This paper presents a general algorithm of multi-item continuous review models to obtain simultaneous solutions for ordering quantities and reorder points for each item in an inventory, while satisfying constraints on average inventory investment and reordering workload. Two models are formulated'in each model the heuristic method is utilized, and the partial back-logging is considered. In the first model, the objective function is the minimization of total inventory variable cost. In the second model, the objective function is the minimization of total time-weighted shortages, and the ordering, holding, and stockout costs in this model are independent each other. A numerical example is also solved to present application of each model.

Since the input data such as types and quantities of materials cannot be acquired during the planning and designing phases, it is difficult to estimate the carbon emissions from the construction phase. As the materials are closely related to the building usages, an approximate estimation by the usages can be suggested. However, before confirming the estimation, the difference test among the carbon emissions of the building usages should be implemented. This study executed t-test or Mann-Whitney test between apartments and schools. The result of the study statistically verified the significant difference between the carbon emissions of apartments and schools.

A new optimization procedure with approximate reanalysis module, using the staged hybrid methods with substructuring, is proposed in is study. In this procedure, displacements are calculated with two step mixed procedures. First step is to introduce the conservative approximation, which is a hybrid form of the linear and reciprocal approximation, as local approximation. In the next step, it is combined with the global approximation by reduced basis approach. The quality of reanalyzed quantities can be greatly improved through these staged hybrid approximations, specially for large changes in the design. Overall procedures are based on substructuring scheme. Several numerical examples illustrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed methods.

This paper has developed the system for supporting the approximate construction cost and the quantity estimation based on 3D model information in the pre-project planning phase of 3-span continuous cable-bridge with 2-pylons. First of all, we'd analyzed the design information (structural design report, blueprint and quantity) of the existing cable-stayed bridges and derived the design variables of cable-stayed bridges. We developed the BIM wizard that generates a cable-stayed bridge model parametrically based on derived design variables. The principle material quantities of cable-stayed bridge are calculated directly from 3-dimensional bridge model built by using the BIM wizard. Then, we can estimate the construction cost in relation to its quantities and unit cost of cable-stayed bridge. In a result, we have established the system that the construction cost can be estimated more specific than the conventional method (construction estimates per meter or square meter). We hereby will be able to review various alternatives as soon as possible in bidding process.

In many reservoir projects, economic considerations will necessitate a design utilizing surcharge. Determination of the most economical combination of surcharge and spillway capacity for a given spillway crest level will require flood routing studies and economic studies of the dam-reservoir-spillway combinations. Many methods of actual flood routing have been devised, each of them with its advantages and disadvantages. Some of these methods are listed below: (1) Arithmetical trial-and-error method. (2) Modified Puls' method (3) Cheng's graphical method (4) Horton's arithmetical method (5) Ekadahl's arithmetical method (6) Digital computer programming. For the purpose of preliminary design and cost estimating of dams and spillways, it is often required to estimate, for a given design flood and spillway crest level. the approximate values of two among the three characteristics of the spillway spillway length, maximum discharge and surcharge depth at maximum discharge, when one of these quantities is given. As is well known, the outflow hydrograph for an ungated overflow spillway assumes the form of a wave-shaped curve with a minimum point for Q=o At zero time and a maximum point for Q=Qmax at its intersection with the falling leg of the inflow hydrograph (see Fig. 4) The shaded area between the inflow and outflow hydrographs represents at the approximate scale the temporary retention Vt. In line with the remarks, draw by free hand the assumed outflow hydrograph with its maximum point for the given Qmax (see Fig. 4) and by planimetration find Vt. From the reservoir capacity curve (Fig. 3) find Vs for the given spillway crest level and make V=Vs+Vt. From the above curve find surcharge water elevation for V and surcharge depth Hmax over spillway crest. From the discharge formula compute {{{{L= { Q} over { { CH}^{3/2 } } }}}} The methed provides a means for a quick and fairly accurate estimation of spillway capacity.
By extensive studies with the quantitative status of the mineral constituents of thousands of water samples, it was found that almost in all natural waters irrespective of the surface or sub-surface sources, minimum 99.5% of the total amount of the cationic constituents are generally the contributions of 3 commonly present parameters viz. Ca, Mg and Na and that of the anionic species are same and contributed by $HCO_3$, Cl and $SO_4$ only. In the field of water works, all these major mineral substances are conventionally measured as their individual ions. But till now, no reliable and generalised methods or rules have been developed for the determination of the exact kinds of the individual salt components and their amounts from these ionic constituents normally present in water. As salt content, only the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) parameter is frequently measured by evaporation of the water sample. But TDS can tell nothing about the kinds and amounts of the individual salts present in it. Considering the analytical importance of the estimation of the mineral substances as their individual salts, some generalised mathematical models have been developed by this research which are based on the 'hypothetical order of chemical combinations' as may occur among the ionic constituents. With the help of these models, one can easily assume the most probable salts with approximate quantities derived from the ionic constituents. In addition, approximate amount of Na content can also be estimated mathematically with simultaneous verification of the correctness of the water analysis results. The models are stated in this paper with practical illustrations and descriptions of the method of applications.

