Scale Invariant Auto-context for Object Segmentation and Labeling

  • In complicated environment, context information plays an important role in image segmentation/labeling. The recently proposed auto-context algorithm is one of the effective context-based methods. However, the standard auto-context approach samples the context locations utilizing a fixed radius sequence, which is sensitive to large scale-change of objects. In this paper, we present a scale invariant auto-context (SIAC) algorithm which is an improved version of the auto-context algorithm. In order to achieve scale-invariance, we try to approximate the optimal scale for the image in an iterative way and adopt the corresponding optimal radius sequence for context location sampling, both in training and testing. In each iteration of the proposed SIAC algorithm, we use the current classification map to estimate the image scale, and the corresponding radius sequence is then used for choosing context locations. The algorithm iteratively updates the classification maps, as well as the image scales, until convergence. We demonstrate the SIAC algorithm on several image segmentation/labeling tasks. The results demonstrate improvement over the standard auto-context algorithm when large scale-change of objects exists.

An Advanced RFID Localization Algorithm Based on Region Division and Error Compensation

  • In RSSI-based RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) indoor localization system, the signal path loss model of each sub-region is different from others in the whole localization area due to the influence of the multi-path phenomenon and other environmental factors. Therefore, this paper divides the localization area into many sub-regions and constructs separately the signal path loss model of each sub-region. Then an improved LANDMARC method is proposed. Firstly, the deployment principle of RFID readers and tags is presented for constructing localization sub-region. Secondly, the virtual reference tags are introduced to create a virtual signal strength space with RFID readers and real reference tags in every sub-region. Lastly, k nearest neighbor (KNN) algorithm is used to locate the target object and an error compensating algorithm is proposed for correcting localization result. The results in real application show that the new method enhances the positioning accuracy to 18.2% and reduces the time cost to 30% of the original LANDMARC method without additional tags and readers.

  • With the recent development of the ubiquitous computing technology, there are increasing interest and research in technologies such as sensors and RFID related to information recognition and location positioning in various ubiquitous fields. Especially, RTLS (Real-Time Locating Services) dealing with spatio-temporal data is emerging as a promising technology. For these reasons, the ISO/IEC published RTLS standard specification for compatibility and interoperability in RTLS. Therefore, in this paper, we designed and implemented Spatio-temporal Query Processing Systems for efficiently managing and searching the incoming Spatio-temporal data stream of moving objects. Spatio-temporal Query Processing Systems's spatio-temporal middleware maintains interoperability among heterogeneous devices and guarantees data integrity in query processing through real time processing of unceasing spatio-temporal data streams and two way synchronization of spatio-temporal DBMSs. Web Server uses the SOAP(Simple Object Access Protocol) message between client and server for interoperability and translates client's SOAP message into CQL(Continuous Query Language) of the spatio-temporal middleware.

A cache placement algorithm based on comprehensive utility in big data multi-access edge computing

  • The recent rapid growth of mobile network traffic places multi-access edge computing in an important position to reduce network load and improve network capacity and service quality. Contrasting with traditional mobile cloud computing, multi-access edge computing includes a base station cooperative cache layer and user cooperative cache layer. Selecting the most appropriate cache content according to actual needs and determining the most appropriate location to optimize the cache performance have emerged as serious issues in multi-access edge computing that must be solved urgently. For this reason, a cache placement algorithm based on comprehensive utility in big data multi-access edge computing (CPBCU) is proposed in this work. Firstly, the cache value generated by cache placement is calculated using the cache capacity, data popularity, and node replacement rate. Secondly, the cache placement problem is then modeled according to the cache value, data object acquisition, and replacement cost. The cache placement model is then transformed into a combinatorial optimization problem and the cache objects are placed on the appropriate data nodes using tabu search algorithm. Finally, to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm, a multi-access edge computing experimental environment is built. Experimental results show that CPBCU provides a significant improvement in cache service rate, data response time, and replacement number compared with other cache placement algorithms.

An adaptive time-delay recurrent neural network for temporal learning and prediction (시계열패턴의 학습과 예측을 위한 적응 시간지연 회귀 신경회로망)

  • This paper presents an Adaptive Time-Delay Recurrent Neural Network (ATRN) for learning and recognition of temporal correlations of temporal patterns. The ATRN employs adaptive time-delays and recurrent connections, which are inspired from neurobiology. In the ATRN, the adaptive time-delays make the ATRN choose the optimal values of time-delays for the temporal location of the important information in the input parrerns, and the recurrent connections enable the network to encode and integrate temporal information of sequences which have arbitrary interval time and arbitrary length of temporal context. The ATRN described in this paper, ATNN proposed by Lin, and TDNN introduced by Waibel were simulated and applied to the chaotic time series preditcion of Mackey-Glass delay-differential equation. The simulation results show that the normalized mean square error (NMSE) of ATRN is 0.0026, while the NMSE values of ATNN and TDNN are 0.014, 0.0117, respectively, and in temporal learning, employing recurrent links in the network is more effective than putting multiple time-delays into the neurons. The best performance is attained bythe ATRN. This ATRN will be sell applicable for temporally continuous domains, such as speech recognition, moving object recognition, motor control, and time-series prediction.

