Enhanced bandwidths of the GPS microstrip patch antennas applied by a Wilkinson power divider and a quadrature hybrid were compared. The square patch was designed, and fed by the two port probes for the circuit application. The Wilkinson power divider and quadrature hybrid circuit were designed, and applied to the patch antenna. The designed patch and two circuits were implemented on the FR4 board, and combined together. The measurement of the bandwidth within a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of 2: 1 were 36.5% (1,200~1,775 MHz) in the case of the Wilkinson power divider and 29.84% (1,230~1,700 MHz) in the case of the quadrature hybrid. Axial ratios (AR) in 3dB were 17.14% bandwidth (1,360~1,630 MHz) and 15.87% bandwidth (1,400~1,650 MHz), respectively. The application of the Wilkinson power divider is wider than that of the quadrature hybrid. The peak gains in the anechoic chamber at the GPS center frequency were measured as 2.84 dBi and 2.75 dBi, respectively.
The phased array antenna has the ability to perform adaptive sampling by directing the radar beam without inertia in any direction. The adaptive sampling capability of the phased array antenna allows each sampling time interval to be varied for each target, depending on the acceleration of each target at any time. In this paper we design a three-dimensional adaptive tracking algorithm for the phased array radar system with a given set of measurement parameters. The tracking algorithm avoids taking unnecessarily frequent samples, while keeping the angular prediction error within a fraction of antenna beamwidth so that the probability of detection will not be degraded during a track update illuminations. In our algorithm, the target model and the sampling rate are selected depending on the target range and the target maneuver status which is determined by a maneuver detector. A detailed simulation is conducted to test the validity of our tracking algorithm for encounter geometries under various conditions of maneuver.

This paper presents the characteristics of broadband double-cone antennas. The antenna is used to measure electromagnetic fields(2~5 GHz) radiated from a primary or a secondary electrode of a pole-transformer when partial discharge occurs inside the pole-transformer. The theoretical analysis is conducted using commercial software based on a finite difference time domain(FDTD) method. The parameters are a radius, and a height of the broadband double-cone antennas, and the number of posts on a ground plane. This paper examines influences of structural parameters of the broadband double-cone antennas on return loss. The results show that a condition for an optimum structure of broadband double-cone antennas exists. It also shows that the broadband double-cone antennas have radiation patterns similar to those of a dipole antenna. Therefore the broadband double-cone antennas are appropriate for the measurement of radiated electromagnetic fields from the pole-transformer. To verify the theoretical analysis, computed results are compared to experimental results.
In this paper, a design method for a high-sensitivity microstrip patch sensor antenna (MPSA) loaded with a bent-slot was studied for the permittivity measurement. The bent-slot similar to a single-ring complementary split ring resonator was added along a radiating edge of the patch in order to enhance the sensitivity to the permittivity. The sensitivity of the proposed MPSA was compared with that of a conventional rectangular MPSA and a thin rectangular-slotted MPSA. Three MPSAs were designed and fabricated on a 0.76-mm-thick RF-35 substrate so that the input reflection coefficient would resonate at 2.5 GHz in the absence of the superstrate under test. When five different Taconic substrates with a relative permittivity ranging from 2.17 to 10.2 were used as the superstrate under test, experiment results show that the sensitivity of the proposed MPSA, which is measured by the shift in the resonant frequency of the input reflection coefficient, is 4.1 to 6.1 times higher than that of the conventional MPSA.

In this paper, we fabricated transmitting and receiving antennas to realize the low cost radar using two receiving antennas and investigated their characteristics. The antennas are designed with MPA(Microstrip Patch Array) structure for the beam concentration in horizon direction and low cost and used Taylor array pattern synthesis to suppress sidelobes. As a results of measurement in the 24GHz ISM band(24.0-24.25GHz), our using band, antenna gains are placed between 15.2 dBi and 16.26 dBi which are satisfied with the design specification of higher than 15dBi and lower than 17dBi. The sidelobes are -13.15 dBc, -13.1 dBc and -12.8 dBc at the operating frequencies of 24.0 GHz, 24.125 GHz and 24.25 GHz repectively, which are satisfied with the specification of lower than -10 dBc.

In high-speed wireless communications, an analysis of the propagation characteristics is an important process. Information on the propagation characteristics suitable for each environment significantly helps in the design of mobile communications. This paper presents the analysis results of radio propagation characteristics in outdoor environments for a new mobile wireless system at 781 MHz. To avoid the interference of Korean DTV broadcasting, we measure the channel characteristics in urban, suburban, and rural areas on Jeju Island, Republic of Korea, using a channel sounder and $4{\times}4$ antenna. The path loss (PL) measurement results differ from those of existing propagation models by more than 10 dB. To analyze the frequency characteristics for Korean propagation environments, we derive various propagation characteristic parameters: PL, delay spread, angular spread, and K-factor. Finally, we verify the validity of the measurement results by comparing them with the actual measurement results and 3D ray-tracing simulation results.

As the number of base stations for mobile communication services rapidly grows with the development of mobile communications and the increase of radio-use devices, there are hazardous concerns raised on the possible health effects of EMF(Electro-magnetic fields) radiated from base station antennas. Since 2007, KCA(Korea Communications Agency) has been measuring the EMF on base station defined by Radio Act. This paper was studied to provide objective and accurate information that relieved anxiety of people by analyzing the measurement results on EMF strength. Also, we suggest to effectiveness and improvement of EMF measurement institution by analyzing measurement results since it was introduced on June 2007.

Recently, the HFPD measurement testing is widely used in partial discharge measurement of HV machines because HFPD measurement testing receives less influence of external noise and has a merit of good sensitivity. Also HFPD testing is able to offer the judgement standard of degradation level of HV machine and can detect discharge signals in live-line. Therefore it is very useful method compare to previous conventional PD testing method and effective diagnosis method in power transformer that requires live-line diagnosis. But partial discharges have very complex characteristics of discharge pattern so it is required continuous research to development of precise analysis method. In recent, the study of partial discharge is carrying out discover of initial defect of power equipment through condition diagnosis and system development of degradation diagnosis using HFPD(High Frequency Partial Discharge) detection. In this study, simulated transformer is manufactured and HFPD occurred from transformer is measured with broad band antenna in real time, the degradation grade of transformer is analyzed through produced patterns in simulated transformer according to applied voltages.

The inclination attitude of the Ground-Based Radar can be measured by the accelerometer due to its static operation environment, but the measurement error is generated from the angular acceleration of the accelerometer, which is created in mechanical oscillation by the dynamic environment, like the wind, gust, rotating antenna, etc. In this paper, the technique of reducing the measurement error of the attitude by the dynamic attitude is proposed and the result of the simulation and the analysis of tracking error by the attitude error are presented.
