Atmospheric-pressure plasma has a great potential in many applications due to its simplicity rather than low pressure plasmas. In material processing, biomedical applications, and many other applications, the input power, gas flow rate, and the geometry of electrode have been mainly considered and studied as important external parameters of atmospheric-pressure plasma control. Besides, since the atmospheric-pressure plasmas are typically generated in an open air, the relative humidity is difficult to control and can change day by day. Therefore, the relative humidity cannot be ignored for plasmas. Thus, in this work, the atmospheric-pressure plasma jet was characterized by changing relative humidity, and it was found that the increase in electron density and OH radicals are due to Penning ionization between helium metastable and water vapors at higher humidity condition.
In the Atmosphere under the various physical and chemical condition different chemical reactions occur and there are a number of air pollutants which are generated by photochemical reaction by absorbing solar energy. Therefor various testing simulation was done as foundation work to develop the numerical model for the prediction of concentration of air pollutants. It was shown change of msjor air pollutants concentration In according to variation of photodissociation speed constant, Kl and Initial condition of air pollutants concentration which plays major role In photochemical reaction. The photochemical reaction model which was used In this study Is found to be useful for understanding relationship among the concentration of reacting air pollutants and the prediction of concentration of air pollutants in urban atmosphere.
Steel is generally not corrosion resistant to water with formation of non protective rusts on its surface. Rusts are composed of iron oxides such as $Fe_3O_4$, $\alpha-$, $\beta-$, $\gamma-$and ${\delta}-FeOOH$. However, steel, particularly weathering steel containing small amounts of Cu, Ni and Cr etc., shows good corrosion resistance against rural, industrial or marine environment. Its corrosion rate is exceedingly small as compared with that of carbon steel. According to the exposure test results undertaken in outdoor environments, the atmospheric corrosion rate for weathering steel is only 1 mm for a century. Atmospheric corrosion for steels proceeds under alternate dry and wet conditions. Dry condition is encountered on steel surface on fine or cloudy days, and wet condition is on rainy or snowy days. The reason why weathering steel shows superior atmospheric corrosion resistance is due to formation of corrosion protective rusts on its surface under very thin water layer. The protective rusts are usually composed of two layer rusts; the upper layer is ${\gamma}-FeOOH$ termed as lepidocrocite, and inner layer is nano-particle ${\alpha}-FeOOH$ termed as goethite. This paper is aimed at elucidating the atmospheric corrosion mechanism for steel in comparison with corrosion in bulky water environment by use of empirical data. The summary is as follows: 1. No corrosion protective rusts are formed on steel in bulky water. 2. Atmospheric corrosion for steel is the corrosion under wetting and drying conditions. Corrosion and passivation occur alternately on steel surface. Steel, particularly weathering steel with small amounts of alloying elements such as Cu, Ni and Cr etc. enhances forming corrosion protective rusts by passivation.
Experiments were conducted to define the optimal constituents of culture medium and atmospheric condition for growth of Campylobacter pylori. Two clinical isolates were streaked onto various media, incubated in two different atmospheric conditions (microaerophilic condition and carbon dioxide incubator), and growth was assessed semiquantitavely according to relative colony size and extent of growth through the streak. The growth obtained on Campy media, composed of GC agar base plus 1% hemoglobin, 0.2% activated charcoal, 1% IsoVitaleX, vancomycin 6mg/L nalidixic acid 20mg/L and amphotercin 2mg/L, was used as reference. Our conclusions were as follows: Tryptic soy agar base was not acceptable for the growth of C. pylori. As a sole supplementation, GC agar containing 1% hemoglobin was relatively adequate for the growth of C. pylori. The organism grew in both atmospheric conditions, but generally showed a scantier growth in the carbon dioxide incubator than under the microaerophilic condition, however GC agar containing 1% hemoglobin and 0.2% activated charcoal supported well the growth of C. pylori in the carbon dioxide incubator. The authors have found that the GC agar base supplemented with 1 % hemoglobin and 0.2% charcoal was the most satisfactory medium and a microaerophilic condition was optimal atmospheric condition for the growth of Campylobacter pylori in this study.
