Multi-stage deep drawing is an important sheet metal forming process. The deformation mechanisms of sheet metals during forming processes are complicated mainly due to the geometry and the lubrication of tools involved, the formability and the anisotropic behaviour of the material. The multi-stage deep-drawing processes including normal-drawing, reverse-drawing, and re-drawing are analyzed by use of the rigid-plastic finite element method. The anisotropic behaviour represented by r-value can be incorporated into the formulation. Punch/die loads and thickness distributions were obtained as results of simulating axisymmetric deep drawing processes. The computed results showed good agreements with experiments.
Fuel-storage tank is a representative example of liquid-structure interaction systems. In order to prevent the undesired structural failure by a variety of external loads, the reliable analysis of the dynamic response of such structural system is of a great importance. In this paper, we address the analytical study on free vibration of axisymmetric cylindrical fuel-storage tanks together with the parametric investigation of eigen-characteristics with respect to the relative fuel fill-height and the relative tank height. Numerical results illustrating theoretical results are also included.
The axisymmetric problem of a functionally graded annular plate is considered by extending the theory of functionally graded materials plates suggested by Mian and Spencer (1998). In particular, their expansion formula for displacements is adopted and the hypothesis that the material parameters can vary along the thickness direction in an arbitrary continuous fashion is retained. However, their analysis is extended here in two aspects. First, the material is assumed to be transversely isotropic, rather than isotropic. Second, the plate is no longer tractions-free on the top and bottom surfaces, but subject to uniform loads applied on the surfaces. The elasticity solutions are given for a uniformly loaded annular plate of functionally graded materials for a total of six different boundary conditions. Numerical results are given for a simply supported functionally graded annular plate, and good agreement with those by the classical plate theory is obtained.
In this article, the effect of different geometrical, materials and load parameters on the transient response of axisymmetric viscoelastic functionally graded annular plates with different boundary conditions are studied. The behavior of the plate is assumed the elastic in bulk and viscoelastic in shear with the standard linear solid model. Also, the graded properties vary through the thickness according to a power law function. Three types of mostly applied transient loading, i.e., step, impulse, and harmonic with different load distribution respect to radius coordinate are examined. The motion equations and the corresponding boundary conditions are extracted by applying the first order shear deformation theory which are three coupled partial differential equations with variable coefficients. The resulting motion equations are solved analytically using the perturbation technique and the generalized Fourier series. The sensitivity of the response to the graded indexes, different transverse loads, aspect ratios, boundary conditions and the material properties are investigated too. The results are compared with the finite element analysis.

In this paper, the orbital forming analysis of an automotive hub bearing was studied to predict forming performances using the explicit finite element method. To find an efficient solution technique for the orbital forming, axisymmetric finite element models and 3D solid element models were solved and numerically compared. The time scaling and mass scaling techniques were introduced to reduce the excessive computational time caused by small element size in case of the explicit finite element method. It was found from the numerical simulations on the orbital forming that the axisymmetric element models showed the similar results to the 3D solid element models in forming loads whereas the deformations at the inner race of bearing were quite different. Finally the strains at the inner race of bearing and the forming forces to the peen were measured for the same product of the numerical model by test, and were compared with the 3D solid element results. It was founded that the test results were in good agreements with the numerical ones.

