In recent years, high-temperature superconductor (HTS) Quadruple Triplets are being developed for heavy ion accelerators, because the HTS magnets are suitable to withstand radiation and high heat loads in the hot cell of accelerators. Generally, an iron yoke, which costs a mass of material, was employed to enhance the magnetic field when a quadrupole magnet was designed. The type of the magnet is called iron-dominated magnet, because the total magnetic field was mainly induced by the iron. However, in the HTS superconductor iron-dominated magnets, the coil-induced field also can have a certain proportion. Therefore, the air-core HTS quadrupole magnets can be considered instead of the iron-core HTS quadrupole magnet to be employed to save the iron material. This study presents the design of an air-core HTS quadruple triplet which consists three by air-core HTS quadruple magnet and compare the design result with that of an iron-core HTS quadruple triplet. First, the characteristics of an air-core HTS quadrupole magnet were analyzed to select the magnet system for the magnetic field uniformity impairment. Then, the field uniformity was improved(< 0.1%) exactly using evolution strategy (ES) method for each iron-core HTS quadrupole magnet and the air-core HTS quadruple triplet was established. Finally, the designed air-core triplet was compared with the iron-core HTS quadruple triplet, and the results of beam trajectories were presented with both the HTS quadruple triplet systems to show that the air-core triplet can be employed instead of the iron-core HTS triplet. The design of the air-core quadruple triplet was suggested for a heavy ion accelerator.
When draining takes place through an axially located drain port in a cylindrical tank without any prevent, a vortex with an air core occurs. In this study, semi spherical concave and convex meshes with different size inner hole are used to find the air core can suppress. The study is carried out with different values of inner hole of mesh and different install direction of semi spherical mesh using PIV and measured velocity distribution. By providing a mesh, the air core can be prevented, even if the ratio of inner hole of mesh and diameter of cylinder is around 0.66. The experimental results show that a convex mesh type is more effective to suppress the air core generation than a concave mesh type.
High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) synchronous generators can be designed with either an air-core type or iron-core type. The air-core type has higher efficiency under rated rotating speed and load than the iron-core type because of the iron losses which may produce much heat. However, the total length of HTS wire in the air-core type is longer than the iron-core type because the generated magnetic flux density of the air-core type is low. This paper deals with designs of 10 MW air-core and iron-core HTS wind power generators for wind turbines. Fully air-core, partially iron-core, and fully iron-core HTS generators are designed, and various stator winding methods in the three HTS generators are also considered, such as short-pitch concentrated winding, full-pitch concentrated winding, short-pitch distributed winding, and full-pitch distributed winding. These HTS generators are analyzed using a 3D finite elements method program. The analysis results of the HTS generators are discussed in detail, and the results will be effectively utilized for large-scale wind power generation systems.
The transformer used in an inverter type arc welding machine is designed to use high frequency in order to reduce its size and cost. Also, selecting core materials that fit frequency is important because core loss increases in a high frequency band. An inrush current can occur in the primary coil of transformer during arc welding and this inrush current can cause IGBT, the switching element, to burn out. The transformer design was carried out in $A_P$ method and amorphous core was used to reduce the size of transformer. In addition, sheet coil was used for primary winding and secondary winding coil considering the skin effect. This paper designed the transformer core with an air gap to prevent IGBT burnout due to the inrush current during welding and proposed the optimum air gap length.

An experimental investigation was performed to study on the generation of air bubble and air core with swirling flow in a horizontal cicular tube. To determine some characteristics of the flow, 2D PIV technique is employed for velocity measurement in water. The experimental rig is manufactured from an acryl tube. The test tube diameter of 80mm, and a length of 3000mm. The used algorithm is the gray leve cross-correlation method(Kimura et al. 1986). An Ar-ion laser is used and the light from the laser(500mW) passes through a probe to make two-dimensional light sheet. In order to make coded images of the tracer particles on one frame, an AOM(Acoustic-Optical Modulator) is used. The maximum axial velocities showed near the test tube wall at y/D =0.1 and y/D =0.9 along the test tube. The higher Reynolds number increase, the lower axial velocities are showed in the center of the test tube. The air bubbles are generated from Re =10,000 and developed into air core from the recirculating water pump rpm equal 30Hz. The pressure and temperature are measured across the test tube at X/D=3.33.

