Design of the IPI-IFA using the Inverted PI Feeder (역 파이 급전 방식을 적용한 IPI-IFA)

  • Design of IPI(Inverted PI) feeding internal antenna for the gain improvement of mobile phone was proposed. IPI feeding structure affects on both low radiation resistance of antenna and increase current for the internal antenna such as IFA(Inverted F Antenna). By these facts, antenna fed by IPI can get the gain improvement with increasing radiation efficiency. For the verification, we applied IPI feeding structure to conventional quad band IFA. Measurement shows that IPI-IFA has 0.3~2.0[dB] higher gain than conventional IFA on GSM/DCS/USPCS/WCDMA band.

  • The tracking performance of the big tracking antenna system using Radio Frequency is very important for the tracking and position measuring for the flight vehicle, but the precise measuring of the tracking performance is not easy, especially for the big antenna system such as ground telemetry antenna or tracking radar in space application because it's characteristics could be different in accordance with the antenna direction. In this paper, the error factors impacting on the tracking performance (pointing accuracy and tracking accuracy) and the ranges of each factor are reviewed, and the simple and efficient method to measure the tracking performance is introduced which using low earth orbit as the signal source. Finally, the measurement results for the telemetry ground antenna in NARO Space Center are reviewed.

Design of Plano-Convex Lens Antenna Fed by Microstrip Patch Considering Integration with Microwave Planar Circuits

  • In this paper, the plano-convex lens antenna fed by a single patch is studied for a microwave remote-traffic monitoring sensor with constraints of small size and low cost. Measurement of an AUT (Antenna Under Test) involves the considerations of a triangular groove for matched layer and metallic shielding effects. A formulation for extracting the parameters of a piano-convex lens antenna, based on geometrical optics, is introduced using Fermat`s principle of the equi-phased ray condition. Teflon ($\varepsilon_{{\gamma}}$/ =2.0) is chosen as a material of a plano-convex lens antenna for adjustment of aberrations on the lens surfaces automatically. A fabricated plano-convex lens shows 3-dB beamwidth of 7.5 degree and side-lobe level of -29 dB with an aperture distribution of the parabolic-squared taper on pedestal. This lens supports easier integration with the planar microwave circuits by using a microstrip single patch as a primary feeder of the lens antenna.feeder of the lens antenna.

  • This paper designed a very low profle, light and broadband internal antenna for operating at PCS, IMT-2000 and Wibro bands. The proposed antenna can be reduced the size by using shorting-pin and a broadband characteristic is obtained by using slit. It is optimized by using the CST Microwave Studio commercial software based on the FIA(Finite Integration Algorithm) and PBA(Perfect Boundary Approximation) and then fabricated and measured. As a result of measurement, the bandwidth(VSWR<2.5) is $40.8\;\%$ at $1.934\;\cal{GHz}$ and the size of antenna is 3$30\;\cal{mm}\times10\;\cal{mm}\times0.2\;\cal{mm}$.

  • Laser distance measuring systems are used in many fields with high precision. However, when measuring the reflector such as the mirror and the black color, a laser distance measuring system does not guarantee the measurement accuracy. In order to measure the shape of the cargo, this study proposes the radar distance measurement system. The radar distance measuring system is composed of a distance measuring unit with a 24 GHz antenna module, a signal processing and control board and the 1-axis tilting unit. And, this study developed a monitoring program to monitor the measured data. In order to evaluate performance of the developed system, the distance measurement tests are carried out. The distance error was about 6-15 cm. However, considering the size of the cargo, the precision is not a problem. And, cargo shape was measured by using the distance information measured by the 1-axis tilting unit. It could get a 2 dimension shape profile for the cargo stacked in a yard.

Analysis for Measured Results in EMF Strength Exposure Level under Base Station Environment for Mobile Communication (이동 통신용 기지국 환경에서 전자파 강도 노출량 측정 결과 분석)

  • This paper measured EMF strength of the duty measurement radio station(77 station) and the non-duty measurement radio station(41 station) of mobile communication base station in Jeonbuk region. As the result of measurement, it generally reveals that EMF is highly low level compare to the human protection guideline. And It is regarded as level that the national people who live close to the mobile communication base station don't have to worry about electromagnetic wave. This paper provides comparative analyses categorized by the duty measurement station and the non-duty measurement station. The results reveals that the average value and the maximum value of the non-duty measurement station preferably was higher than all the duty measurement station. It is thought that the EMF exposure strength of the national people is caused by approach of station antenna rather than antenna power. Consequently this paper suggests that standard of the antenna power(exceed 30 W), standard of antenna height(exceed 10 m) specified by Radio Regulation Act enforcement ordinance, legal basis for mobile communication base station have to be changed.

