In order to assess the possibility in utilizing the rice soybean paste (rice doenjang) powder as food processing materials, the quality of cookies added with 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7% of rice soybean paste powder was investigated. Lightness decreased from 74.14 to 62.83, while redness increased from 6.30 to 11.14 with increasing rice soybean paste powder contents. Hardness value of the cookies was increased from 426.29 g to 829.29 g as increasing soybean paste powder amounts from 0% to 7%. In sensory evaluation, the cookie added with 5% soybean paste powder showed the highest acceptable scores. Approximate composition of cookies containing rice soybean powder was composed with 2.4~2.7% of moisture, 6.8~7.5% of crude protein, 22.6~27.3% of crude fat, 0.8~5.5% of crude fiber and 0.5~1.1% of crude ash.
Background: Medication counseling is important to improve qualify of pharmaceutical care, but there are lack of studies to investigate satisfied counseling practice in community pharmacies. Purpose: This study was to investigate current medication counseling provided by community pharmacists. Method: Questionnaires to assess medication counseling practices were mailed to nationwide 1,269 community pharmacists who were Sookmyung Women's University alumni. Result: One hundred sixty five pharmacists were responded to the questionnaires (response rate 13.63%). 16.8% of them all respondents had counseling room in their pharmacies. 75% and 29.9% of respondents provided patient counseling always for new and refilled prescriptions, respectively. Counseling was provided primarily by verbal, but especially for drug name, usage and storage, it was provided in written concurrently. 31.1% of respondents was satisfied with counseling practices by themselves, and a major barrier of unsatisfied counseling was lack of time in 64.6% of respondents. Majorities of respondents (66.3% and 76.3%) spent 1-3 minutes and <1 minute, for new prescription and refilled prescription, respectively. Approximate 99% of respondents presented necessity of standardized patient counseling information for drugs and 97.6% responded that quality of patient counseling would be improved by using software containing counseling information. Old respondent group had higher accumulative patient counseling practice scores and pharmacy owner group took much time for counseling, resulting in higher scores too. Conclusion: This study showed that qualified patient counseling practice has not been reached in community pharmacies. Much more discussion to seek ways to improve the quality would be necessary.
The evaluation of the system reliability is generally quite difficult and costly as the structure becomes large and complex, especially when it is subjected to multiple time varying loads, and for redundant structures which have many possible modes of failur, e.g., system collapse through the formation of plastic hinge mechanisms. In reality most loadings acting on the structures are random in intensity as well as in occurrence time and duration. To include the load variability in time, the loads are described in terms of stochastic processes. Based on a tri-modal upper bound, a point estimate for the system reliability has been developed for more accuracy without extensive computational effort. This tri-modal point estimate also ensures the continuity of the system reliability function, which is a necessary condition in many nonlinear programming techniques. In addition, the Load Coincidence method, by which the combined effect of time varying loads are taken into account, has been modified to suitable for cases with an always-on load.
This study was designed to investigate the possible utilization of mugwort as a source of functional ingredients. The approximate composition for mugwort powder was 5.06% moisture, 1.98% crude protein, 4.65% crude fat, 5.85% ash and 82.46% carbohydrate. The highest mineral content was potassium. The contents of total phenolic compounds and condensed tannin were 114 mg% and 11,000 mg%, respectively. The highest electron donating ability(EDA) was observed from the ethyl acetate and butanol fractions of mugwort powder but the lowest was shown by the hexane fraction. In color values, with increasing mugwort powder content, the 'lightness', 'redness' and 'yellowness' decreased in the crust, while in the crumb bread the 'lightness' decreased and the 'redness', and 'yellowness' increased. With the addition of mugwort powder as a substitute for strong flour over the range from 2.5% to 10.0%, the ratio of the volume and specific volume of white bread decreased while its weight increased. In the texture measurements for white breads, the hardness decreased slightly with the addition of 2.5% mugwort powder, but then increased with further additions of mugwort up to 10.0%. The addition of 2.5% mugwort powder increased the springiness and gumminess of white bread. The highest sensory scores for color, flavor, taste, texture and overall acceptance as evaluated by a student sensory panel were obtained from white bread with 2.5% mugwort powder and from the control. The highest sensory scores as evaluated by a baker sensory panel were obtained from white bread with 2.5% mugwort powder. In ranking test, overall acceptability of white bread was the highest in the control. Overall acceptance scores by sensory evaluation of white bread with 2.5% mugwort powder were not significantly different from those of control.