An approximate analysis is presented for multi-story setback buildings subjected to ground motions. Setback buildings with mass and stiffness discontinuities are common in modern architecture and quite often they are asymmetric in plan. The proposed analysis provides basic dynamic data (frequencies and peak values of base resultant forces) and furthermore an overview of the building response during a ground excitation. The method is based on the concept of the equivalent single story system, which has been introduced by the author in earlier papers for assessing the response of uniform in height buildings. As basic quantities of the dynamic response of elastic setback buildings can be derived by analyzing simple systems, a structural layout of minimum elastic rotational response can be easily constructed. The behavior of such structural configurations, which is basically translational into the elastic phase, is also examined into the post elastic phase when the strength assignment of the various bents is based on a planar static analysis under a set of lateral forces simulating an equivalent 'seismic loading'. It is demonstrated that the almost concurrent yielding of all resisting elements preserves the translational response, attained at the end of the elastic phase, to the post elastic one.

Spot blotch caused by the hemibiotrophic pathogen Cochliobolus sativus has been the major yield-reducing factor for barley production during the last decade. Monitoring transcriptional reorganization triggered in response to this fungus is an essential first step for the functional analysis of genes involved in the process. To characterize the defense responses initiated by barley resistant and susceptible cultivars, a survey of transcript abundance at early time points of C. sativus inoculation was conducted. A notable number of transcripts exhibiting significant differential accumulations in the resistant and susceptible cultivars were detected compared to the non-inoculated controls. At the p-value of 0.0001, transcripts were divided into three general categories; defense, regulatory and unknown function, and the resistant cultivar had the greatest number of common transcripts at different time points. Quantities of differentially accumulated gene transcripts in both cultivars were identified at 24 h post infection, the approximate time when the pathogen changes trophic lifestyles. The unique and common accumulated transcripts might be of considerable interest for enhancing effective resistance to C. sativus.
In this study, the transverse vibrations of an axially moving flexible beams resting on multiple supports are investigated. The time-dependent velocity is assumed to vary harmonically about a constant mean velocity. Simple-simple, fixed-fixed, simple-simple-simple and fixed-simple-fixed boundary conditions are considered. The equation of motion becomes independent from geometry and material properties and boundary conditions, since equation is expressed in terms of dimensionless quantities. Then the equation is obtained by assuming small flexural rigidity. For this case, the fourth order spatial derivative multiplies a small parameter; the mathematical model converts to a boundary layer type of problem. Perturbation techniques (The Method of Multiple Scales and The Method of Matched Asymptotic Expansions) are applied to the equation of motion to obtain approximate analytical solutions. Outer expansion solution is obtained by using MMS (The Method of Multiple Scales) and it is observed that this solution does not satisfy the boundary conditions for moment and incline. In order to eliminate this problem, inner solutions are obtained by employing a second expansion near the both ends of the flexible beam. Then the outer and the inner expansion solutions are combined to obtain composite solution which approximately satisfying all the boundary conditions. Effects of axial speed and flexural rigidity on first and second natural frequency of system are investigated. And obtained results are compared with older studies.