Characteristic for the Near Field of Rectangle Loop Antenna using Optical Electric-Field Sensor (광전계 센서를 이용한 구형 Loop Antenna의 근접전계 특성)

  • In this paper, in order to investigate the near field distribution characteristic of the Loop Antenna we simulated and measured the near field of a Loop Antenna using optical electric-field sensor in a large Chamber(8.5 m x 7 m x 7 m). The simulation methods were used MoM for frequency domain and FDTD for time domain. From the analysis results, it can be seen that the simulation and measurement results are very aggregated, and the optical electric-field sensor is a certificate of validity. In frequency domain, in case of the optical sensor with vertical polarization is located above the near vertical line of the Loop Antenna the signal strength level is more 15 ㏈ than with horizontal polarization. But in case of the optical sensor located above horizontal line of the Loop Antenna, signal strength level is not different. And, in the time domain, although input signal is positive, in the case of the optical sensor with vertical polarization is located above horizontal line of the Loop Antenna, it can be seen that the received pulse shape is negative.

PANEL ADJUSTMENT OF THE TRAO 13.7-m ANTENNA USING PHOTOGRAMMETRY (사진측량법을 이용한 대덕전파천문대 13.7미터 안테나의 경면 조정)

  • We improved the antenna efficiency of the Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory (TRAO) 13.7-m radio telescope by adjusting the antenna panels based on digital photogrammetric measurements. First of all, we measured the surface accuracy of the main reflector of this antenna at three elevation angles of $35^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $60^{\circ}$. We performed a total of four sets of the photogrammetric measurements and panel adjustments. When adjusting the panels, we positioned the antenna to the zenith and applied the measured data sets at the elevation of $45^{\circ}$. We found that the antenna surface accuracy has been improved by a factor of ~ 3 times after the final adjustment in comparison with the value before the adjustments. And we also found that the antenna surface accuracy tended to be slightly better at the elevation angles of $35^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ than that at the elevation angle of $45^{\circ}$. After the final panel adjustment, the aperture and beam efficiencies of the telescope have has been improved from 35% to 44%, and from 41% to 51%, respectively.

Linear Tapered Slot Rectifying Antenna for Portable UHF-Band RFID System (휴대용 UHF대역 RFID 시스템을 위한 선형 테이퍼드 슬롯 정류 안테나)

  • In this paper, we propose a linear tapered slot rectifying antenna for a portable UHF-band RFID system. Since the proposed rectifying antenna does not use a dielectric substrate, the planar antenna is implemented with a thin metal thickness. The rectifier circuit converts input RF power into output DC voltage using a voltage doubler circuit based on two anti-parallel schottky diodes. The rectifying antenna is integrated by the voltage doubler circuit into a linear tapered slot antenna. For conjugate impedance matching of the rectifying circuit and the linear tapered slot antenna, the source-pull method was utilized by adjusting the angle of the tapered slot and the length of the antenna feed line. The proposed antenna prototype has been verified with the electrical and radiation characteristics through RF-DC conversion and far-field radiation test in open space measurement environment. Finally, the proposed antenna is realized to 0.23-wavelength (75 mm) and 0.18-wavelength (60 mm) at 915 MHz center frequency.

CPW-fed UWB Monopole Paper Antenna (CPW 급전 UWB 모노폴 종이 안테나)

  • This paper presents a novel CPW-fed UWB monopole paper antenna made by paper and copper tape. Through the simulation, the optimized antenna design parameters were obtained, and an antenna having an omni-directional radiation pattern and a gain of 2.2 dBi or more in the UWB frequency band of 3.1-10.6 GHz was designed. The antenna was manufactured using general A4 paper and copper tape, and the measurement result satisfies the return loss of -10dB or less in the UWB frequency band and confirm that the return loss characteristic was maintained even when the antenna plane was bent by 3 mm in the longitudinal direction. The proposed antenna is a wearable device that can provide services in the UWB band, and can be manufactured inexpensively by printing it with a conductive print on paper. So it can be used as a wearable antenna for UWB communication in various application fields such as logistics and disposable terminals.
