Optical Character Recognition (OCR) that has been a main research topic of computer vision and artificial intelligence now extend its applications to detection of text area from video or image contents taken by camera devices and retrieval of text information from the area. This paper aims to implement a binarization algorithm that removes user intervention and provides robust performance to outdoor lights by using TopHat algorithm and channel transformation technique. In this study, we particularly concentrate on text information of outdoor signboards and validate our proposed technique using those data.
We surveyed statistically the freshmen's achievement of the first year mathematics courses in Kwangwoon University, which were opened at the first semester of academic year 2006. In doing so, we classified the freshmen according to the Mathematical Area 'ga' or 'na' and the Natural Science or Social Science Area of Korean Scholastic Aptitude Test(KSAT) which they have chosen. We found that the freshmen who have chosen the Mathematical Area 'na' and the Social Science Area have the serious problem in studying the freshmen's math courses.

Now we using purpose area rule of city planning code in city planning areas for efficient, economical use of land and increasement of common welfare. Architectural code restrict building purpose after each division of area and this aimed for making more comfortable and convenient living atmosphere in city environment. Through this research we extracted conclusion about purpose area distinction system and restriction of building purpose after examined changes and tendencies of these rules. And the conclusion is the changes of purpose area distinction system issued from 32 kinds of distinctions in 1978, 28, 30, 32 kinds of distinctions in 1992 to 21kinds of distinctions in 1999 are caused by demand of enabling different purposes of programs can exist within one building possible.
We report 14 species of flowering plants as new additions to the flora of Laos. These are Illex viridis (Aquifoliaceae), Capparis erycibe (Capparaceae), Euphorbia bokorensis (Euphorbiaceae), Exacum darae (Gentianaceae), Aeschynanthus cambodiensis (Gesneriaceae), Tetraphyllum roseum (Gesneriaceae), Utricularia gibba (Lentibulariaceae), Macrosolen brandisianus (Loranthaceae), Decaschistia siamensis (Malvaceae), Nyssa yunnanensis (Nyssaceae), Adenia penangiana var. penangiana (Passifloraceae), Pentaphylax euryoides (Pentaphylacaceae), Wikstroemia bokorensis (Thymelaeaceae), and Debregeasia wallichiana (Urticaceae). We discovered the species during a botanical survey of the Phou Khao Khouay National Biodiversity Conservation Area (PKKNBCA) of Lao PDR in 2015-2019. In addition, nine rarely collected flowering plant species in Laos are newly reported for the PKKNBCA.
In this paper, we implemented a safety navigation mobile application that converged AtoN information and location-based services. When application user uses the smartphone's GPS sensor to transmit the user's vessel location data to the data server, the user receives information of which its providing range is considered, such as stored AtoN data, neighboring vessels information, danger area, and weather information in the server. Providing information is sorted based on the smartphone's direction and inclination and it will be also delivered via wireless network (5G, LTE, 3G, WiFi). Additionally the application is available to implement other functions such as information provision through voice and text alarming service when the user's vessel is either approaching or entering the danger area, and an expanded information provision service that is available in shadow area linking with data-storing methods; other linkable data such as weather and other neighboring vessels will be applied based on the lasted-saved data perceived from the non-shadow area.

During and shortly after the 2017 Pohang Earthquake ($M_w$ 5.4), sand blows were observed around the epicenter for the first time since the beginning of instrumental seismic recording in South Korea. We carried out field surveys plus satellite and drone imagery analyses, resulting in observation of approximately 600 sand blows on Quaternary sediment cover in this area. Most were observed within 3 km of the epicenter, with the farthest being 15 km away. In order to investigate the ground's susceptibility to liquefaction, we conducted a trench study of a 30 m-long sand blow in a rice field 1 km from the earthquake epicenter. The physical characteristics of the liquified sediments (grain size, impermeable barriers, saturation, and low overburden pressure) closely matched the optimum ground conditions for liquefaction. Additionally, we found a series of soft sediment deformation structures (SSDSs) within the trench walls, such as load structures and water-escaped structures. The latter were vertically connected to sand blows on the surface, reflecting seismogenic liquefaction involving subsurface deformation during sand blow formation. This genetic linkage suggests that SSDS research would be useful for identifying prehistoric damage-inducing earthquakes ($M_w$ > 5.0) in South Korea because SSDSs have a lower formation threshold and higher preservational potential than geomorphic markers formed by surface ruptures. Thus, future combined studies of Quaternary surface faults and SSDSs are required to provide reliable paleoseismological information in Korea.

The synthesis of semiconductor nanoparticles is a growing research area due to the prospective applications for the development of novel technologies. In this paper we have reported the biosynthesis of Cadmium sulfide nanoparticles (CdSNPs) by reduction of cadmium sulphate solution, using the bacteria of Serratia nematodiphila. The process for the synthesis of CdS nanoparticles is fast, novel and ecofriently. Formation of the CdS nanoparticles was confirmed by surface Plasmon spectra using UV-Vis spectrophotometer and absorbance strong peak at 420 nm. The morphology of crystalline phase of nanoparticles was determined from Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra. The average size of CdS nanoparticles was in the range of 12 nm and the observed morphology was spherical. The results indicated that the proteins, which contain amine groups, played a reducing and controlling responsibility during the formation of CdS nanoparticles in the colloidal solution. Antibacterial activity against some bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella planticola. CdS nanoparticles exhibiting good bactericidal activity.

The determination of the boron isotopic ratio in solutions was achieved by means of a solid state track detector by using an alpha track. The neutron flux was optimized by using a Cd-foil to find the optimum conditions for counting the number of alpha tracks on the selected solid detector caused by the (n, $\alpha$) nuclear reaction of boron. The home-made multi-dot detector plate was utilized in this study to increase the reproducibility of the measurement by uniformly drying the boron solution within the marked circle area on the detector plate. The experimental results of this study verified that the $^{11}B/^{10}B $ isotopic ratio can be measured by observing the number of alpha tracks for different concentrated standard solutions with various isotopic compositions. This technique was applied to the determination of $^{10}B$ enrichment factor in a biological sample for a boron neutron capture therapy.
Leaf spot symptoms were frequently observed on yam plants grown in the Yeoju area in Korea during a disease survey in 2008. A total of five isolates of Pseudophloeosporella sp. were obtained from the infected leaves of yam plants. All of the isolates were identified as Pseudophloeosporella dioscoreae based on their morphological and cultural characteristics. A phylogenetic tree derived from the internal transcribed spacer sequences of the fungal isolates showed that the fungus is distinctly separated from species in other related genera. P. dioscoreae isolates caused very tiny spots on leaves of yam plants two weeks after artificial inoculation which were similar to those observed in the field. This is the first report that Pseudophloeosporella dioscoreae causes leaf spot in yams in Korea.
Size-sorted graphene nanoplatelets are highly desired for fundamental research and technological applications of graphene. Here we show a facile approach for fabricating size-sorted graphene oxide (GO) nanoplatelets by a simple centrifugal method using different dispersion solvents. We found that the small-sized GO nanoplatelets were more effectively separated when dispersed in water or dimethylformamide (DMF) than in an alkali aqueous solution. After several iterations of the centrifugation, the sizes of GO in the supernatant solution were mostly several micrometers. We found that the GO area was not strongly correlated with the C-O content of the GO dispersed in water. However, the size-sorted GO nanoplatelets in DMF showed different C-O content, since DMF can reduce GO nanoplatelets during exfoliation and centrifugation processes.
