Antenna arrays at base-stations can be used to transmit and receive information selectively in space by reducing the interference effects. In this paper, a new model of locally scattered signals in the vicinity of mobiles is proposed, and under this model the weights of the beamformer are obtained. Computer simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme shows an excellent performance and works well even in the urban environment where there exist many multipath propagations with wide angular spread.

As a channel of a DS-CDMA system is shared among several users, the receivers face the problem of MAI. Also the bandlimited channel leads to ISI. Both components are undesired, but unlike the additive noise process, which is usually completely unpredictable, their space-time structure helps to estimate and remove them. This paper investigates a DS-CDMA system with a fading multipath channel. The investigations have been separated into a channel estimation part and a reception part. In the estimation part of seperated two parts, the multipath parameters such as DOA and TOA are evaluated in this paper. In the part of receiver. we used these parameters and tested the performance of this receiver about space-time beamformers. To assess many different estimation techniques and beamformers, the simulation compared with theoretical values is performed.

In this paper, the new technique combining beamforming with space-time coding is proposed for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) system with multi-input multi-output(MIMO). When MIMO-OFDM system is employing Nt(the number of transmitterantenna) beamfomers and one S-T decoder at Nr receiver antennas, Nt signals removed CCI are outputted at the beamformer and then diversity gain can be got through space-time decoding. As the proposed technique can reduce cochannel interference and get diversity gain in the multi-user environment, the performance of MIMO-OFDM system is very improved. BER performance improvement and convergence behavior of the proposed approach are investigated through computer simulation by applying it to MIMO-OFDM system in the multi-user environment.

Eigenstructure-based adaptive beamfoming has advantages of fast convergence and the insentivity to errors in the arrival angle of the desired signal. Eigen-decomposing the sample matrix to extract a basis for the Sl (signal plus interference) subspace, however, is very computationally expensive. In this paper, we present a simple subspace based beamforming which utilizes off-diagonal elements of the sample matrix to estimate the Sl subspace. The outputs of overlapped subarrays are combined to produce the final adaptive output, which improves SINR (signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio) comapred to exploiting a single subarray. The proposed adaptive beamformer, which employs an efficient angle estimation is very roubust to errors in both the arrival angles and the number of the incident signals, while the eigenstructure-based beamforer suffers from severe performance degradation.

A video-zoom driven audio-zoom algorithm is proposed to provide audio zooming effects according to the degree of video-zoom. The proposed algorithm is designed based on a super-directive beamformer operating with a 4-channel microphone array in conjunction with a soft masking process that uses the phase differences between microphones. The audio-zoom processed signal is obtained by multiplying the audio gain derived from the video-zoom level by the masked signal. The proposed algorithm is then implemented on a portable digital imaging device with a clock speed of 600 MHz after different levels of optimization, such as algorithmic level, C-code and memory optimization. As a result, the processing time of the proposed audio-zoom algorithm occupies 14.6% or less of the clock speed of the device. The performance evaluation conducted in a semi-anechoic chamber shows that the signals from the front direction can be amplified by approximately 10 dB compared to the other directions.

The multibeam surveillance radar is a state-of-art of 3D radar technology. It applies the stacked beam-on-received realized by a digital beamformer. In this paper, a method of a low target altitude extraction for multibeam surveillance radar in multipath environmental condition is proposed and investigated. The model of multipath propagation and radar generation produced from the low altitude target in multibeam surveillance radar and the nelder-mead simplex multipath reduction(NMSMR) method which enables a reliable low altitude target extraction in specular reflection situations are described. The proposed algorithm is simulated to confirm the effectiveness of proposed algorithm in accordance with a various of target altitudes and radar frequencies.

An approach to 3D visualization of multiple sound sources has been developed with the application of a moving array technique. Frequency-domain beamforming algorithm is used to generate a beam power map and the sound source is modeled as a point source. When a conventional delay and sum beamformer is used, it is considered that 2D distribution of sensors leads to have deficiency in spatial resolution along a measurement distance. The goal of moving an array in this study is to form 3D array aperture surrounding multiple sound sources so that the improved spatial resolution in a virtual space can be expected. Numerical simulation was made to examine source localization capabilities of various shapes of array. The 3D beam power maps of hemispherical and spherical distribution are found to have very sharp resolution. For experiments, two sound sources were placed in the middle of defined virtual space and arc-shaped line array was rotated around the sources. It is observed that spherical array show the most accurate determination of multiple sources' positions.

In this paper, the new multi-beamforming is proposed for Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Multicarrier-Code division multiple access(MC-CDMA) systems to overcome the decrease of performance due to multiuser interference and multiple-antenna interference. Installing the number of multi-beamformer which is equal to the number of multi-transmitter antennas and exploiting the proposed approach at the receiver of MIMO MC-CDMA, the multi-beams are formed toward each multi-antenna of desired user and null beam are formed to other interference. Therefore, the performance of MIMO MC-CDMA system is improved as removing the interference signal. BER performance improvement is investigated through computer simulation by the proposed approach to MIMO MC-CDMA system.

Capabilities of several beamforming techniques are compared for estimating the position of a moving source. Beamforming has enabled to widen our perspective of aeroacoustics in wind tunnel experiments and has provided useful approach in array measurements. Meanwhile beamforming techniques have been developed in a way to improve estimation accuracy and to save ing effort at the same time. In order to achieve reasonable outcome from aeroacoustic measurement, it is important to identify the spectral characteristics of source and to select an appropriate beamformer. Though aeroacoustic sources normally generates broadband noises, many array signal processing have been focused on narrowband processing which makes calculation numerically efficient. However, calculation in frequency-domain requires selection of single frequency of interest which affects spatial resolution and sidelobe level as a consequence. To be able to localize broadband noise source, it is proposed to use broadband beamforming. The formulas implements the deletion of diagonal term from cross spectral matrix. In this study, trajectory of flying source emitting broadband noise was simulated and several beamformers are applied.
