  • While the PSK mode of the DTLS is the most efficient in terms of the performance, it is not easy to pre-distribute and manage the symmetric key pairs as the number of sensor devices increases. On the other hand, both the RPK and certificate modes offer a convenient key management tool, but they do not guarantee a good computational performance. In this paper, the end-to-end security protocol suitable for the constrained devices is proposed, based on both the ECQV certificate and the PSK mode. Namely, the initial DTLS handshake is performed using the ECQV certificate, and the subsequent DTLS handshakes with the other CoAP servers in the same group are performed using the PSK mode for the purpose of reducing the overall computational load. Furthermore, a fine-grained access control for the CoAP client can be enforced to allow access to the limited number of CoAP servers.

  • The crystal structure of the potassium salt of penicillin V has been studied by the X-ray crystallographic methods. Crystal data are as follows; potassium 3,3-dimethyl-7-oxo-6-phenoxyacetoamido-4-thia-1- azabicyclo[3.2.0]-heptane-2${\alpha}$-carboxylate, $K^+{\cdot}C_{16}H_{18}N_2O_5S^-$, $M_r$= 388.5, triclinic, Pl, a= 9.371 (1), b= 12.497 (2), c= 15.313 (2) ${\AA},\;{\alpha}= 93.74\;(2),\;{\beta}=99.32\;(1),\;{\gamma}=90.17\;(1)^{\circ},\;V=1765.7\;(2)\;{\AA}^3$, Z=4, $D_m=1.461\;gcm^{-1},\;{\lambda}(Cu\;K{\alpha})=1.5418\;{\AA},\;{\mu}=40.1\;cm^{-1}$, F(000)=808, T=296 K. The structure was solved by the heavy atom and difference Fourier methods with intensity data measured on an automated four-circle diffractometer. The structure was refined by the full-matrix least-squares method to a final R= 0.081 for 3563 observed $[I_0{\geq}2{\sigam}(I_0)]$ reflections. The four independent molecules assume different overall conformations with systematically different orientations of the phenyl groups although the penam moieties have the same closed conformations. There are intramolecular hydrogen bonds between the exocyclic amide nitrogen and phenoxy oxygen atoms. The penam moiety is conformationally very restricted although the carboxyl and exocyclic amide groups apparently have certain rotational degrees of freedom but the phenyl group is flexible about the ether bond despite the presence of the intramolecular N-H${\cdots}$O hydrogen bond. There are complicated pseudo symmetric relationships in the crystal lattice. The penam moieties are related by pseudo 20.5 screw axes and the phenyl groups by pseudo centers of symmetry. The potassium ions, related by both pseudo symmetries, form an infinite zigzag planar chain parallel to the b axis. Each potassium ion is coordinated to seven oxygen atoms in a severely distorted pentagonal bipyramid configuration, forming the infinite hydrophilic channels which in turn form the molecular stacks. Between these stacks, there are only lipophilic interactions involving the phenyl groups.

  • The improved performance and miniaturization of computer and the improvement of wireless communication technology have enabled the emergence of many high quality services. Among them multicast services are receiving much attention and their usage is increasing due to the increase of Internet multimedia services such as video conference, multimedia stream, internet TV, etc. Security plays an important role in mobile multicast services. In this paper, we proposed a secure multicast protocol for a hierarchical micro-mobility environment. The proposed secure multicast protocol provides security services such as authentication, access control, confidentiality and integrity using mechanisms including symmetric/asymmetric key crypto-algorithms and capabilities. To provide forward/backward secrecy and scalability, we used sub-group keys based on the hierarchical micro-mobility environment. With this security services, it is possible to guard against all kinds of security attacks performed by illegal mobile nodes. Attacks executed by internal nodes can be thwarted except those attacks which delete packet or cause network resources to be wasted. We used simulator to measure the performance of proposed protocol. As a result, the simulation showed that effect of these security mechanisms on the multicast protocol was not too high.

