  • The classification is that a new data is classified into one of given classes and is one of the most generally used data mining techniques. Memory-Based Reasoning (MBR) is a reasoning method for classification problem. MBR simply keeps many patterns which are represented by original vector form of features in memory without rules for reasoning, and uses a distance function to classify a test pattern. If training patterns grows in MBR, as well as size of memory great the calculation amount for reasoning much have. NGE, FPA, and RPA methods are well-known MBR algorithms, which are proven to show satisfactory performance, but those have serious problems for memory usage and lengthy computation. In this paper, we propose DPA (Dynamic Partition Averaging) algorithm. it chooses partition points by calculating GINI-Index in the entire pattern space, and partitions the entire pattern space dynamically. If classes that are included to a partition are unique, it generates a representative pattern from partition, unless partitions relevant partitions repeatedly by same method. The proposed method has been successfully shown to exhibit comparable performance to k-NN with a lot less number of patterns and better result than EACH system which implements the NGE theory and FPA, and RPA.

  • K-NN (k-Nearest Neighbors), which is a well-known instance-based learning algorithm, simply stores entire training patterns in memory, and uses a distance function to classify a test pattern. K-NN is proven to show satisfactory performance, but it is notorious formemory usage and lengthy computation. Various studies have been found in the literature in order to minimize memory usage and computation time, and NGE (Nested Generalized Exemplar) theory is one of them. In this paper, we propose RPA (Recursive Partition Averaging) and IRPA (Incremental RPA) which is an incremental version of RPA. RPA partitions the entire pattern space recursively, and generates representatives from each partition. Also, due to the fact that RPA is prone to produce excessive number of partitions as the number of features in a pattern increases, we present IRPA which reduces the number of representative patterns by processing the training set in an incremental manner. Our proposed methods have been successfully shown to exhibit comparable performance to k-NN with a lot less number of patterns and better result than EACH system which implements the NGE theory.

  • A computational analysis of the nonlinear free vibration of corrugated annular plates with shallow sinusoidal corrugations under uniformly static ambient temperature is examined. The governing equations based on Hamilton's principle and nonlinear bending theory of thin shallow shell are established for a corrugated plate with a concentric rigid mass at the center and rotational springs at the outer edges. A simple harmonic function in time is assumed and the time variable is eliminated from partial differential governing equations using the Kantorovich averaging procedure. The resulting ordinary equations, which form a nonlinear two-point boundary value problem in spatial variable, are then solved numerically by shooting method, and the temperature-dependent characteristic relations of frequency vs. amplitude for nonlinear vibration of heated corrugated annular plates are obtained. Several numerical results are presented in both tabular and graphical forms, which demonstrate the accuracy of present method and illustrate the amplitude frequency dependence for the plate under such parameters as ambient temperature, plate geometry, rigid mass and elastic constrain.

  • Nowadays, the viscous damper using high viscosity oil was much to be used for engine shafting system to reduce the excessive additional stress by torsional vibration. In general, it was assumed that the viscous damper could be modelled having only damping coefficient, that is to say, whose stiffness be ignored. But it is found that there exists a jump phenomenon, as a kind of non-linear vibration, in the actual engine shafting system with a damper of high viscosity. Therefore the damper ring and the casing are modelled as two mass elastic system with a complex viscosity. Also, to analyze a non-linear phenomenon, it is assumed that the viscous damper has a linear stiffness coefficient in proportion to the angular amplitude and a non-linear stiffness coefficient in proportion to cube of the angular amplitude. For the analysis, Quasi-Newton method with BFGS(Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno) formula is used. Both calculated and measured values are provided in this paper which confirm the possibility of applying non-linear theory to engine shafting system with viscous damper.

