  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the perception of and attitude toward dementia and depression among residents in a community. Methods: Data were collected using the questionnaire from 226 residents in Incheon city from February to May, 2017. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe's test to identify differences in perception of and attitude toward dementia and depression. Pearson correlation coefficients were used to identify the correlation between the study variables, and multiple regression was used to identify factors affecting depression. Results: There were significant differences in perception of dementia according to age, education, marital status, and exercise. Also, significant differences in attitude toward dementia were found in occupation, family history of dementia and education about dementia. Depression was significantly different depending on the type of health insurance coverage and alcohol drinking. The scores of perception of dementia and depression were 11.09, 2.37, respectively on a 2-point scale and for attitude toward dementia was 85.94 on a 7-point Likert scale. The perception of dementia was positively correlated with the attitude toward dementia and there were negative correlations between perception of dementia and age and between depression and attitude toward dementia. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that we should improve perception of and attitude toward dementia and reduce depression to prevent and manage dementia effectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the home helpers' knowledge about facts on aging and attitude toward the elderly in Korea, and to find out the variables that may influence their attitude. Four hundred and thirty eight home helpers working in a home help agency were given the questionnaire containing the Kyung San Facts on Aging Quiz to measure the level of knowledge about aging and Yoon (1988)'s scale to find the direction of attitude toward the elderly. The results of this study are analyzed as follows: (1) The home helpers' level of knowledge about aging was 59.1%, which was lower than nurses' level (65.0%) and social workers' level (65.3%). And the paid home helpers' level of knowledge about aging was 61.2%, which was significantly different from the unpaid home helpers' level (57.0%). (2) Using 5 points scale, mean of home helpers' attitude toward the elderly was 2.56 (51.2%), which was different from nurses' attitude (40.6%) and social workers' attitude (62.0%). And the paid home helpers' attitude toward the elderly's action (29.9%) was significantly different from the unpaid home helpers' attitude (32.6%). (3) Using multiple regression analysis, the home helpers' levels of knowledge about aging was the most significant predictor to explain the home helpers' attitude toward the elderly. The other variables that are also statistically significant predictors of the home helpers' attitude were sex, voluntary experience for the elderly, age, city size, and personal experience with the elderly. Especially the significant predictors to explain the paid home helpers' attitude were their levels of knowledge about aging and city size. On the other hand, the significant predictors to explain the unpaid home helpers' attitude were sex and age. Based on the research results, implications for practice and future research are discussed, and education methods for making home helpers' attitude toward the elderly more positive are also suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was twofold: (1) to design a system for constructing Likert attitude scales as supported by the sociopsychological and measurement literature, and (2) (using the design) to develop an affective component of "Attitudes toward Science" scale for high school students. The rationale for developing a new attitude scale is presented in the context of a review of existing attitude scales. As discussed in the literature review, many existing attitude scales are based on ill-defined theoretical constructs, and includes statements that do not appear to be assessing a single construct of attitude toward science. In addition, existing attitude scales do not distinguish between affective and behavioral and cognitive components of attitude toward science. Thus, this study was to carefully define the construct, subcomponents of attitude toward science, and develop an affective component of "Attitude toward Science" scale to reflect the construct and to distinguish between affective and behavioral and cognitive components of attitude toward science. The results of this study: (1) three-mains step for designing reliable and valid attitude scale were developed, and (2) 35 items(16 positive and 19 negative) for an affective component of "Attitudes toward Science" scale with the following characteristics were developed: (a) The internal consistency was estimated using Cronbach's coefficient ${\alpha}$, 0.9727. (b) The range of adjusted item-total correletion(${\gamma}$-value) were 0.58${\sim}$0.83. (c) The correlation coefficient ranged between 0.61 and 0.74 revealing a moderate relatedness between subcomponents. (d) The correlation coefficient for concurrent validity were 0.55 with TOSRA and 0.51 with SAl.

  • The purpose of this study is to activate the disposition behaviour of dealing with the recyclable clothes by using the primary causes related to the behaviour. The summary of the outcome of this research is as follows. First. the attitude of girl students toward the consumption of their clothes is of great value. It presents the attitudes toward both the internal incentive and the external incentive are of great value and the attitude toward the external incentive has a little higher level than the attitude toward the internal incentive does : the altruistic behaviour of high school girls who tend to simply give or donate their clothes to their relatives or neighbors has a higher level than the economic behaviour by barter or sale at second-hand. Second. there's a positive correlation between the attitude toward the consumption of clothes and the altruistic behaviour in dealing with clothes and there is not a significant correlation between the attitude toward the consumption of clothes and the economic behaviour. The attitude toward the internal incentive has a positive correlation with the altruistic disposition. This research shows that there's a positive correlation between the attitude toward the external incentive and the economic disposition behaviour and the altruistic disposition behaviour. Third. the relative power of influence of the related variables that have an effect on the altruistic disposition behaviour shows that the attitude toward the internal incentive comes first and the personal contact with the information comes second. the attitude toward the consumption of clothes comes third and the existence of mother's job comes last in order of influence. The relative power of influence of the related variables that have an effect on the economic disposition behaviour shows that grades and the attitude toward the external incentive comes first and the existence of siblings comes next in order of influence.

A survey was conducted 201 college students with self-report questionnaire in one university of Ulsan. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and linear multiple regression with SPSS/WIN(21.0). Factors affecting attitude toward homosexuality included gender, former middle${\cdot}$high schools. Attitude toward homosexuality had a negative correlation with gender role attitude. And gender and gender role attitude accounted for 31.0% of the variance in attitude toward homosexuality. The major factors influencing attitude toward homosexuality were gender and gender role attitude. The more males than females and the more traditional gender role attitude were more negative toward homosexuality. Therefore, it is necessary to provide education program and establish a service program according to gender in order to develope and accept healthy identity of college students for the positive view on homosexuality.
