  • In this report, the plasmonic nanopores of less than 5 nm diameter were fabricated on the apex of the pyramidal cavity array. The metallic pyramidal pit cavity can also utilized as the plasmonic bioreactor, and the fabricated Au or Al metallic nanopore can provide the controllable translocation speed down using the plasmonic optical force. Initially, the SiO2 nanopore on the pyramidal pit cavity were fabricated using conventional microfabrication techniques. Then, the metallic thin film was sputter-deposited, followed by surface modification of the nanometer thick membrane using FESEM, TEM and EPMA. The huge electron intensity of FESEM with ~microsecond scan speed can provide the rapid solid phase surface transformation. However, the moderate electron beam intensity from the normal TEM without high speed scanning can only provide the liquid phase surface modification. After metal deposition, the 100 nm diameter aperture using FIB beam drilling was obtained in order to obtain the uniform nano-aperture. Then, the nanometer size aperture was reduced down to ~50 nm using electron beam surface modification using high speed scanning FESEM. The followed EPMA electron beam exposure without high speed scanning presents the reduction of the nanosize aperture down to 10 nm. During these processes, the widening or the shrinking of the nanometer pore was observed depending upon the electron beam intensity. Finally, using 200 keV TEM, the diameter of the nanopore was successively down from 10 nm down to 1.5 nm.

  • In this paper, we present a novel digital multifocusing approach using adaptive region-based histogram equalization for the multiple color-filter aperture (MCA) system with insufficient amount of incoming light. From the image acquired by the MCA system, we can estimate the depth information of objects at different distances by measuring the amount of misalignment among the RGB color planes. The estimated depth information is used to obtain multifocused images together with the process of the region-of-interests (ROIs) classification, registration, and fusion. However, the MCA system results in the low-exposure problem because of the limited size of the apertures. For overcoming this problem, we propose adaptive region-based histogram equalization. Based on the experimental results, the proposed algorithm is proved to be able to obtain in-focused images under the low light level environment.

  • In this paper. we propose an efficient method for implementing hi-directional pixel-based focusing(BiPBF) based on a sparse array imaging technique. The proposed method can improve spatial resolution and frame rate of ultrasound imaging with reduced hardware complexity by synthesizing transmit apertures with a small number of sparsely distributed subapertures. As the distance between adjacent subapertures increases, however. the image resolution tends to decrease due to the elevation of grating lobes. Such grating lobes can be eliminated in conventional synthetic aperture imaging techniques. On the contrary, grating lobes arisen from employing sparse synthetic transmit apertures can not be eliminated, which has been shown analytically in this paper. We also propose the condition and method for suppressing the grating lobes below -40dB, which is generally required in practical imaging. by placing the transmit focal depth at a near depth and properly selecting the subaperture distance in Proportion to receive aperture size. The results of both the Phantom and in vivo experiments show that the proposed method implements two-wav dynamic focusing using a smaller number of subapertures, resulting in reduced system complexity and increased frame rate.

  • I have developed a processor for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) raw data compression using range-doppler algorithm for educational purpose. The program realized a generic SAR focusing algorithm so that it can deal with any SAR system if the specification is known. It can run efficiently on a low-cost computer by selecting minimum size out of a whole dataset, and can produce intermediate images during the process. Especially, the program is designed for educational purpose in such a way that Doppler centroid and azimuth ambiguity can be determined graphically by the user. By distributing the source code and the algorithm to public, I intend to maximize the educational effect on understanding and utilizing SAR data. This paper introduces the principle of SAR focusing algorithm embedded on the eSAR processor and shows an example of data processing using ERS-1 raw data.

  • A Ka-band 6-W high power microwave monolithic integrated circuit amplifier for use in a very small aperture terminal system requiring high linearity is designed and fabricated using commercial 0.15-${\mu}m$ GaAs pHEMT technology. This three-stage amplifier, with a chip size of 22.1 $mm^2$ can achieve a saturated output power of 6 W with a 21% power-added efficiency and 15-dB small signal gain over a frequency range of 28.5 GHz to 30.5 GHz. To obtain high linearity, the amplifier employs a class-A bias and demonstrates an output third-order intercept point of greater than 43.5 dBm over the above-mentioned frequency range.

  • Two cases of traumatic diaphragmatic hernia are reported, who were operated on in this department during the last 12 months` period. The first case, a 34 year old male, fell from 6 meters` height while he was working on electric pole. He sustained rib fractures, left 8th, 9th and 10th rib, left diaphragmatic rupture and ileal perforation. In the pleural cavity, there were stomach, omentum, left lobe of liver, transverse colon and ileum, which were reduced into the peritoneal cavity, and the diaphragmatic aperture was closed through anterolateral thoracotomy. After closure of the thoracic incision, median abdominal incision was made and closed the ileal perforation by primary suture. The second case was a 19 year old tyre repairman, who felt abrupt severe abdominal pain during lifting a heavy lyre. A barium study revealed a marked displacement of the stomach into the left pleural cavity. Immediately, thoracotomy was performed and closed the ruptured diaphragm after reduction of the herniated stomach, omentum, transverse colon, spleen and small intestine. The size of the diaphragmatic aperture were measured 17cm. in first case and 12cm. in the other respectively. Both cases discharged after uneventful recovery.

  • Optical monitoring using the chromatic aberration of focusing optics is applied to auto-focus control in laser welding. The spectral transmittance of thermal radiation from a weld pool through an aperture depends on the wavelength of the spectral band and on the distance of the weld pool from the focusing optics. Its dependence has been used to monitor the focus shift in laser welding by measuring the spectral band signals filtered by the aperture. The difference between pulsed and continuous laser welding is analyzed. Furthermore, the dependence of the focus shift monitoring on the weld pool size variation is optimized to monitor the focus shift independently from the laser power change at the weld pool. The performance of the auto-focus control with chromatic filtering is presented for pulsed laser welding.

  • A structure and a design of device were developed to fabricate large-scale active matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display with good color purity and high aperture ratio. With these technologies, we developed a full color 14.1 inch WXGA AMOLED display. For the integration of OLED on an active matrix a-Si TFT backplane, an efficient top emission OLED is essential since the TFT circuitry covers a large position of the pixel aperture. These technologies will enable up the OLED applications to larger size displays such as desktop monitors and TVs.

  • A procedure for antenna parameter selections is proposed that considers the relationships between synthetic aperture radar performance and the antenna parameters of a parabola-type reflector antenna with a central flat dish. The effects of a central dish designed for weight reduction on the antenna beam pattern are also quantitatively analyzed using commercially available software based on the physical optics algorithm. The results of the theoretical analysis and simulation predict that a larger size of the central dish results in an increase in the sidelobe level, which is the reason for the increase in two important ambiguities, such as range ambiguity ratio (RAR) and azimuth ambiguity ratio (AAR). The dependence of RAR and AAR on Pulse repetition frequency is also analyzed and discussed.