This study was performed at eleven small-sized plating factories located in Seoul, Incheon, Ansan, and Taejeon from July 21 to October 6, 1992. The major objectives of this study were to evaluate worker exposure to hexavalent chromium and local exhaust ventilation (L.E.V.) systems at the chromium plating operations. The most suitable L.E.V. systems for chromium plating tanks were designed as examples for recommendation to the industry. The results are summarized as follows. The range of chromium plating operations investigated included decorative, hard, and black chromium plating on several kinds of parts. Most of plating tanks were not equipped with proper control methods against emission of hexavalent chromium mists and workers were not wearing appropriate personal protectives. The ariborne hexavalent chromium concentrations showed an approximate lognormal distribution. The geometric means of both personal and area samples were within the Korean and ACGIH standards, $50{\mu}g/m^3$. However, in comparison with the NIOSH criterion, $1{\mu}g/m^3$, the geometric means of personal samples at two factories and the geometric means of area samples at two factories exceeded it. The geometric means of personal and area samples of high exposure groups (above the NIOSH criterion) were 7 and 27 times higher than those of low exposure groups (below the NIOSH criterion), respectively. The L.E.V. systems of high exposure groups were improperly designed, and the factory with the highest exposure level had no L.E.V. systems at all on chemical etching process. Whereas at factories of low exposure groups, mist control methods such as mist suppressants, tank cover, and/or auxillary L.E.V. systems were added to L.E.V systems. The evaluation of L.E.V. systems showed that there was no chromium plating operation satisfying the ACGIH criteria for capture velocity, slot velocity, and exhaust rate simultaneously. To increase performance of L.E.V. systems, it must be designed to minimize the impact of boundary layer separation. Push-pull ventilation hood and downward plenum ventilation hood were suggested for the Korean industry.

The object of this study was two. One was if Polygonati Rhizoma preparata had a benzo(a)pyrene, the other was to evaluate the single dose toxicity of 9 repetitive steaming and fermenting processed Polygonati Rhizoma, dried root parts of Polygonati Rhozoma preparata extract, in male and female mice. We measured a content of benzo(a)pyrene in Polygonati Rhozoma preparata using a method with HPLC/FLD. And for single dose toxicity, aqueous extracts of Polygonati Rhozoma preparata (EPP; Yield = 35.4 %) was administered to female and male ICR mice as an oral dose of 2,000, 1,000 and 500 mg/kg (body weight) according to the recommendation of Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) Guidelines. Animals were monitored for the mortality and changes in body weight, clinical signs and gross observation during 14 days after dosing, upon necropsy; organ weight and histopathology of 12 principle organs were examined. As results, we could not find any mortality, clinical signs, and changes in the body and organ weight except for slight soft feces sporadically detected in EPP treated male mice at 1 day after administration. In addition, no EPP-treatment related abnormal gross findings and changes in histopathology of principle organs were detected except for some sporadic accidental findings. The results obtained in this study suggest that benzo(a)pyrene was not existed in Polygonati Rhozoma preparata and the 50% lethal dose and approximate lethal dose of EPP aqueous extracts in both female and male mice were considered as over 2,000 mg/kg, the limited highest dosage recommended by KFDA Guidelines. However, it also observed that the possibilities of digestive disorders, like soft feces when administered over 500 mg/kg of EPP aqueous extracts in the present study.

