Corrugated bulkheads have many advantages compared to stiffened bulkheads, and they have thus been used for the cargo tank bulkheads of commercial vessels, such as bulk carriers, product oil carriers, and chemical tankers. Various studies have been carried out to find the optimum corrugation shape for bulk carriers, but optimum design studies for chemical tankers with bulkheads made of high-priced materials are scarce. The purpose of this study is to develop a minimum weight design method for horizontal corrugated bulkheads for a chemical tanker. An evolution strategy (ES) that searches for a reliable global optimum point was applied as an optimization technique, and the structural safety of the optimum design was verified through structural analysis using the finite element method (FEM). The results were compared with those of an existing ship, which showed a weight reduction of about 14% with equivalent structural strength.

In this paper, an optimization algorithm for the block assembly accuracy control assessment is proposed with consideration for the current block assembly process and accuracy control procedure used in the shipbuilding site. The objective function of the proposed algorithm consists of root mean square error of the distances between design and measured data of the other control points with respect to a specific point of the whole control points. The control points are divided into two groups: points on the control line and the other points. The grouped data are used as criteria for determining the combination of 6 degrees of freedom in the registration process when constituting constraints and calculating objective function. The optimization algorithm is developed by using combination of the sampling method and the point to point relation based modified ICP algorithm which has an allowable error check procedure that makes sure that error between design and measured point is under allowable error. According to the results from the application of the proposed algorithm with the design and measured data of two blocks data which are verified and validated by an expert in the shipbuilding site, it implies that the choice of whole control points as target points for the accuracy calculation shows better results than that of the control points on the control line as target points for the accuracy of the calculation and the best optimized result can be acquired from the accuracy calculation with a fixed point on the control line as the reference point of the registration.

A residential space where a person lives in may change following the flow of time and it has evolved in various shapes through the development process of a city. In particular, after the 1900s when the modern urban planning was first applied in full-scale, the urban environment and residential environment have formed cities through systematic planning. Under the assumption that the level of satisfactory life for urban residents residing in such an urban environment would be influenced mutually with the residential environment and urban environment to carry out this study, and as for the methodology of this study, the questionnaire was implemented with the subject of residents in Seoul City and analysis was implemented for regression analysis through SPSS 20.0 program. The results of the study are shown as follows. First, the relationship of the residential environment and urban environment is classified for convenience, safety and pleasance to have the important implication, and the level of satisfaction for the residential environment is analyzed to show implications with influence on the level of satisfaction for settlement consciousness. Second, the relationship of influence of residential environment on the settlement consciousness with the characteristics of urban environment is statistically noticeable and the stability and pleasance would have the statistically noticeable influence on satisfactory residential environment and the convenience would not render noticeable influence. And, third, under the characteristics of urban environment, convenience does not have direct influence on the settlement consciousness and it is confirmed to influence on the settlement consciousness indirectly only through the satisfaction of variation in the residential environment.

The greenhouse type metal structures are increasingly used in modern construction of livestock farms because they are less laborious to construct and they provide a more favorable microclimate for the growth of animals compared to conventional livestock structures. A key stress factor for metal structures is the wind. The external pressure coefficient ($c_{pe}$) is used for the calculation of the wind effect on the structures. A high pressure coefficient value leads to an increase of the construction weight and subsequently to an increase in the construction cost. The EC1 in conjunction with EN 13031-1:2001, which is specialized for greenhouses, gives values for this coefficient. This value must satisfy two requirements: the safety of the structure and a reduced construction cost. In this paper, the Navier - Stokes and continuity equations are solved numerically with the finite element method (Galerkin Method) in order to simulate the two dimensional, incompressible, viscous air flow over the vaulted roofs of single span and twin-span with eaves livestock greenhouses' structures, with a height of 4.5 meters and with length of span of 9.6 and 14 m. The simulation was carried out in a wind tunnel. The numerical results of pressure coefficients, as well as, the distribution of them are presented and compared with data from Eurocodes for wind actions (EC1, EN 13031-1:2001). The results of the numerical experiment were close to the values given by the Eurocodes mainly on the leeward area of the roof while on the windward area a further segmentation is suggested.

Safety is always acritical focus of exploration of ocean resources, and it is well recognized that human factor is one of the major causes of accidents and breakdowns. Our research developed a dynamic human reliability assessment approach, Predicted Mean Vote-Cognitive Reliability and Error Analysis Method (PMV-CREAM), that is applicable to monitoring the cognitive reliability of oceanauts during deep-sea missions. Taking into account the difficult and variable operating environment of manned submersibles, this paper analyzed the cognitive actions of oceanauts during the various procedures required by deep-sea missions, and calculated the PMV index using human factors and dynamic environmental data. The Cognitive Failure Probabilities (CFP) were calculated using the extended CREAM approach. Finally, the CFP were corrected using the PMV index. This PMV-CREAM hybrid model can be utilized to avoid human error in deep-sea research, thereby preventing injury and loss of life during undersea work. This paper verified the method with "Jiaolong" manned submersible 7,000 m dive test. The"Jiaolong" oceanauts CR(Corrected CFP) is dynamic from 3.0615E-3 to 4.2948E-3, the CR caused by the environment is 1.2333E-3. The result shown the PMV-CREAM method could describe the dynamic human reliability of manned submersible caused by thermal environment.