  • In this paper, we propose a technique for image enhancement, especially for denoising and deblocking based on wavelets. In this proposed algorithm, frame wavelet system designed as a optimal edge detector was used. And our theory depends on Lipschitz regularity, spatial correlation, and some important assumptions. The performance of the proposed algorithm was compared with three popular test images in image processing area. Experimental results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm was better than other previous denoising techniques like spatial averaging filter, Gaussian filter, median filter, Wiener filter, and some other wavelet based filters in the aspect of both PSNR and human visual system, The experimental results also show approximately the same capability of deblocking as the previous developed techniques

  • It's an important part to calculate the weights between criterions and to aggregate the decision inputs in a MCDM(Multi criterion decision making) This paper presents a method for aggregation cf decision inputs and application to the MCDM. We incorporate the fuzzy set theory and the basic nature of subjectivity due to ambiguity to achieve a flexible decision approach suitable for uncertain and fuzzy environments. To obtain the scoring that corresponds to the best alternative or the ranking of the alternatives, we need to use a total order for the fuzzy numbers involved in the problem. In this article, we consider a definition of such a total order, which is based on two subjective aspects: the degree of optimism/pessimism reflected with the ordered weighted averaging(OWA) oprators. A numerical example, expecially location analysis for anchorage area, is given to illustrate the approach.

  • Power-aware design is one of the most important areas to be emphasized in multimedia mobile systems, in which data transfers dominate the power consumption. In this paper, we propose a new architecture for motion compensation (MC) of H.264/AVC with power reduction by decreasing the data transfers. For this purpose, a reconfigurable microarchitecture based on data type is proposed for interpolation and it is mapped onto the dedicated motion compensation IP (intellectual property) effectively without sacrificing the performance or the system latency. The original quarter-pel interpolation equation that consists of one or two half-pel interpolations and one averaging operation is designed to have different execution control modes, which result in decreasing memory accesses greatly and maintaining the system efficiency. The simulation result shows that the proposed method could reduce up to 87% of power consumption caused by data transfers over the conventional method in MC module.

  • A representative unit hydrograph responding to a small basin is used to calculate the flood discharge in the basin. The peak discharge and the time to peak of the unit hydrograph are dealt with its characteristic values. In this study it is shown and analyzed the fluctuations at peak discharges and times to peak of unit hydrographs by rainfall storms in a small national basin $8.5\;km^2$ wide are no small. And on assumption that a major factor in the fluctuations of the unit hydrographs in a small basin be rainfall intensity of a rainstorm, both relations of peak discharge and time to peak with rainfall intensity are suggested as exponential functions respectively. In this result although it is a limit of the study in which its result is accompanied with not small dispersion in the peak values of unit hydrograph due to a defect in used data it is sure an averaging regression relation between peak discharge and time to peak with rainfall intensity as identified in this study has hydrological worth from the complementary viewpoint of the theory of unit hydrograph.

  • The theory and practice of water quality scoring and indexing are introduced. The monthly water analysis data are available for six stations long the down-stream Han River whthin the areal boundary of the Special City of Seoul. The data cover the period between 1975 and 1979 inclusive and contain the analytical findings on 37 water constituents including DO, BOD, temperature, total solids and etc. Sic parameters are selected form the 37 items, that, to the judgement of the writer, best reflect the water quality of the Han River. They are; dissolved oxggen saturation, pH, fecal coliform, total solids, BOD and nitrate+ammonia. For each of the six parameters, a subscore function is developed and graphically presented to facilitate the transform of a measurment of the arameter to a subscore on a common score(e.G. 0-100) The score of a sample is calculated as a fuction of the six subscores, using four different approaches; (1) the unweighted arithmetic water quality score, (2) the weighted arithmetic water quality score, (3)the unweighted multiplicative score and (4) the reduced (total) score. Independent of these calculated scores, the experts' score which is calculated by averaging the ratings of water quality experts is obtained and compared with each of the four calculated scores by means of the least square method. The experts' score compares most favorably with the "reduced" score with the correlation coefficient of 0.956 : therefore this method of water quality scoring is adopted to calculate the Han River water quality scores and indices. Water quality index data for Guiri, ukdo, Pokwangdong, Noryangjin, Yongdungpo and Kayang Stations, 1975-1979 are as follow: The overall water quality index data of the Han River between Guiri and Kayang Stations are found; 47.3 in 1976, 48.0 in 1977, 48.5 in 1978 and 54.7 in 1979, indicating the general trend towards water quality improvent in this part of the river, in terms of the increased water quality index by average 1.85 points per year during this period. Finally the optimum sampling frequencies distributed among the six stations, using an equation which takes into account the coefficients of variation of the water quality scores and indices arec calculated.alculated.
