  • This paper deals with the reliability and availability characteristics of three different series system configurations with warm standby components and a repairable service station. The failure time of the primary and warm standby are assumed to be exponentially distributed with parameters ${\lambda}$ and ${\alpha}$ respectively. The repair time distribution of each server is also exponentially distributed with parameter ${\mu}$. The breakdown time and the repair time of the service station are also assumed exponentially distributed with parameters ${\gamma}$ and ${\beta}$ respectively. We derive the reliability dependent on time, availability dependent on time, the mean time to failure, $MTTF_i$, and the steady-state availability $A_i$(${\infty}$) for three configurations and perform comparisons. Comparisons are made for specific values of distribution parameters and of the cost of the components. The three configurations are ranked based on: $MTTF_i$, $A_i$(${\infty}$), and $C_i/B_i$ where $B_i$ is either $MTTF_i$ or $A_i$(${\infty}$).

  • Network intrusion refers to any unauthorized penetration or activity on a computer network. This upsets the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the network system. One of the major threats to any system's availability is a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack, which is intended to deny a legitimate user access to resources. Therefore, due to the complexity of DoS attacks, it is increasingly important to abstract and describe these attacks in a way that will be effectively detected. The automaton theory is used in this paper to implement a SYN Flood detection system based on Time-Dependent Finite Automata (TDFA).

  • In order to discuss the differences among the SMP(Surface Moisture Availability Parameter), by previous researchers on the basis of their own theoretical and empirical background, we assessed the SMP according to the soil types and volumetric soil water contents. The results are as follows. There are differences among all the five SMAPs. There's a tendency that the larger grain size, the higher value of parameters. And they divided into two groups for their value: one group has parameters with exponential function and the other with cosine and linear function. The maximum difference between the two groups appears when the volumetric soil water contents are 0.07m3m-3 for sand, 0.l1m3m-3 for loam, 0.12 for clay, and 0.13m3m-3 for silt loam. So, these differences must be considered when we estimate the surface evaporation rate. From field data, the paddy field soil around Junam reservoir is classified as a silt has high wetness, 0.56. So, the parameter obtained from the field measurement is much higher than that of Clapp and Hornberger(1978)'s Table. This study treated the SMP for a certain point of time in winter season. But if we measured the soil water contents continuously, we could obtain better time-dependent parameter. Key words : SMAP(Surface Moisture Availability Parameter), Paddy field, Volumetric soil water content, Evaporation, Capillary potential.

  • In this paper, the problem of delay-dependent stabilization for singular systems with multiple internal and external incommensurate constant point delays is investigated. The condition when a singular system subject to point delays is regular independent of time delays is given and it can be easily test with numerical or algebraic methods. Based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional approach and the descriptor integral-inequality lemma, a sufficient condition for delay-dependent stability is obtained. The main idea is to design multiple memoryless state feedback control laws such that the resulting closed-loop system is regular independent of time delays, impulse free, and asymptotically stable via solving a strict linear matrix inequality (LMI) problem. An explicit expression for the desired memoryless state feedback control laws is also given. Finally, a numerical example illustrates the effectiveness and the availability for the proposed method.

  • Phenol, acetaminophen (AA) and salicylamide are all known to be sulfated in rats and mice. We have previously demonstrated that capacity-limited sulfation of xenobiotics in rats is due to the reduced availability of hepatic 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulfate (PAPS), the cosubstrate for sulfation, which in turn is limited by the availability of its precursor, inorganic sulfate. Because species differences have been reported in the extent of sulfation, this study was conducted to determine whether these xenobiotics lower hepatic PAPS and sulfate in ICR mice. All three substrates decreased serum sulfate concentrations in a dose- and time-dependent manner. However, contrary to the observations in rats, phenol markedly increased hepatic PAPS concentrations in a dose-dependent manner, 1 hr after ip injection of 0∼4 mmol/kg. Following ip injection of 4 mmol/kg phenol, hepatic PAPS concentraions were enhanced 2∼3 fold, 0.5-2 hr after dosing and returned to control values 3 hr after dosing, whereas AA and salicylamide had little effect on hepatic PAPS concentraions. In summary, these studies demonstrate that phenol markedly enhances hepatic PAPS concentrations in mice, whereas hepatic PAPS levels are not affected by AA and salicylamide. Our data suggest that 1) hepatic sulfation for high dosages of xenobiotics in ICR mice is not limited by the availability of cosubstrate and 2) there are significant species differences in the regulation of PAPS between rats and mice.