  • This paper introduces the nonlinear Stream Function Wave Theory for design waves efficiently to compute the wave energy and energy transport quantities and to analyze the effects of nonlinearities on them. The Stream Function Wave Theory was developed by Dean for case of the observed waves with assymmetric wave profiles and of the design waves with symmetric theoretical wave profiles. Dalrymple later improved the computational procedure by adding two Lagrangian constraints so that more efficient convergence of the iterative numerical method to a specified wave height and to a zero mean free surface displacement resulted. And the Stream Function coefficients are computed numerically by the improved Marquardt algorithm developed for this study. As the result of this study the effects of nonlinearities on the wave quantities of the average potential energy density, the average kinetic energy density result in overestimation by linear wave theory compared to the Stream Function Wave Theory and increase monotonically with decreasing $L^*/L_O$ and with increasing $H/H_B$. The effects of nonlinearities on the group velocity and the wavelength quantities result in underestimation by linear wave theory and increase monotonically with increasing $H/H_B$. Finally the effect of nonlinearity on the average total energy flux results in overestimation for shallow water waves and underestimation for deep water waves by linear wave theory.

  • Limitation of optical phase conjugation for implementation of wideband and long-haul WDM transmission system is symmetric distribution of optical power and local dispersion with respect to optical phase conjugator (OPC). This limitation forces OPC to place at midway of total transmission length. This paper shows that the limitation of optical phase conjugation is overcame by applying optimal net residual dispersion (NRD) into transmission links based in inline dispersion management (DM). Optimal NRD related with OPC position is decided by combination of precompensation and postcompensation. It is confirmed that optimal NRD depends on launch power of WDM channels and system performance criterion as well as OPC position. That is, in case of 1 dB eye opening penaty (EOP) as a performance criterion for WDM channels with 0 dBm launch power, it is confirmed that OPC is allowed to place at anywhere of 1000 km by applying best NRD related with exact OPC position into transmission links. And, it is confirmed that, under 3 dB EOP criterioin for WDM channels with 3 dBm launch power, OPC is allowed to place at 350~700 km by applying NRD between 100 ps/nm and 200 ps/nm into transmission links, though that NRD value is not best combination of precompensation and postcompensation.

  • To investigate the relationship between strain distribution and tensile properties of brittle material, five types of tensile coupon of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) modified the tab portion in order to have a strain distribution including S0, SD1, SD2, SV1, SV2 were tested. The ultimate stress and strain of SD2 and SV2 which was intended to have larger strain distribution were smaller than those of SD1 and SV1, that was more clearly shown in the test results of the symmetric coupons (SV series) than the asymmetric coupons (SD series). In addition, the ultimate stress and strain of most coupons with strain distribution in this study were decreased when compared to the control group with uniform strain. These results were analyzed in various ways through 1) the average of the strain values directly measured by the strain gages, 2) the converted strain calculated by dividing the total deformation by the effective length, and 3) the ultimate effective strain derived from both the elastic modulus and the ultimate load. The values measured by strain gage indicates response of the local region precisely, but it does not represent the response from whole section. However, the converted strain and effective strain can supplement disadvantage of gage because they represent the average response of whole section. In particular, the effective strain can provide rupture strain conservatively, which can be utilized in practice, when the value obtained by strain gage was not effective due to gage damage or abnormal gage readings near ultimate load. This value provides a value that can be used even when partial rupture has occurred and is reasonably useful for specimens with strain distribution.

  • The purpose of this study is to review the taxonomic position of Taxus cuspidata var. latifolia endemic to Ulleung Island with related taxa T. cuspidata var. cuspidata, T. caespitosa, and T. cuspidata var. nana based on external morphological characters and DNA barcoding study. T. cuspidata var. latifolia was similar to T. cuspidata var. cuspidata in the arbor, straight trunk, and symmetric arrangement of leaf. But the unique differences between T. cuspidata var. latifolia and T. cuspidata var. cuspidata were leaf size and the exposure of seed from aril. Additionally, sequences of four chloroplast DNA regions including matK, rbcL, trnL intron and trnL-trnF spacer regions were analyzed. Korean Taxus species and their related taxon T. cuspidata var. nana were strongly supported as a monophyletic group in neighbor-joining analysis. Taxus cuspidata var. latifolia showed 100% sequence identity to related taxa. Korean endemic T. caespitosa is also distinguishable from related taxa by prostrate stems and spiral arrangement of leaf. The examinations of external morphology and DNA barcoding study suggest that the taxonomic position of T. cuspidata var. latifolia should be maintained as a variety of T. cuspidata.