In this work, to make it possible to generate glow discharge in atmospheric pressure condition with relatively high and wide electric field, micro channel reactor is proposed. Si DRIE and Cr deposition by Ebeam evaporation is used to make channel and bottom electrode layer. Upper electrode is made from ITO glass to visualize discharge within micro channel. Fabricated reactor is verified by generating uniform glow plasma with N2 / He gases each as working fluid. The range of gas electric field to generate glow plasma is from about 200 V/cm and upper limit is not observed in tested condition of up to 150 kV/cm. This data shows that micro channel plasma reactor is more versatile. Indirect estimation of electron temperature in this reactor can be inferred that the electron temperature within glow discharge in micro reactor lies $0{\sim}2eV$. This research demonstrates that the reactor is appropriate in application that needs to maintain low temperature condition during chemical process.
A Lagrangian dispersion model has been developed to study the transport of atmospheric pollutants over the southern Korean peninsula on sunny summer days. A mesoscale atmospheric model has been employed to provide the wind fields and information for turbulent diffusion for the calculation of trajectories using a conditioned particle technique. The model has been applied to the simulation of the transport of atmospheric pollutants emitted from five sources in the coastal locations under various synoptic scale winds. Under calm synoptic scale condition, the particles emitted during daytime are mixed vertically and transported toward inland by sea-breeze, according to the model simulation. The particles are then transported upward at she sea-breeze front or by the upward motion over the mountain, and some particles show tendency of returning toward the coast by the return flow of the sea-breeze circulation. The particles are found to remain over the peninsula throughout the integration period under calm synoptic scale condition. When there is westerly synoptic scale winds the particles emitted in the west coast can reach the east coast within a day of faster depending on the speed. With a synoptic scale southerly wind of 5 m/s, most of the particles from the fine sources are advected toward inland during daytime. During nighttime, significant portion of particles released in the west coast remains over the land, while most particles released in the east coast move toward the sea to the east of the middle peninsula.
This study is essential for advancing our knowledge about the interaction between long-range high-power lasers and energetic materials, with a particular emphasis on understanding the response of a 155-mm shell under various surface irradiations, taking into account external factors such as atmospheric disturbances. The analysis addresses known limitations in understanding the use of non-realistic targets and the negligence of ambient conditions. The model employs the three-dimensional level-set method, computer-aided design (CAD)-based target design, and a message-passing interface (MPI) parallelization scheme that enables rapid calculations of the complex chemical reactions of the irradiated high explosives. Important outcomes from interaction modeling include the accurate prediction of the initiation time of ignition, transient pressure, and temperature responses with the location of the initial hot spot within the shell, and the relative magnitude of noise with and without the presence of physical ambient disturbances. The initiation time of combustion was increased by approximately a factor of two with atmospheric disturbance considered, while slower heating of the target resulted in an average temperature rise of approximately 650 K and average pressure increase of approximately 1 GPa compared to the no ambient disturbance condition. The results provide an understanding of the interaction between the high-power laser and energetic target at a long distance in an atmospheric condition.
Orifice meter is the most widely used flowmeter in custody transfer between KOGAS and city gas companies. Absolute pressure value is needed to calculate the gas flow of orifice metering system, but the gauge pressure transmitters are mainly used in the field. In case that the gauge pressure transmitters are used, the fixed value as standard atmospheric pressure(101.325kPa) is applied for the absolute pressure value. The real, local atmospheric pressures of each metering station are different from the standard condition as the altitude and weather conditions. In this study the flow calculation errors were quantitatively analyzed through examining the atmospheric pressures of 50 stations of KOGAS. The data for analysis are such like the time data of supplied gas amount, the altitude of each metering station, the time data of atmospheric pressures and altitudes of each weather observatory. The results showed that the local atmospheric pressures were different from the standard value and the gas flow calculation errors were distributed between $-0.024\%{\~}0.025\%$ based on the supplied gas amount in the year 1999 and 2000.

Since the atmospheric clearness index is one of the main factors for evaluating atmospheric circumstances, it is necessary to estimate its characteristics all over the cities in Korea. This study was focused on the evaluation of atmospheric condition for each 15 cities in terms of respectively or mutually analyzed clearness factor that was predicted on the assumed clear day with the model using factors such as average global insolation. cloud amount, and duration of sunshine measured for two years between 1996 and 1997. The new clearness index data will be extensively used by atmospheric circumstances analysts as well as by solar application designers or users.