In this paper, we proposed new sensor network architecture with autonomous robots based on beacon mode and implemented real time monitoring system in real test-bed environment. The proposed scheme offers beacon based real-time scheduling for reliable association process with parent nodes and dynamically assigns network address by using NAA (Next Address Assignment) mechanism. For the large scale multi-sensor processing, our real-time monitoring system accomplished the intelligent database processing, which can generate not only the alert messages to the civilians but also process various sensing data such as fire, air, temperature and etc. Moreover, we also developed mobile robot which can support network mobility. Though the performance evaluation by using real test-bed system, we illustrate that our proposed system demonstrates promising performance for emergence monitoring systems.
This paper deals with numerical analyses in the context of estimations of hydrodynamic motions and dynamic loads for a floating type offshore platform using some exclusive simulation code such as code for the simulation of a floating type of offshore crane based on multi-body dynamics, along with the commercial code AQWA. Verifications of numerical models are carried out by comparing the RAO results from the simulation code. In the verification analyses, hydrodynamic motions are examined in the frequency domain for the floating type offshore platform according to the mooring lines. Both the hydrodynamic motions and dynamic loads are estimated for floating type offshore platforms equipped with the catenary type and taut mooring lines. A review and comparison are carried out for the numerically estimated results. The structural safety of the connection parts in an offshore structure such as a floating type offshore platform is one of the most important design criteria in view of fatigue life. The dynamic loads in the connecting area between a floating type offshore platform and its mooring lines are estimated in detail according to variations in the mechanical properties of the mooring lines. The dynamic tension load on the mooring lines is also estimated.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the distribution characteristics of the agency-managed shared housings in Seoul and draw the possible implications from it. The needed data for the study was obtained from an on-line shared housing portal service which provides housing information from various shared housing management agencies. By mapping out the locations and other related data into a GIS(Geographic Information System) program, this study shows that shared housings in Seoul can be sorted into four large clusters. Each cluster has a different ratio of housing types and room capacities reflecting each regional circumstance and common causes. Women-only shared housing takes up 79% of the overall shared housing ratio and, while multi-family housing type has the most count, the apartment type has a noticeably high ratio in women-only housing compared to the apartment type ratio among the other gender-specific housings. Given the high crime rate against the single-person household of young adult women, the reason for the popularity of shared-apartment housing among young women can be deduced. However, the potential tenants' practical choices and their concern for safety are not the only causes that drive the current shared housing market. The young adults in their 20's and 30's choose to live in popular places where they can engage social activities. A new tier of shared housing market has also appeared in places where young adults could not have afforded if they lived alone. Choosing where we live is no longer about just meeting the requirements for a house based on what she/he needs but also about satisfying the preferences for a living based on what she/he desires. This paper indicates that although there is an undeniable premise that 'sharing a house' revolves around the realm of housing welfare and is not a typical topic for the upper-income households, the way we live and how we choose our place to live is shifting.

Improvements in the quality of life have resulted in a heightened awareness of safety and the environment. As a result, timber as an environmentally friendly material, is used for landscape facilities and a wide range of purposes. But there are a large number of defects since there are twists and cracks that can be found in wooden landscape facilities. This has led to the use of imported hardwood instead of the Western Hemlock which has been in widespread use. Hardwood is expensive. However, it is being used without any information or research on how much it reduces the actual defects. Construction contractors are in great need of information on the characteristics and defect rates of different types of timber. This study investigated and analyzed the cracks in four types of timber - namely the Western Hemlock, Burckella, Nyatoh and Malas - in order to provide basic information to construction contractor for them to be able to select and use the appropriate type of timber. The main results of this study are as follows. First, the Western Hemlock had 1.90 $cracks/m^2$, Malas had 0.83 $cracks/m^2$, Burckella had 0.14 $cracks/m^2$, and the Nyatoh had the least number of surface defects at 0.04 $cracks/m^2$. Second, while Malas has the highest degree of strength timber, Nyatoh had the smallest defect rate. This showed that having high timber strength does not necessarily mean it has less defects. Third, the Western Hemlock was the least expensive and Burckella was the most expensive. However, considering the cost of repairing defects, it would be economically advantageous to use Burckella and Nyatoh which have low defect rates. This study aimed to provide basic information to landscape construction contractors for them to be able to select and use the appropriate type of timber when constructing wooden outdoor rest furniture. The results are expected to contribute to quality enhancements and defect reduction in landscape facilities.
This study was to understand the basic principles of the East Asian wooden structure system research and analysis.