The Expressional Characteristics and Meanings of Indeterminacy in Fashion Illustrations (패션 일러스트레이션에 표현된 불확정성의 특성과 의미)

  • Indeterminacy maintains that the simultaneous measurement of object location and speed is theoretically impossible. This study present indeterminacy as a theoretic tool to interpret a variety of expression characteristics that seem disorderly in recent fashion illustrations; in addition, it analyzes the characteristics and meaning of indeterminacy as expressed in fashion illustrations. This study reviews concepts and related theories on indeterminacy to examine characteristics of indeterminacy expressed in the arts and fashion; subsequently, indeterminacy characteristics found in fashion illustrations are analyzed. In expressing the fashion figure, indeterminacy finds expression in a distorted figure transformations that include a hybridized combination of heterogeneous forms that dismantle and reconstruct the human body. The hybridized body of combined machines, animals and plants indicates an indeterminate body endlessly transforming itself. Indeterminate space expression finds expression in space expression by projection with the overlapping and juxtaposition of irrelevant constituent elements as well as a space expression from the insertion of unexpected images. An unclarified inconclusive open space provides space with fluidity, causes space expansion and conveys inconclusive meaning. Indeterminate expressions found in fashion illustrations reveal the ambiguity and complexity of a post-modern society with polysemous aesthetic values and the expanded visual concepts of fashion illustrations.

Mt. Yokmang Landscape Planning in Busan New Port (부산 신항만 욕망산 경관계획)

  • Mt. Yokmang landscape design awarded first in [North container terminal site furtherance construction in Busan new port], design competition sponsoring in the Korea Container Terminal Authority in 2005. Design guideline was to propose the symbol of new port and to establish landscape plan in consideration of view and geological location. Because landscape plan required establishment of restoration plan for cutting slope, Mt. Yokmang became the major object. The purpose of planning are as follows. The first purpose is to minimize existent natural environment damage, and the second, to connect with ambit and create new image. The third is to provide place of rest and interchange for local resident. Reflecting stratum structure and landscape characteristics, cutting slope consisted of [utilization slope], [presentation slope], [landscape slope], and [ecological slope]. Vegetation design applied ecological restoration method through restoration of stratum, and eve environment-friendly afforestation, planned program that can connect area with existing ecosystem. In process that decides form of the cutting slope, analyze view structure and visual exposure in various access routes, sensitivity etc. was accomplished. Also, symbolic tower(Ocean Polaris) that presents in architecture and landscaping features, night landscape planning could gain synergy effect by keeping consistence with landscape and ecological planning. Passing through final design and construction process, I expect that the Mt. Yokmang will be a new landmark in Busan new port.

Concurrent Mapping and Localization using Range Sonar in Small AUV, SNUUVI

  • Increased usage of AUVs has led to the development of alternative navigational methods that use the acoustic beacons and dead reckoning. This paper describes a concurrent mapping and localization (CML) scheme that uses range sonars mounted on SNUUV­I, which is a small test AUV developed by Seoul National University. The CML is one of such alternative navigation methods for measuring the environment that the vehicle is passing through. In addition, it is intended to provide relative position of AUV by processing the data from sonar measurements. A technique for CML algorithm which uses several ranging sonars is presented. This technique utilizes an extended Kalman filter to estimate the location of the AUV. In order for the algorithm to work efficiently, the nearest neighbor standard filter is introduced as the algorithm of data association in the CML for associating the stored targets the sonar returns at each time step. The proposed CML algorithm is tested by simulations under various conditions. Experiments in a towing tank for one dimensional navigation are conducted and the results are presented. The results of the simulation and experiment show that the proposed CML algorithm is capable of estimating the position of the vehicle and the object and demonstrates that the algorithm will perform well in the real environment.

  • Building energy simulation has become a useful tool for predicting cooling, heating and air-conditioning loads for facilities. It is important to provide building energy performances feed back to the mechanical and electrical system operator and engineer for energy conservation and maintenance of building. From this research, we set up the typical weather data of location, basic description of building, geometric modelling data and the specification of Installed primary HVAC system for establishing the simulation model about energy consuming that take place in multipurpose building complex. The simulation tool of building energy - EnergyPlus (DOE and BLAST based simulation S/W), it has been used and accomplished calculations and analyses for evaluating the effect of the system types and operating condition of central HVAC plant on the building energy consumption. In this paper, we offer comparison and simultaneous results those involve electricity consumption pattern and amount between actual operation versus EnergyPlus simulation to the object building during summer season.

A Study on the Estimation of Multi-Object Social Distancing Using Stereo Vision and AlphaPose (Stereo Vision과 AlphaPose를 이용한 다중 객체 거리 추정 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, We are carrying out a policy of physical distancing of at least 1m from each other to prevent the spreading of COVID-19 disease in public places. In this paper, we propose a method for measuring distances between people in real time and an automation system that recognizes objects that are within 1 meter of each other from stereo images acquired by drones or CCTVs according to the estimated distance. A problem with existing methods used to estimate distances between multiple objects is that they do not obtain three-dimensional information of objects using only one CCTV. his is because three-dimensional information is necessary to measure distances between people when they are right next to each other or overlap in two dimensional image. Furthermore, they use only the Bounding Box information to obtain the exact coordinates of human existence. Therefore, in this paper, to obtain the exact two-dimensional coordinate value in which a person exists, we extract a person's key point to detect the location, convert it to a three-dimensional coordinate value using Stereo Vision and Camera Calibration, and estimate the Euclidean distance between people. As a result of performing an experiment for estimating the accuracy of 3D coordinates and the distance between objects (persons), the average error within 0.098m was shown in the estimation of the distance between multiple people within 1m.