This paper deals whth the buckling as well as postbuckling analysis of axisymmertric shells taking the initial deflection effects into account. Incremental equilibrium equations, based on the principle of virtual work, were derived by the finite element method, the successive step-by-step Newton-Raphson iterative technique was adopted. To define the transition pattern of postbuckling behavior from the prebuckling state more accurately, a simple solution method was developed, i.e. the critical load was calculated by the load extrapolation method with the determinant of tangent stiffness matrix and the equilibrium configuration in the immediate postbuckling stage was obtained by perturbation scheme and eigenvalue analysis. Degenerated isoparametric shell elements were used to analyse the axisymmetric shell of revolution. And by the method developed in this paper, the computer program applicable to the nonlinear analysis of both thin and moderately thick shells was constructed. To verify the capabilities and accuracies of the present solution method, the computed results were compared with the results of analytical solutions. These results coincided fairly well in both the small deflection and large deflection ranges. Various numerical analyses were done to show the effect of initial deflection and shape of shells on buckling load and postbuckling behavior. Futhermore, corrected directions of applied loads at every increment steps were used to determine the actual effects of large deflection in non-conservative load systems such as hydrostatic pressure load. The following conclusions can be obtained. (1) The method described in this paper was found to be both economic and effective in calculating buckling load and postbuckling behavior of shell structure. (2) Buckling and postbuckling behavior of spherical caps is critically dependent upon their geometric configuration, i.e. the shape of spherical cap and quantities of the initial deflection. (3) In the analysis of large deflection problems of shells by the incremental method, corrections of the applied load directions are needed at every incremental step to compensate the follower force effects.

The behavior of a bellows for an electromagnetic control valve was investigated. The bellows consists of an outer metal bellows, inner spring, and metal caps. The bellows needs to have sensitive and precise motion against external loads and pressure loads in order to control the position of the valve accurately. The spring constant of the inner spring and load-displacement curve of the bellows set were measured using a test machine. The inner spring showed a linear relation between load and displacement. The bellows set showed small stiffness at small displacement, and then the stiffness slightly increased upon subsequent displacement. Based on the measured data, finite element analysis was performed. Axisymmetric conditions were applied, and shell elements were used. The effective material properties of the outer bellows material were extracted. Additional analysis was performed, and the behavior of the bellows was analyzed using the finite element model.

A three-dimensional computation is conducted to simulate a three-dimensional rotating stall in a low speed axial compressor. It is generally known that a tip leakage flow has an important role on a stall inception. However, almost of researchers have taken no interest in a role of the hub-comer-stall on the rotating stall even though it is a common feature of the flow in an axial compressor operating near stall and it has a large effect on the flows and loss characteristics. Using a time-accurate unsteady simulation, it is found that the hub-comer-stall may be a trigger to collapse the axisymmetric flows under high loads. An asymmetric disturbance is initially originated in the hub-comer-stall because separations are naturally unstable flow phenomena. Then this disturbance is transferred to the tip leakage flows from the hub-comer-stall and grows to be stationary stall cells, which adheres to blade passage and rotate at the same speed as the rotor. When stationary stall cells reach a critical size, these cells then move along the blade row and become a short-length-scale rotating stall. The rotational speed of stall cells quickly comes down to 79 percent of rotor so they rotate in the opposite direction to the rotor blades in the rotating frame.

Numerical investigation was carried out on axisymmetric over-expanded rocket nozzle to predict flow fields of transitional shock separation patterns. The unsteady, compressible N-S equations with k-$\omega$ SST for turbulence model closure were solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. Computed results were in good agreement with previous experimental works. It was found that strong side-loads were generated during the transition of RSS to FSS due to the development of a vortex ring in the inviscid jet core region. Hysteresis phenomenon exhibited by the shock-separation patterns was also found during the start-up and shut-down processes.
In this paper the time-dependent creep analysis of a thick-walled FG cylinder with finite length subjected to axisymmetric mechanical and thermal loads are presented. First order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is used for description of displacement components. Inner and outer temperatures and outer pressure are considered as thermo-mechanical loadings. Both thermal and mechanical loadings are assumed variable along the axial direction using the sinusoidal distribution. To find temperature distribution, two dimensional heat transfer equation is solved using the required boundary conditions. The energy method and Euler equations are employed to reach final governing equations of the cylinder. After determination of elastic stresses and strains, the creep analysis can be performed based on the Yang method. The results of this research indicate that the boundaries have important effects on the responses of the cylinder. The effect of important parameters of this analysis such as variable loading, non-homogeneous index of functionally graded materials and time of creep is studied on the behaviors of the cylinder.
