To understand the formation of core-shell structure in $BaTiO_3$ (BT) grains in multilayer ceramic capacitors, specimens were prepared with BT powders mixed with Y and Mg, and their microstructures were investigated with scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffractometry, and transmission electron microscopy. Microstructural investigation showed that Y dissolved easily in BT lattice to a certain depth inside of the grain, whereas Mg tended to stay at grain boundaries rather than become incorporated into BT. It was considered that in case of Y and Mg addition in a proper ratio, Y could play a dominant role in the formation of shell leading to a slight dissolution of Mg in the shell. Next, the effects of ball-milling conditions on the core-shell formation were studied. As the ball-milling time increased, the milled powders did not show a significant change in size distribution but rather an increase of residual strain, which was attributed to the milling damage. The increase in milling damage facilitated the shell formation, leading to the increased shell portion in the core-shell grain.
ZnO nanowires were coated conformally with aluminum oxide ($Al_{2}O_{3}$) material by atomic layer deposition (ALD). The ZnO nanowires were first synthesized on a Si (100) substrate at $1380^{\circ}C$ from ball-milled ZnO powders by a thermal evaporation procedure with an argon carrier gas without any catalysts; the length and diameter of these ZnO nanowires are $20\sim30{\mu}m$ and $50{\sim}200$ nm, respectively. $Al_{2}O_{3}$ films were then deposited on these ZnO nanowires by ALD at a substrate temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ using trimethylaluminum (TMA) and distilled water ($H_{2}O$). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images of the deposited ZnO nanowires revealed that 40nm-thick $Al_{2}O_{3}$ cylindrical shells surround the ZnO nanowires.
This paper investigated into process characteristics of AlTiN coated layers for machining to the direction of upper and lower in plastic mold material (KP-4) with the cemented carbide ball endmill with the diameter of 8mm coated AlTiN layers (1~4) step by step using machining center. The material used in experiments was KP-4 that was machined by three types of inclined angles; $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ As estimated mechanical properties of AlTiN coated layers, it was shown the most result in the condition of three layered coating that the coating that the coating depth, the hardness of the coated layer and the surface roughness of the coated layer were $13{\mu}m$, Hv 3027.3 and $0.042{\mu}m$, respectively. The cutting component was better at the condition of upper direction than that of lower direction in all experimental conditions and indicated to be less which the bigger angle of the material was increased the effective diameter of the tool.
Research to replace metal mechanical elements with polymer materials has recently accelerated. However, polymers exhibit less favorable mechanical properties than metal materials, and are often easily worn-out owing to frictional heat when their mechanical elements contact while in relative motion. Therefore, research on the polymer tribological properties is required to employ polymer materials in mechanical elements operating under harsh conditions. In this study, we examine the effect of mechanical part operating temperatures on the material friction and wear characteristics of polymer materials. We conduct ball-on-disk friction tests under dry conditions at various temperatures, using a metal ball with high hardness and a polymer as the counter surface. Each test is repeated at least three times to ensure the reliability of the test results. Before the friction test, we analyze the surface hardness and roughness of each polymer specimen; after the friction test, we use a three-dimensional confocal microscope to compare and analyze the polymer specimen wear characteristics. Based on this study, we systematically elucidate the polymer material tribological characteristics. This information should be useful for selecting and utilizing polymer materials at various temperatures.
Among through silicon via (TSV) technologies, for replacing Cu filling method, the method of molten solder filling has been proposed to reduce filling cost and filling time. However, because Sn alloy which has a high coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) than Cu, CTE mismatch between Si and molten solder induced higher thermal stress than Cu filling method. This thermal stress can deteriorate reliability of TSV by forming defects like void, crack and so on. Therefore, we fabricated SiC composite filling material which had a low CTE for reducing thermal stress in TSV. To add SiC nano particles to molten solder, ball-typed SiC clusters, which were formed with Sn powders and SiC nano particles by ball mill process, put into molten Sn and then, nano particle-dispersed SiC composite filling material was produced. In the case of 1 wt.% of SiC particle, the CTE showed a lowest value which was a $14.8ppm/^{\circ}C$ and this value was lower than CTE of Cu. Up to 1 wt.% of SiC particle, Young's modulus increased as wt.% of SiC particle increased. And also, we observed cross-sectioned TSV which was filled with 1 wt.% of SiC particle and we confirmed a possibility of SiC composite material as a TSV filling material.
We fabricated green sheet by tape casting method with fluormica glass-ceramic powders for fabrication of low temperature co-firing substrate. After ball milling with organic additives, we investigated green strength and density of green sheets which were casted by doctor blade machine. Green sheets were sintered at 700 ~ 1,00$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 ~3hrs. Microstructure, linear shrinkage and dielectric constant of substrates were surveyed.
