A Study on TQM of Health Care Sector

  • The study attempts to review TQM models used in the health care sector and the obstacles to the application of TQM in the sector. Even though the TQM models in the manufacturing and service sectors were successfully applied, the applicability of TQM in the health care sector is still in question. The reason is the unique characteristics of the medical sector such as medical and management practices. The most of the TQM models in the health care sector come from manufacturing industries. The importance of the professional groups is, however, more emphasized in the sector than in manufacturing sector. The role of the groups are idiosyncratic to the sector. They generate some obstacles to the application of TQM in the sector. The barriers include cultural obstacles of health care organization. It naturally follows that the TQM in the health care sector requires the change of the organizational culture of the sector. The culture embraces the norms, rules, regulations, compensation system, morale, practices, and common experiences. To change the culture needs long term effort and modification of the rules, regulations, compensation system, and practices. It also requires staffs' training in the problem solving methods. The TQM in the health care sector needs that the interested parties should change. Since doctors group and nurses group are controlled in the bureaucratic and authoritative manner, they should learn the problem solving techniques which require the interaction with other groups. The management also needs to learn management skills and get thorough training on them.

  • Total Quality Management(TQM) in Higher Education Institution(HEI) has been popular since early 1980s. Implementation of TQM, however, has not been easy. The difficulties of the implementation is partially due to the lack of effective TQM models in HEIs. This paper proposed a new model based on PDCA cycle. The paper consists of four chapters. First chapter Introduces the status of TQM in HEIs and implementation problems. Second chapter delineates the models used in HEIs. In third chapter, a new model is suggested. Last chapter is the conclusions.

  • This article systematically reviews the adoption of total quality management (TQM) implementation and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives on firm performance. A total of 233 published documents from 1996 to 2020 in international journals have been collected and listed on the SCOPUS database. It aims to fill the existing literature gap regarding TQM and CSR practices and point out a future research agenda. This study employed a systematic literature review approach to review those manuscripts related to TQM, CSR topics focused on firm performance. Consequently, the results stressed that TQM and CSR are excellent tools and have a similarity to support the firms to attain corporate sustainability; however, TQM practices have given more interest than CSR initiatives. Moreover, the results highlighted that only a few articles are interested in simultaneously combining TQM and CSR initiatives although this idea is rising in recent years. Thus, the statistical findings indicated several research gaps that remain unaddressed. It is worthy of considering TQM and CSR integration; however, other scholars need to identify the critical success factors that could enable TQM practices or barriers to CSR adoption. Particularly spending more attention on the transitional economies context, which is considering a promising future research context.

  • The tremendous growth of the Internet, particularly World Wide Web, has resulted in significant changes in commerce environments. Internet has brought significant changes in the economics of marketing channels and has led to a redefinition of industry value chain. Electronic Commerce(EC) has become so important that countries and firms unprepared for this new trend would lose competitive advantages in the coming century of Digital Economy. Despite its importance, current EC markets in Korea are immature and there still exist several barriers to EC development thus excluding business to consumer EC markets. As interest in quality management and its effect on competitive performance has grown, there has been a corresponding proliferation of research. However, the majority of the research on quality management has not evolved in a comprehensive and rigorous fashion, particularly with regard to reliability and validity issues. The purpose of this paper investigates on Vitalization of the Activities of on-line shopping mall under of TQM system in Korea. That would make it possible to remove elements of insecurity and doubt currently felt by many users of on-line shopping mall(internet detail or cyber mall) business. In addition, we tried to find out what factors discourage consumers from using electronic purchasing methods, as well as how perceived quality factors and customer satisfaction when consumers are exposed to the purchase process on the on-line shopping mall business.

제품 디자인의 파급효과와 품질경쟁력의 결정요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on a Effect of Product Design and a Primary factor of Qualify Competitiveness)

  • 본 연구의 분석목표는 제품 디자인의 결정요인을 추정하고 품질경쟁력, 제품 신뢰성, 고객충성에 대한 제품 디자인의 파급효과를 실증적으로 분석함으로써 디자인 경영이론에 유용한 시사점을 도출하는 것이다. 상기한 실증적 분석을 위하여, 한국 제조업 부문의 400개 표본기업에 대한 설문조사(2003년 8월${\sim}$10월)를 통하여 관련 측정변수들을 추출하였다. 본 연구의 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 제품 디자인의 유의적 결정요인은 연구개발력 수준, 연구개발투자 수준, 혁신활동 수준(5S, TQM, 6Sigma 운동, QC 등)으로 추정되었다. 이 분석결과는 제품 디자인과 제품 개발을 동시적 엔지니어링(CE: concurrent engineering) 개념으로 파악하고 이들의 성과를 평가하기 위한 시스템관련 원리(system-related principle)와 행렬관련 원리(matrix-related principle)로써 서술한 Pawar and Driva(1999)를 실증적으로 뒷받침한다. 둘째, 제품 디자인의 파급효과는 제품 디자인${\rightarrow}$품질경쟁력${\rightarrow}$고객만족${\rightarrow}$고객충성의 인과관계로 나타나는 것으로 추정되었다. 즉, 제품 디자인은 고객만족을 직접적으로 유발하는 것이 아니라 품질경쟁력을 경유하여 간접적으로 고객만족을 유도한다는 것이다. 이 분석결과는 디자인 경영이 통합된 제품 품질의 중요한 결정인자라고 분석한 Flynn et al(1994), Ahire et al.(1996), Ahire and Dreyfus(2000) 등을 실증적으로 뒷받침한다. 일반적으로 제품 디자인의 접근방법으로써 3가지 즉 (1) 제품 개발자(엔지니어, 기술개발담당자, 품질관리팀)를 중심으로 하는 QFD(quality function development)의 접근방법, (2) 마케팅 담당자를 중심으로 하는 컨조인트 분석(conjoint analysis), (3) 상기의 2가지 접근방법의 상호보완적 및 동시적 결합 및 피드백의 주장(Pullman, Moore and Wardell, 2002)을 들 수 있다. 그러나 본 연구의 실증적 분석결과에는 품질경쟁력이 제품 디자인과 고객만족사이에 교량적 역할을 담당한다. 이 분석결과는 제품 디자인에 대한 품질경쟁력의 2가지 접근방법(QFD의 접근방법과 컨조인트 분석)의 조화를 이룰 수 있는 이론적 기초가 될 수 있다. 즉, 제품디자인의 결정요인 분석결과는 QFD의 접근방법에, 제품 디자인 파급효과 분석결과는 컨조인트 분석에 각각 보완적 기여를 할 수 있다. 이와 동시에, 실증적 분석결과는 Ettlie(1997)의 디자인 통합(DI) 이론에 대한 실증적 기반을 제공할 수 있다. 마지막으로, 성공적인 디자인 경영(DM)을 위해서는 최고 경영자의 지원뿐만 아니라 부처 간 의사소통의 장애요인을 제거하고 CFT(cross-functional team)를 운영함으로써 동시적 엔지니어링(CE) 및 제품 및 공정 디자인의 개발이 제품 개발의 속도를 가속화하고 디자인 품질을 높이며 시장 성공을 보증할 수 있도록 해야 한다.