SEMMA (Soil Erosion Model for Mountain Areas) should be revised to apply on mountain watershed of large scale. In this study, the basic structure of original SEMMA and methods to calculate main parameters are reviewed and the revised parameters are presented to expand a range of application. SEMMA-Ic is new model revised by a rate of vegetation cover which is substituted for index of vegetation structure to use specially NDVI for large scale areas. The correlation coefficient and the Nash-Sutcliffe simulation efficiency for the revised model decreased rather than those of original model. However the evaluation of the revised model on watershed showed the approximate simulation with measured sediment yield and the underestimated simulation when sediment yield is large. The additional research for channel erosion is needed so that soil erosion model for hillslopes is used to estimate sediment yield from a watershed.
It was reviewed for the 2D numerical simulations to evaluate the effects of flood control by detention basin, even if stage-discharge relationships for the side weir were not known. A 2D depth-integrated numerical model was constructed by the application of the finite volume method to the shallow water equations as a numerical method and the introduction of an approximate Riemann solver for the accurate calculation of fluxes. Results by the model were compared with those by the laboratory test for the cases of free overflow and submerged flow over a side weir between the channel and storage. The difference between simulated and measured discharge coefficients for the case of free overflow is very small. In addition, the results by simulations were in good agreement with those by experiments for the submerged flow over a side weir and its mechanism was reproduced well. Through this study the discharge coefficients of side weirs can be accurately determined by the 2D numerical model and a considerable degree of accuracy can be achieved to evaluate the effect of flood defenses by detention basins. Thus, it will be expected to apply this model practically to the plan of detention basins, the evaluation of design alternatives, or the management of the existing ones.

The adjectives for represnting emotions is important to evaluate and select the colors or color patterns. In this paper, we perform the MDS analysis, factor analysis, and cluster analysis to the Soen's experimental data obtained from the evaluation of random color patterns with 13 adjective pairs. As a result, those adjectives can be reduced 3 different factors representing emotions of weight, activity and temperature, which is approximately corresponds the results of previous researches on single colors. Also, we show that the adjectives for preference can be approximate4 by other primary adjectives for color patterns using regression analysis. This implies that one can construct a uniform emotion space for evaluating and selecting color patterns regardless of objects such as wall papers, carpets, and so on.
Objectives To assess the safety of Shinbaro3 Pharmacopuncture by analyzing the potential single-dose intramuscular toxicity of Shinbaro3 Pharmacopuncture at various dose levels in SD (Spraque-Dawley) rats and Beagle dogs. Methods For evaluation of single-dose intramuscular toxicity of Shinbaro3 Pharmacopuncture, 40 SD rats (20 male and 20 famale) and 4 Beagle dogs (2 male and 2 female) were used. The rats were divided in four groups of 10 each, and treated intramuscularly with Shinbaro3 Pharmacopuncture at doses of 0.3, 0.6 and 1.2 mg/kg in distilled water, and distilled water as a vehicle control group, respectively. The Beagle dogs were divided into two groups of 2 each, and treated intramuscularly with Shinbaro3 Pharmacopuncture at doses of 0.15, and 0.3 mg/kg in distilled water, respectively, and signs of toxicity were observed. After a wash-out period of 3 days, the procedure was repeated with Shinbaro3 Pharmacopuncture at doses of 0.6, and 1.2 mg/kg in distilled water, respectively. Mortality, body weight changes, and necropsy findings were examined during the study period. Results There were no mortalities in either the SD rats or Beagle dogs. There were also no significant differences in adverse effects, body weight, or necropsy findings between the Shinbaro3 Pharmacopuncture and control groups. Conclusions There results suggest that the lethal dose 50 ($LD_{50}$) and approximate lethal dose (ALD) value of the test substance Shinbaro3 Pharmacopuncture are higher than 1.2 mg/kg in SD rats and Beagle dogs.