  • Proton conductive hybrid nanocomposite polymer electrolyte membranes comprising polystyrene-5-poly (hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PS-b-PHEMA), sulfosuccinic acid (SA) and phosphotungstic acid (PWA) were prepared by varying PWA concentrations. The PHEMA block was thermally crosslinked by SA via the esterification reaction between -OH of PHEMA and -COOH of SA. Upon the incorporation of PWA into the diblock copolymer, the symmetric stretching bands of the $SO_3^-$ group at $1187cm^{-1}$ shifted to a lower wavenumber at $1158cm^{-1}$, demonstrating that the PWA particles strongly interact with the sulfonic acid groups of SA. When the concentration of PWA was increased to 30wt%, the proton conductivity of the composite membrane at room temperature increased from 0.045 to 0.062 S/cm, presumably due to the intrinsic conductivity of the PWA particles and the enhanced acidity of the sulfonic acid in the membranes. The membrane containing 30wt% of PWA exhibited a proton conductivity of 0.126 S/cm at $100^{\circ}C$. Thermal stability of the composite membranes was also enhanced by introducing PWA nanoparticles.

  • Background: Since the Nuss procedure for the correction of pectus excavatum is in its early stage, there have been problems that need to be solved. We examined complications in a single-institute experience of the Nuss technique in order to develop possible solutions to prevent them. Material and Method: 335 consecutive patients, who underwent the modified Nuss procedure between August 1999 and October 2002, were studied retrospectively. Median age was 8 years (range 1 to 46). 264 patients (78.8%) were in pediatric group (age$\leq$15) and 71 patients (21.2%) were in adult group (age> 15). 193 patients (57.6%) had symmetric and 142 patients (42.4%) had asymmetric pectus configurations. Risk factors predicting postoperative complications were analyzed using multi-variate logistic regression. Result: Postoperative complication rates were 18.9% (61/335) in total patients. Frequent complications were pneumothorax 24 (7.5%), bar displacement 11 (3.4%), and wound seroma 10 (3.1%) in order. Early complications (within a month, 49 cases, 15.2%) were pneumothorax (n=23, 6.9%), wound seroma (n=12, 3.6%), and bar displacement (n=8, 2.4%). Late complications (after a month, 12 cases, 3.7%) were pericarditis and pericardial effusion (n=5, 1.5%), bar displacement (n=4, 1.2%), and hemothorax (n=3, 0.9%). Techniques were modified to prevent complications especially in bar shaping and fixation, which led to decrease complication rate in later experience (Operation Date 1: 15/51 (29.4%) vs Operation Date 2: 34/284 (12.0%), p=0.004). Grand Canyon type (eccentric long canal type) showed higher complication rate than other types (GC type: 12/30(40%) vs Others: 37/305 (12.1%), p<0.001). Major risk factors are severity of pectus (OR=2.88, p=0.038), Grand Canyon type (OR=2.82, p=0.044), and Op. Date 1 (OR=4.05, p=0.001). Conclusion: Major complications were related to severe eccentric type of pectus configuration (Grand Canyon type) and lack of surgeon's experience (Op. Date 1). Com-plication rate was reduced with accumulation of experience and advancement of surgical techniques. The Nuss procedure can be performed at a low risk of complications with our current technique.

  • Purpose: In the present study, a difference in tear volume between the cornea and the rigid gas permeable (RGP) lens relative to corneal shape and corneal astigmatism was investigated by the alignment fitting status of spherical and aspherical RGP lenses. Methods: Spherical and aspherical RGP lenses were fitted with alignment in 77 subjects (135 eyes) who were in their 20~30s. Tear volume stained with fluorescein was qualitatively analyzed by dividing cornea into center, mid-peripheral and peripheral parts. Results: For the spherical RGP lens fitting, tear volume differences were found in each part in all corneal types. For the aspherical RGP lens fitting, tear volume differences were in each corneal part in symmetric bow tie- and asymmetric bow tie-type corneas. However, the tear was equally distributed from the center to the peripheral part in round- and oval-type corneas. In the group with corneal astigmatism lower than 1.25 D, tear volume between center and peripheral parts, and mid-peripheral and peripheral parts, was different when a spherical RGP lens was fitted. However, tear volume in each part was not different in the group with corneal astigmatism over 1.50 D. Moreover, the tear volumes of the central and mid-peripheral parts were proportionally increased with increasing corneal astigmatism in both spherical and aspherical RGP lenses. Furthermore, aspherical RGP lenses showed greater increments than spherical RGP lenses. Conclusions: The results revealed that the difference in tear volume between aspherical RGP lens and cornea was less than spherical RGP lens, and the difference in tear volume varied according to corneal shape and astigmatism. In addition, the method of measuring relative tear volume between RGP lens and cornea that was established in the present study can be used to evaluate tear volume between contact lens and cornea.