We have previously demonstrated that capacity-limited sulfation of xenobiotics in rats is due to the reduced availability of hepatic PAPS, the co-substrate for sulfation, which in turn is limited by the availability of its precursor, inorganic sulfate. Because species differences have been reported in the extent of sulfation, this study was conducted to determine whether these xenobiotics lower hepatic PAPS and sulfate in ICR mice. All three substrates decreased serum sulfate concentrations in a dose-and time-dependent manner. However. contrary to the observations in rats, phenol markedly increased hepatic PAPS concentraions in a dose-dependent manner, 1 hr after ip injection of 0-4 mmol/kg. Following ip injection of 2 or4 mmol/kg phenol, hepatic PAPS concentraions were enhanced 2-3 fold, 0.52 hr arter dosing and returned to control values 3 hr after dosing, whereas AA and salicylamide had little effect on hepatic PAPS concentrations. In summary. these studies demonstrate that phenol markedly enhances hepatic PAPS concentrations in mice, whereas hepatic PAPS levels are not affected by AA and salicylamide. Our data suggest that 1) hepatic sulfation for high dosages of xenobiotics in ICR mice is not limiod by the availability of co-substrate, and 2) there are significant species differences in the regulation of PAPS between rats and mice.

  • Maintainability is a major design parameter that includes availability as well as reliability in a RAM (reliability, availability, maintainability) analysis, and is an index that must be considered when developing a system. There is a lack of awareness of the importance of predicting and analyzing maintainability; therefore, it is dependent on past-experience data. To improve the utilization rate, maintainability must be managed as a key indicator to meet the user's requirements for failure maintenance time and to reduce life-cycle costs. To improve the maintainability-prediction accuracy in the detailed design stage, we present a maintainability-prediction method that applies Method B of the Military Standardization Handbook (MIL-HDBK-472) Procedure V, as well as a Korean maintainability-prediction software package that reflects the system complexity.

  • This paper investigates the relationship between the spread of COVID-19 and time preference. In contrast to previous studies that compared time preferences before and during the pandemic, this study estimates time preferences during the COVID-19 period using eight surveys conducted over two years. Additionally, a regression analysis was conducted on the number of new COVID-19 cases and the time elapsed since the outbreak, with estimated time preference as the dependent variable. Despite a small sample size, statistically significant results were obtained, showing that as the number of new cases increased, time preference also increased. However, this effect diminished over time and disappeared by the end of 2021 in Japan. This may be due to the public's growing familiarity with the risks of COVID-19 and the availability of vaccines and treatments. Despite a significant increase in new cases in 2022, time preference was lower than immediately after the outbreak, and this was reflected in private investments. Immediately after the outbreak of COVID-19, private investments decreased by 12% compared to the previous year, but the investments are returning in 2022 despite the surge in the number of cases. The trend of time preference explains the trend of Japanese private investments very well.

  • The Global Positioning System(GPS) and the Strapdown Inertial Navigation System(SDINS) techniques have been widely utilized in many applications. However each system has its own weak point when used in a stand-alone mode. SDINS suffers from fast error accumulation dependent on an operating time while GPS has problem of cycle slips and just provides low update rate. The best solution is to integrate the GPS and SDINS system and its integration allows compensation for each shortcomings. This paper, first, is to define and derive error equations of integrated SDINS/GPS system before it will be applied on a real hardware system with gyro, accelerometer and GPS receiver. Second, the accuracy, availability and performance of this mechanization are verified on the simulation study.
