care services have been introduced in the market. However, the health hazard from diverse beauty care services has not been systematically addressed. This study has the following two purposes: 1) to examine the utilization pattern of diverse beauty care services; and 2) to examine the health hazard from beauty care services. For this study, two major universities located in Seoul area were selected. While 450 female college students were selected from one women's university, the other 450 were from mixed university. Using survey questionnaire, we interviewed with 900 female college students. The results are as follows: As for the beauty care patterns, makeup accounted for 78.6%, Skin care 49.5%, weight/body control 32.0%, hair care 81.5%, and cosmetic operation 14.9%, indicating significant high rates of makeup(x2=9.215, p=0.002) and hair care(x2=4.435, p=0.035) at both mixed and women's universities. The health hazard was measured using four questions. The past studies have not paid special attention to the methodological issue of how to ask health hazard. Depending on how to ask health hazard, the percentage of respondents reporting health problems varied. When the respondents were asked whether or not they had suffered health problems for a short period, over 60% of respondents reported health problems; when they were asked in other ways-1) whether or not they had suffered health problems for a long period, 2) whether or not they had suffered whole body problems, 3) whether or not they had permanent traces on skin due to beauty care activities-, the percentage of respondents reporting health problems dropped substantially to less than 10%, This finding indicates the importance of ‘words’ used in questions. The relationships between health problems and utilization of beauty care services were examined, using χ2 test or t test. We found that there was a significant relationship between health problem and beauty care.

The Convergence Study on the Factors Influencing Quality of Education Service on the Satisfaction and Performance of the Course at the Beauty Academy (미용학원의 교육 서비스 품질이 수강 만족도와 교육성과에 미치는 영향요인에 관한 융합연구)

  • The purpose of the Convergence study is to analyze the impact of students' satisfaction and educational performance through research on overall educational service quality factors for beauty academies. The subjects of the study were conducted from March 29 to April 12, 2020 for those in their 10s and 40s attending beauty academies in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Incheon, and 377 surveys were analyzed and used for research. Multiple regression analysis was performed using the SPSSWIN 21.0 program for research purposes. As a result of the study, the higher the level of empathy, reliability, responsiveness, type, and certainty of educational service quality, the higher the satisfaction level of the class. The higher the satisfaction level, the higher the educational performance. Based on these research results, measures to improve the quality of education services that can enhance the satisfaction and educational performance of beauty academies should be improved by diversifying educational methods and contents and enhancing the quality of education and service expertise. The expertise of education should be strengthened to improve competitiveness. Therefore, follow-up research is needed to develop various programs to enhance future course satisfaction and educational performance and to develop education methods to enhance the quality of beauty education services.

  • With the improvement of economic status and the desire for beauty, the interest in health and skin care is increasing. For these demands, since ages medicinal plants are in vogue. A variety of plants, cosmetics and foods with novel bioactive ingredients for skin care and beauty are under constant research and development. Skin is influenced by various factors such as Ultra-violet rays, stress, hormones and aging which together lead skin to lose elasticity, changes in pigmentation and wrinkle formation. Many medicinal plants have proven effects in skin care and beauty treatment. From this list of medicinal plants, one which is famous for its beauty, flavor and fragrance is Rosa damascene. Rosa damascene has many therapeutic action and postulated pharmacological studies such as anti-arthritic, anti-microbial, cardio protective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, immune-modulator, gastro-protective, and skin ameliorative effect. Research in the field of Cosmetology has proven the effect of Rosa damascene in rehydrating skin, reducing scars and stretches, acne management, lowering skin pigmentation, delaying wrinkling and is recommended as a skin vitalizing agent. In this review, the morphology, chemical constituents, and some pharmacological activity are discussed.

Exploratory approach to customer satisfaction factors of beauty service - Focusing on hair beauty services - (뷰티서비스 고객만족 요인의 탐색적 접근 - 헤어미용 서비스를 중심으로 -)

  • Despite accelerating market changes in the beauty service industry, there are still inadequate service education programs and a lack of objective data and research to develop systematic policies to strengthen competitiveness, thereby fostering the beauty service industry. Accordingly, this study will examine the factors that affect customer satisfaction in terms of customer touchpoints, hence uncovering what the beauty service needs to develop systematic customer service education programs. It aims to contribute to the improvement of beauty service quality by providing basic empirical data that is necessary to build service education programs and strengthen the touchpoint staffs' job competency. A total of 16 people, 8 male, and 8 female customers in their 30s and 40s, who have ever used hair shop services in the metropolitan area, and 8 male and female hair designers and owners, were interviewed during a 9week period from October 31, 2017, through December 30, 2017. The data was analyzed as follows in order to measure service quality, SERVQUAL was revised and supplemented according to the purpose of this study, and a table for customer satisfaction factors was constructed. In addition, the results of the study were derived by classifying the relations among the customer satisfaction factors with respect to the interviews. The results show that the price of hardware, the location of the store, and hair designers' ability, which are the direct components of customer satisfaction, have a great influence on the customer satisfaction considered when selecting the beauty services (hair shops). In addition, it can be seen that human services including human-ware, which are accompanying services make up a high proportion considering customer satisfaction factors.

