  • This paper presents a neural network adaptive controller for autonomous diving control of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) using adaptive backstepping method. In general, the dynamics of underwater robotics vehicles (URVs) are highly nonlinear and the hydrodynamic coefficients of vehicles are difficult to be accurately determined a priori because of variations of these coefficients with different operating conditions. In this paper, the smooth unknown dynamics of a vehicle is approximated by a neural network, and the remaining unstructured uncertainties, such as disturbances and unmodeled dynamics, are assumed to be unbounded, although they still satisfy certain growth conditions characterized by 'bounding functions' composed of known functions multiplied by unknown constants. Under certain relaxed assumptions pertaining to the control gain functions, the proposed control scheme can guarantee that all the signals in the closed-loop system satisfy to be uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB). Simulation studies are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, and some practical features of the control laws are also discussed.

  • This paper deals with the design problem of model reference adaptive controllers for MIMO plants with unknown orders. A design scheme for an adaptive control system based on CGT theorem, which has hierarchical structures derived from backstepping strategies, is proposed for MIMO plants with unknown orders but with known relative MacMillan degrees(relative degrees for SISO plants). It is also shown that all the signals in the resulting control system are bounded, and that the asymptotic tracking is achieved in the case where reference inputs are step.

  • In this paper, a novel estimation technique for a robust adaptive control scheme is presented for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems with a general set of uncertainty. For a class of introduced more extended semi-strict feedback forms which generalize the systems studied in recent years, a novel estimation technique is proposed to estimate the states of the fully nonlinear unmodeled dynamics without stringent conditions. With the introduction of powerful functions, the estimation error can be tuned to a desired small region around the origin via the estimator parameters. In addition, with some effective functions, a modified adaptive backstepping for dynamic uncertainties is presented to drive the output to an arbitrarily small region around the origin by an appropriate choice of the design parameters. With our proposed schemes, we can remove or relax the assumptions of the existing results.

  • In this paper, Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy controller and search method are developed for efficiency optimization of induction motors(IMs). The proposed control scheme consists of efficiency controller and adaptive backstepping controller. A search controller for which information of input of T-S fuzzy controller is included in efficiency controller that uses a direct vector controlled induction motor. A sliding mode observer is designed to estimate rotor flux and an adaptive backstepping controller is used to control of speed of IMs. Simulation results are presented to validate the proposed controller.

  • A controller is proposed for the robust adaptive backstepping control of a class of uncertain nonlinear systems using nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO). The NDO is applied to estimate the time-varying lumped disturbance in each step, but a disturbance observer error does not converge to zero since the derivative of lumped disturbance is not zero. Then the fuzzy neural network (FNN) is presented to estimate the disturbance observer error such that the outputs of the system are proved to converge to a small neighborhood of the desired trajectory. The proposed control scheme guarantees that all the signals in the closed-loop are semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded on the basis of the Lyapunov theorem. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness and the applicability of the approaches proposed.

  • In this paper a new excitation control scheme that improves the transient stability of multi machine power systems is proposed. To this end the backstepping technique is used to transform the system to a suitable partially linear form. On this system, a combination of both feedback linearization and adaptive control techniques are used to confront the nonlinearities. As shown in the paper, the resulting nonlinear control law ensures the uniform boundedness of all the state and estimated variables. Furthermore, it is proven that all the error variables are uniformly ultimately bounded (DUB) i.e. they converge to arbitrarily selected small regions around zero in finite-time. Simulation tests on a two generator infinite bus power system demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control.

  • In this paper, search method and sliding mode observer are developed for efficiency optimization of induction motor. The proposed control scheme consists of efficiency controller and adaptive backstepping controller. A search controller for which information of input of fuzzy controller is included in efficiency controller that uses a direct vector controlled induction motor. The search controller is based on the "Rosenbrock" method and finds the flux level at the minimum input power of induction motor. Once this optimal flux level has been determined, this information is utilized to update the rule base of a fuzzy controller A sliding mode observer is designed to estimate rotor flux and an adaptive backstepping controller is also used to compensate for mechanical uncertainties in the speed control of induction motor. Simulation results are presented to validate the proposed controller.

  • In this paper, we propose a direct robust adaptive backstepping speed controller for induction motors system. A robust adaptive backstepping controller is designed using high order neural networks(HONN), which avoids the singularity problem in adaptive nonlinear control. The stability of the resulting adaptive system with proposed adaptive controller is guaranteed by suitable choosing the design parameter and initial conditions. HONN are used to approximate most of uncertainties which are derived from unknown motor parameters, load torque disturbances and unknown nonlinearities. The applicability of the proposed scheme is tested simulation.

Generally, systems with nonholnomic constraints cannot be stabilized to an equilibrium points by smooth state feedback control. Therefore, we proposed a control strategy for posture control of the underwater vehicle using backstepping control. The proposed control scheme is applied to the posture control of an underwater vehicle and verified the effectiveness of control strategy by numerical simulation.

Generally, systems with nonholnomic constraints cannot be stabilized to an equilibrium points by smooth state feedback control. For the nonholonomic underwater vehicle system, we applied coordinate transformation to get multi-chained system We proposed non smooth feedback controller using backstepping method for stabilizing the multi chained form system Applying inverse input transformation to the non smooth feedback controller, we can get posture controller of the underwater vehicle with nonholonomic constraint.