In this paper, the fault current limiting and the hysteresys characteristics of a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) using magnetic coupling of two coils on the iron core with an air-gap were analyzed. The introduction of the air-gap in the SFCL with magnetically coupled two coils can suppress the saturation of the iron-core and, on the other hand, make the limiting impedance of the SFCL decreased, which results from the increase of the exciting current. To analyze the effect of the aig-gap on the fault current limiting characteristics of the SFCL, the hysteresys curves of the iron core comprising the SFCL were derived from the short-circuit experiment and the variation in the voltage-current trace of the SFCL during the fault period was analyzed. Through the comparison with the current limiting characteristics of the SFCL without air-gap, the air-gap could be confirmed to contribute to the suppression of the iron core's saturation through the increase of the SFCL's burden from the short-circuit current.

An air-gapped current transformer(CT) has been used to reduce a remanent flux in the core, particularly in the case of auto-reclosure. However, it causes larger transient, ratio and phase errors than the iron-cored CT because of the small magnetizing inductance. This paper proposes a compensation algorithm for the secondary current of the air-gapped CT during the fault conditions including auto-reclosure as well as in the steady-state. The core flux is calculated from the measured secondary current of the CT and inserted into the hysteresis loop to estimate the exciting current. Finally, the correct current is estimated by adding the measured secondary current to the estimated exciting current. Various test results clearly indicate that the proposed compensating algorithm can improve the accuracy of the air-gapped CT significantly and reduce the required core cross-section of the air-gapped CT significantly.
In this paper, friction of air-jet textured yams is investigated. Using a friction measuring apparatus fabricated inhouse, dynamic friction forces of the yams under yarn-to-metal (YM) and yam-to-yam (YY) rubbing modes are measured. The influence of processing variables of air-jet texturing viz., overfeed, air pressure, dry/wet texturing and normal/core-and-effect texturing on dynamic friction is analysed. The results indicate that friction force increases with increasing rubbing speeds and yam input tension. YM dynamic friction decreases initially and then starts to increase at higher overfeeds. YY dynamic friction increases with increasing overfeed. YM dynamic friction decreases with an increase in air pressure while an opposite trend is observed for YY friction. Wet textured yams have higher friction than dry textured yams. Core wetted coreand-effect textured yams have higher friction than normal textured yams.
Single-mode propagation conditions of X-ray waveguides are investigated by numerical calculations in order to understand the importance of waveguide design parameters, such as core thickness and the optical constants of waveguide materials, on the transmission and coherence properties of the waveguide. The simulation code for mode analyzing is developed based on a numerical solution of the parabolic wave equation. The initial boundary value problem is solved numerically using a finite-difference scheme based on the Crank-Nicolson scheme. The E-field intensities in a core layer are calculated at an X-ray energy of 8.0 keV for air and beryllium(Be) core waveguides with different cladding layers such as Pt, Au, W, Ni and Si to determine the dependence on waveguide materials. The highest E-field intensity radiated at the exit of the waveguide is obtained from the Pt cladded beryllium core with a thickness of 20 nm. However, the intensity from the air core waveguide with Pt cladding reaches 64% of the Be-Pt waveguide. The dependence on the core thickness, which is the major parameter used to generate a single mode in the waveguide, is investigated for the air-Pt, and Be-Pt waveguides at an X-ray energy of 8.0 keV. The mode profiles at the exit are shown for the single mode at a thickness of up to 20 nm for the air-Pt and the Be-Pt waveguides.

For a general office building having a center core, the distinction between the outer wall and the compartment should be clear, and it should be set at a stack effect pressure distribution acting on the respective compartment by a relative area ratio of the respective leak compartment. In the case of office buildings with an independent core for core there, some blocks of shares and exterior pressure distribution in buildings and office buildings typically have different characteristics. Therefore, if the stack effect reduction measures, designed on the basis of a general office building are applied to a stand-alone building, the core of the building should reflect the unique pressure distribution characteristics. This study, performed as part of the object corresponding to the flat plan of the building in the diversification trend, analyzed the stack effect that actually occurs in an office building having the properties intended for stand-core construction, and thus on the basis of and tested by the method of using a conventional stack effect reduction measures. Reviewed in the study, an independent cored office building that does not have the air flow path through the specific space with respect to the center core type office building has a feature, and the variation in characteristics of the pressure distribution inside the building according to this air flow path stack effect was reduced by a variety of measures that should be applied to determine the application.