Study on the Policy of Supporting University Students in the Beauty Field through Social Big Data Analysis: Based on exploratory data analytics (소셜 빅 데이터 분석을 통한 미용분야 대학생 창업지원 정책에 관한 연구 -탐색적 데이터 분석법을 기반으로-)

  • In order to revitalize start-ups in the beauty field, this study attempted to derive characteristic patterns of changes in demand and differences in emotions and meaning for 'beauty start-ups' by dividing the period by year from 2019 to 2021 based on exploratory data analysis (EDA). Most of the search terms related to the keyword "beauty start-up" showed more interest in institutions or certificates that can learn beauty skills than professional start-up education, which still does not recognize the importance of start-up education, and as an alternative, it is necessary to develop customized start-up education programs for each major. We establish hypotheses through exploratory data analysis and verify hypotheses by combining traditional corroborative data analysis (CDA). There has never been an exploratory data analysis method for beauty startups, and rather than mentioning the need for formal start-up education, analyzing changes in interest in beauty startups and the requirements of prospective start-ups with exploratory data will help develop customized start-up programs.

  • The college's beauty department, which has a globalized education system that breaks away from the uniform beauty concept, can dominate in the fierce competition with other schools, and the development and vitalization of the department is guaranteed. In addition, research on the department name is very necessary to establish internal and external PR strategies for affiliated departments and departments and to analyze the direction of realistic beauty education. Accordingly, as a result of analyzing the trends of the department and department name by classifying the universities in Yeonghonam into four regions, the departments belonging to each region of the beauty department showed the most belonging to the natural science and arts and sports departments. In addition, the names of beauty departments by region are Busan and Gyeongnam, Daegu and Gyeongbuk, Gwangju and Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk with 5 beauty departments (29.41%), 3 beauty design schools (13.04%), and 8 beauty and beauty departments. (50.00%), beauty design departments, 2 schools (33.33%). This study makes it possible to cultivate professional beauticians who cultivate an artistic and creative sense that meets the educational goals of beauty education, and it is expected that it will be provided as a very necessary basic data for the division of departments or change of department name according to detailed majors.

  • This study is an investigation research regarding Beauty Artists' perception degree about self-Technic. Therefore by grasping the field which the beauty artists recognize the insufficiency while they perform their task, the result which executed a question investigation for 430 workers at the beauty shops which are located in the Jeollabuk-do area is the same following. As a result on the subject, after the beauty artists receive a fundamental beauty care education, and when they are engaged in a real beauty care shop, in order not for them to have difficulties in business accomplishment, more realistic and active curriculum has to be made up. To do like this, more researches and more efforts in the center of the beauty care group and the educational institution are demanded. In addition, so as to grow as the expert of the beauty care artist, the systemic and internal educational training program which considers the curriculum contents, a time and the place must be provided, by developing as levels and steps of the beauty artists.

Changes in the Employment Environment of the Beauty Industry in Republic of Korea: A Critical Review

  • Purpose: Convergence and social ripple effects caused by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which encompasses new technologies in various fields, will have a great impact on the beauty industry structure and market economy. This review reviewed the literature on the changes in the employment environment of the Korean beauty industry due to the 4th industrial revolution and the countermeasures of the beauty industry accordingly. Research design, data and methodology: Using the October 2022 PRISMA flowchart, it is a review of changes in the employment environment of the beauty industry, the need for human resource management of beauty workers, and the employment environment to be applied to the beauty industry in the future. Results: Changes in the employment environment in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the current state of the beauty industry, and reviews on beauty industry workers were collected, and a direction for training beauty industry workers was presented. Conclusions: This study presented the direction of the beauty industry in preparation for changes in the employment environment of the 4th industrial revolution and suggested that research is needed to actively establish human resource management (HRM) to overcome the problem of fostering talent in the beauty industry.

A Study on the Change in Beauty Environment (미용환경변화에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this Study is to provide basic data for the development of the beauty industry to meet its increased demand and liberated world markets more properly by analyzing the change of beauty environment by ages. For the Study, the literature and articles of costume and beauty, periodicals of beauty companies, and internet data were referred to review and analyze changing proceeds of beauty industries from the 1900 to the present by ages. The findings of the Study are as follows: We had the first barber shop and hairdressing salon in 1901 and 1920, respectively, after the Danbal Ryeong(A Crop Ordinance); modern education for women and active social movements resulted in change of hair styles; permanent wave tools and chemicals began to be used in the 1930s; and more people started to visit hairdressing salons after 1950s. In turn change of hair styles promoted the development of beauty technologies and the diversity of beauty tools and products. Now up-to-date instrument and products for the health of hair are developed, hairdresser provide kinder service for their customers and adjust their floor space accordingly, and, as shown in five-day workweek, are making their endeavors to improve wellbeing of their employees.

The Effects of Career Identity and Social Support on the Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy of Career Interrupted Women with Experienced on Beauty Education (미용교육을 받고 있는 경력단절여성의 진로정체성과 사회적지지가 진로결정자기효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study was carried out to investigate the effects of career identity and social support on the career decision-making self-efficacy of women who have experienced career interruption. Furthermore, the aim was to seek effective measures for making a career decision for the successful re-employment of women with a break in their career. From March $3^{rd}$ to April $2^{nd}$, 2018, a survey was conducted targeting 380 career-interrupted, married women with age between 30-50 years and with work experience of more than six months. The selected subjects had received 1-9 months of beauty education from various vocational training institutes, beauty academies, and women's center in Seoul and Gyeonggi region. A total of 361 questionnaires were used for final analysis. The SPSS Program for data analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, exploratory factor analysis, factor analysis, frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were employed for the study. The results of this study are as follows. It was apparent that the establishment of a career identity and social support could play important roles in creating a relation with new career decisions for re-employment. Thus, this study aims to provide basic data necessary for the successful career preparation in women with career interruption.
